New 2019 Recruiting

  • @FarmerJayhawk Who handles the ball for them next season then? I think Jones is gone. Boogie doesn’t seem like anymore a PG than RJ.

I think Jones comes back but I’m not that sure.

  • FarmerJayhawk said:

Eh, this is just how it works at this level of talent. Either play the game or have a team full of Mitch Lightfoot’s (Lightfeet?)

    A Lightfleet.

  • Duke getting involved with Cassius Stanley. I think KU has been out of this one for awhile. I think they’re banking on Grimes coming back.

  • @FarmerJayhawk - Grimes returning is a better deal, IMHO.

    Good.

  • @Gorilla72

Agree. Stanley doesn’t move the needle with the guys we have already signed. He’s an electric athlete but his all around games wouldn’t upgrade the team next season. If Grimes does return that’s huge if he continues on this improved play he’s shown the last two games

    One word says it all!

  • Interesting that Duke is not trying to move in on guys they have not recruited at all so late in the game.

    nod, nod

He’d be a bench guy and I don’t think he is going anywhere to come off the bench.

Agbaji being a total baller changed the need to recruit a wing imo. Dotson, Grimes, Garrett and Agbaji are all minute eaters assuming all are back next year.

I assume you meant now instead of the first not.

That said they are Duke and they need more guys for next year so it makes a ton of sense. Just make a power play and bid enough.

Yes, I meant now. Talking about Watford and Stanley.

Well Buddy - -Got to say - -I’m beginning to lean more in that direction myself on Grimes - -I now am also thinking he just very well could come back next year. - Total opposite of what I was thinking. - -I think possibly he just maybe has hit the top of his Freshman difficulties and now progressing down the other side - -He is showing signs – having said that , I just think he might very well come back learn more things have himself a solid year , work on his skills and THEN declare after next Season. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

And I’m beginning to think they all will be. - A lot of People ar starting to worry about Dotson. – I just don’t think my boy is going anywhere THIS YEAR - -Now next year - -I wouldn’t be promising anything.

Even though Devon has had a really good year - -solid - there is things he could still improve on - -could always work on his outside J still some yet - -I dunno but just overall little things. - -Would be a very solid class for us next year if all these guys returned which I’m thinking more and more they will. - -If somehow - Doke WOULD come back - -we would be really Salty - with McCormack’ - -development and gaining experience and a Senior Mitch and our Newcomer’s

Ok now have a quick question - - been wondering for some time - - showing stupidity - -please tell me what does IMO stand for - -lol - - sorry. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73

Dotson isn’t even in the Top 10 of his position (for the draft). People are worried for no reason.

  • @jayballer73 in my opinion

  • Very brief KU target Damion Baugh popped for Memphis.

  • BeddieKU23 said:

Yeah I don’t think KU got serious with him. I also don’t think he was ever playable with Garrett because they are so similar.

  • If the staff expects Dotson, Grimes, Garrett, Agbaji, McBride and Braun to be on the roster next year I can’t see adding another guard worth much.

  • @BShark

Which makes the recent Stanley chatter make sense. Stanley was an option when everyone thought Grimes was actually good

  • I went and saw Adam Miller play in a fantastic game last night. Top 2 ranked teams in Illinois 3A. He scored 6 in the first half and 22 in the 2nd in a sweet 16 loss. He got many of those from the FT line. He forced a lot of threes, turned it over too much, so despite 28 points I wasn’t entirely impressed except it was against a team loaded with DI prospects themselves. Illinois folks are really clamoring to get him of course which I understand

The one in a black on the left with his parents He is from Little Elm Texas and the one on right he is from Las Vegas Nevada

  • @Hawk8086 RJ Hamilton and also Cottrell (a couple recruits) I do believe.

  • A lot of buzz out there that Shaka is leaving UT. Will Baker and/or Kai Jones come on down!

Jones wanted KU but that one will be interesting theres arrangements that have been made in his situation to stay where hes going

  • There is only ONE small itsy bitsy teeny weeny problem facing us with all these kids we talking about plucking away when these programs crash and burn. - - That being is we ourselves might be in the same boat as these other programs. - -These kids are not going to want to transfer from one school where it’s happening and jumping right to ANOTHER school facing the same possibilities - the possibility of probation and being barred from the Tourney for a bit - -it all sounds good but I’m sure not getting all hyped about these other kids possibly coming from these other schools until we get cleared from any penalities. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Just passing this along. The Hampton’s reported to Matt Scott that their official visit to KU was “First Class”.

From start to finish of the visit everything was first class," said Mr. Hampton. “Getting to see the day-to-day workings was impressive. At the end of the day you gotta respect tradition. We could see ourselves as a Jayhawk family. We will see!!!”

Nice tease there at the end. Unless Nike & Duke can’t work out a deal can’t see him ending here but at least we got an official visit. We’ll see how it plays out

  • Lot’s of CB’s rolling in for Terrance Shannon to end up at Texas Tech. Terrance, you might want to wait until you know your coach is staying bud. Shannon has had one of the more fruitful recruitment’s. LOL

  • He just committed.

  • Woodrow said:

    He just committed.

And if Beard leaves won’t be his last commitment. He’s made a few along the way

  • Woodrow said:

    Third time’s the charm!

  • So it’s looking like now it’s becoming a fore gone conclusion that we have yet lost another recruit huh> - Looking more and More is now going to Duke -everything pointing that way for sure - - love how these guys can come in at the last minute and just snatch these guys - This FBI thing just eating us up -Jerry Meyer predicted Hurt to Duke this morning - -SOB - -ROCK CHALK ALL AY LONG BABY

  • Ehh the only recruits we have are Braun and McBride. The rest aren’t ours yet. KU casts a very wide recruiting net, so you will see more misses than hits just by numbers. Don’t fret until commited guys start jumping ship.

  • @dylans

The recruit @jayballer73 is talking about has been the #1 target of Self for a few years now. Coached him as well. Losing him to Duke or any other program is certainly not what you want to see happen

  • @BeddieKU23 I’ve never been able to figure out the decision making process of a teenager, they do all kinds of stupid stuff. Ayton was a 100% KU lean, but then we learn he was given more money by Arizona (apparently 15k by Adidias isn’t enough when 100k is on the table). The checkbook is closed - I wouldn’t look for any 5 star recruits to sign. Add in the chance of a post season ban and loss of scholarships due to being caught by the FBI and I wouldn’t let my kid go to KU until I knew he could play in the NCAA tournament (esp if he’s a OAD).

So meh. IF KU signs a big time player that’s unexpected news, not potientally losing a recruit that hasn’t committed to anyone yet.

  • So question is - -should we even be interested in the Spring signing period at all? - Are we going to sign somebody just to say we signed somebody? - we got a body?

who here feels like we got more then a decent shot to land anybody that is somebody? - -If you do who? - -Who do you feel that we have a really decent shot at landing - -I mean more then decent? - I just can’t get myself all hyped for spring signing.

The one I thought we had a lot better then average shot at now looks like he too is gone ( Hurt ) - -this FBI thing - -NCAA Thing has just killed us -trying times ahead. - I think in the next couple of years we are really gonna have our patience tested. - -Actually I’m not as concerned about next year as the year after

I think with Dotson - - - Garett - - -and I think Grimes back and I do think he will be back - - -McCormack - - Lightfoot - - Obaji - -w got a pretty good nucleus - -then add Braun and McBride - nothing lights out but we will be there -although we do need a really quality big - and just not sure were gonna get that.

But the following yr pretty nervous by that - -by then we will know all about any Scholi reductions - -any post season bans - and by then could very well be no Grimes - - no Dotson as that would be their Jr years - no Lightfoot due to graduating – possible no Ochai -time will tell

  • The Spring will be ridiculously busy for us I think. So, yes, we should be interested in it.

I have no idea of the fallout from the Adidas trial and what lies ahead. We have only the two prospects signed because of it. Still, 5 star recruits are showing up on campus like Matthew Hurt, Precious Achiuwa and RJ Hampton so do teenagers see it the same way as us fans?

KU has starting spots to sell this spring. If the hammer is coming down why are recruits still coming. A lot seems to be unknown on that part, what exact punishments will KU get, if any. I quit worrying about it until they announce it’s happening.

  • Quotes from Jerry Meyer that describe our unenviable landscape … maybe a Lucas/Traylor-like spring.

    https://247sports.com/Article/Kansas-Basketball-recruiting-FBI-case--129841509/

  • Could be a Traylor/Lucas Spring. Could be a Xavier Henry-like Spring of poaching.

    Someone will fill those scholarships.

Evan Daniels talks about a few guys from the 2020 class that could reclassify to 2019. Obviously R.J. Hampton is the big name but he also mentioned N’Faly Dante and said KU is one of four schools recruiting him. He list KU, Ketucky, LSU, and Oregon. That kind of surprised me, because I hadn’t really seen him and KU mentioned together for awhile. Just assumed he was a Nike kid.

  • @Woodrow

Dante probably was LSU bound before the Will Wade stuff.

  • @HighEliteMajor

What do you take of this line in there

There’s a chance Bill Self is going to be subpoenaed and testifying,” Meyer said. “Who knows where this stuff could go? They even said in court that Self was involved with a money transaction with Billy Preston.

Testifying in which case? Adidas trial already happened.

Involved with money transaction? Jerry sounds a bit off base here. Self wouldn’t be coaching if scenario 2 was true.

  • Why would Self be subpoenaed and testify in a case that has nothing to do with KU?? That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
