2020 Recruiting

  • Crap. Still can’t delete things. Enjoy!

  • If there is no new post on that thread it will disappear unless you actively search it out. Personally I only go to unread topics. I don’t believe editing the OP will bring it back up.

  • @bshark. Answering before the question. - FYI it still doesn’t show up in the unread topics. Your thread, your prerogative; just a heads up if you want traffic. If it’s just for yourself it’s perfect.

  • @dylans Not meaning to toot my own horn but we could pin it if it is felt that it is important enough.

I will be editing the OP with new information as I hear about it.

Ty Berry will play his SR year at Sunrise: https://twitter.com/Ty_Berry23/status/1151191415281635336

A bit of 1 + 1 here with Dajuan Harris who was going to be at Sunrise this upcoming year.

  • @BShark I bet his newton coach is not happy. Unless he was a pain? I doubt it. He does hate, really hate, KU!

    Um the coach?

  • Newton coach.

  • Good for Berry, not so good for KSHAA basketball.

@BShark Mason 76, Graham 36. Seems to be the sweet spot.

    Both had major KU bumps.

Yeah, but the major KU bumps this go around got the guys into the 90-150 range. Pretty unimpressive. Diamonds in the rough are tough to find and guys in this range rarely make an impact in their first 2-3 years.

Just no winning for Bill lol. Can’t recruit OADs or program guys…

Have to be high impact freshman who are okay with sitting the bench. All 5 of them.

  • Yep I pinned it @BShark @dylans

  • Most kids transfer to sunrise Academy so they can get better in get more chances to get scholarships from coaches

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I bet that his Newton coach was not happy at all. But great situation for Ty he gets to play with the #5 kid in the country in the 2020 class,. Also heard that Tom Izzo was a steady presence at Tys games this past weekend in Atlanta, along with Michigan University.

New offer. He was terrific this weekend. https://247sports.com/Player/Kerwin-Walton-4605721

Sure seems to be a lot more offering to middle on the top 100 and then even guys like this - - and like McBride - - & Braun last year maybe a change of plan/attack in recruiting - -maybe looking at more 4 year quality guys for room to improve - - -

It could be with this new rule coming into effect before to longer , maybe Coach is changing approach/attack. Could be he is looking to start making more of an concerted effort on 4 year types of guys that has room to develop. - Good solid quality players - - yet 4 year players and possibly a little less on the Elite that we know with more then not probably will jump straight to the NBA. - So Coach getting a little head start - I dunno just a thought. - He starts recruiting these types of players now - -leaves less chance of getting left out from the elite and then having to scramble for other players to fill holes on the roster - - I really don’t have a problem with good solid quality 3-4 year players with a OAD sprinkled in if we can still land them - -might work out okay - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Yes sir

  • @alwaysajayhawk We won’t sign Berry if Harris commits - as simple as that. (edit) I didn’t see @FarmerJayhawk 's post before sending this.

  • @jayballer73 That’s kind of what I have said and am thinking, and - but we’ll always nab a couple of high profile recruits - I am all in!

I’ll take that. I say quit concentrating on PGs in the 2020 class, focus elsewhere.

  • No way. We still need an impact guard if not two.

  • @BShark We will need a big guard and a 2/3 swingman, not a point guard.

  • We still need 2 guards, possibly a wing, and 2 bigs.

  • Can’t see signing an impact wing at all. Enaruna, Wilson, Garret and to a lesser extent Braun will likely all still be on the roster.

I still can. If Kyree Walker wants to come, you take him. So we’ll see.

That’s what I more or less just said, don’t see us signing another PG, though.

This is how I see it. Would have to be a miracle like Scottie Barnes to take a wing.

SO McBride and RS FR/SO Harris as the only point options is an NIT recipe but Self is so good he would make the NCAAT somehow. Honestly in that spot maybe Garrett starts at pg, really don’t wanna see it. Adding Caleb Love would be a game changer.

Look, not trying to argue with you man, but recruits are not stupid. We’d have McBride, Harris and Garrett - a pretty crowded PG rotation. Didn’t say I didn’t want us to sign another point guard, only said that we wouldn’t. And while thinking that I believe that we should focus mostly on other positions. PS - I disagree about a McBride/Harris tandem at PG being NIT. Would Caleb Love who cannot pass be such an improvement?

  • Love, Nix and Thompson are all immediate starters period. Not saying we get them but they are all started level and Bill will try. Love is a game changer imo, would be thrilled to land him we need size. Garrett is an emergency pg.

  • @BShark Oh, we’ll get Thompson who is bigtime but he is not a point guard. Only trying to be realistic. Nix and Love are not - but if they do I’ll celebrate with a bonfire/rib grill/keg party and invite all of you - going to sign with us. Personally, I’m fine with our signing of Harris rather than waiting for Nix or Love.

  • I think Harris and McBride are federal good year three and just shredding year 4. There will be a development curve with them as they adjust to the speed and physicality of this level.

    @Marco UNC leads for Thompson

  • @BShark Then we need to go full court press and hire his dad. UNC who? Hey, if we can get Love I would be ecstatic, just don’t think we will. Will Love sign thinking that for sure McBride and Harris will need a two-year learning curve? Not to mention Garrett, that’s all I’m saying.

  • I think Walker goes to college. When/where still TBD.

We’re going to need bodies too. Could lose 6 guys from this year’s roster. I really like Harris but he won’t be a KU caliber starter for 2-3 years. I’m not sure what we have in McBride yet. He’s never been a distributor really. Need 2 more guards to bridge us to upperclassmen Harris and McBride. I could also see one of Wilson/Enaruna as our starting 4 next year, so that opens up a spot at the wing for a different guy.

  • @FarmerJayhawk dot silvio doke mitch ochai moss being the possible 6? Agree it still needs to be a big class with immediate talent.

  • @BShark yessir. Possibly whole starting 5 plus Mitch.

  • I think that Enaruna and Wilson will from time to time play both forward positions. Try to sign Thompson, Todd and Garcia for sure, and whatever others.

  • Mentioned this in an update in the target thread but Cam’ron Fletcher cut KU. What a brief time it was, literally just offered him.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Sign him and it might bode well for us being able to get Garcia.

Scary stuff right there. Reminds me to live in the moment and enjoy next year. The following one could be rough as a $2 handy if no top shelf talent signs.

  • Idk if Self is playing the recruiting game super safe or if the FBI/NCAA witch hunt has been killing us. Still pissed they have just decided not to even look at Dook after we knew what Zion wanted and Wendell Carters name was several lists of guys that got money. Makes me not want to watch my favorite sport. It seems pretty logical that if are giving guys ranked in the 60s and higher stuff, that the Dooks, UNCs and Kentucky’s of the world must be paying for the multiple top 25 guys they get every year.

  • That was a quick recruitment for Harris. KU did a good job here.

I think that we could skate with those two running PG.

It’s those two running PG with the rest of that roster that is terrifying…

Bill absolutely needs to go find someone who’s a walking bucket or else the 2020-2021 season looks like it’s going to be rough.

We would need some rapid development from Tristan and Wilson. I think we really need to add a big like Todd or Garcia. Both in a dream world.

Absolutely need size. No disagreement there. Need a new project C too, imo.

  • My dream class is still Nix, Thompson, Todd, Sissoko, and Jacob Love. I think all those guards can actually play together since both Nix and Thompson are around 6’5. So your lineup would be Nix, Thompson, Garrett, Todd, McCormack. Main rotation guys are Love, Harris, Wilson, and Enaruna. HAVE SOME

  • Offered 2021 Kendall Brown. Have a real good shot here from the looks of it.

  • Brown also described Kansas as his “dream school” Friday and spoke about what he likes about Kansas.

“Pretty much everything,” said Brown. “We went down there for a tournament in second grade and I just loved the place and everything about it.”

“He played there as a second grader and ever since, KU was where he wanted to go,” Brown’s father, Courtney told ZAGSBLOG. In terms of what he’s looking for in a school, Brown said he’s prioritizing “the coaches and style of play”.

    Close here Bill.

Any inside info? How good is the guy?

  • Hadn’t really heard of him or seen him play yet @Marco He’s on my radar now. He’s going down to Sunrise so he will have a lot of exposure going forward. He has to have some kind of game to be a top 50 recruit as a JR. Feelings seem mixed on him. Rivals has him as a top 20 guy but 247 bumped him down to 45 in their last update 8 days ago. I don’t think Rivals has updated yet so he may drop there too. One bad tournament will do that and with the new schedule there aren’t nearly as many chances for coaches to evaluate. I trust Bill when it comes to evals for the most part.

Could he commit today I couldn’t tell you. Keep in mind we have Tre White committed at his position and he is likely to reclass and move up into the same class as Brown.

  • This kid can flat out play!
