Miles opening spring press conference

  • And were ofF and running - - looking forward actually for a change for football. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I feel like you can already sense the culture change that’s going on with in the program. I feel like the city of Lawrence has done great in welcoming Les, his family and staff in to town. But I also tell people to be easy with expectations, he’s not gonna win 10 games outta the gate. I think 4 is a realistic goal for this season.

  • When I read articles about Kansas football, I look for information first about the offensive line, second, the defensive line, then defensive backs, QBs, running backs and wide receivers. Of course the only available reports completely skip any mention of the linemen. I can’t believe KU sports reporters have enthroned MacVittie as the front-runner at QB. I sure hope for great improvement at QB, but I’m tired of the automatic assumption that the newest guy is going to be our salvation. I’m resigned to small forward steps with the football program, starting with Coach Miles and his assistants. I’m excited for the season to begin. Thanks, Jayballer for your post.

  • @stoptheflop I like you believe it or not - - -I’m actually excited for football - looking forward to it - -there is a feel a renewed interest in people I think - - me included - - I might be feeling a little more in the way of thinking that we might make a little bigger step then you might be thinking but hey at least we are both excited right?

Gonna be interesting at the attendance for the opening game - -I have a feeling it is going to be a pretty good sized crowd - -if nothing more for then curiousity , I do believe Les will be bringing butts back into the seats - and if we show improvement and competiviness the fans will come. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @stoptheflop I agree, I wouldnt sleep on Carter Stanley, he had several good moments but the previous staff wouldnt let him play thru his mistakes like they did with Bender. I still think QB wasnt our main issue last year offensively, play calling and Oline hampered us IMO. @jayballer73 I’m as excited as I’ve been since 2009. May even attend my first spring game.

that’s my budy – let’s see what we got - - I’ve been looking at possible dates I can make this year might try 2-3 games

  • I’ve never thought Carter Stanley was starter material. He’s got decent mobility, but his awareness is terrible. He was sacked at a much higher rate than the much less mobile Peyton Bender. Stanley also has a fairly weak arm.

Stanley is a known commodity and hasn’t been overly impressive in his 3 years. MacVittie didn’t have overly impressive stats at JuCo, specifically his completion %, but he his bigger physically, and has a bigger arm than Stanley.

I think Miles Kendrick is the dark horse in the QB race.

  • Since KU and KState took different paths in their coaching changes, it will be interesting to see both squads develop and perform. KU went the safer route by hiring an experienced D1 coach, while KState coach Chris Klieman comes to the Big 12 with very little D1 experience. Coach Klieman was an assistant to Terry Allen at Northern Iowa and even coached at KU for a brief time. How long does everyone think Coach Miles expects to coach at KU? 5 Years? He’s 65, but looks 10 years younger.

  • @stoptheflop It sounds like Miles will be here until he is physically incapable of doing it. I’d say we get at least 5 years out of him, but my real guess would be close to 10.

  • @Kcmatt7 I’m with you on that besides Kansas football coaches only last 5-10 years at best anyway. It’s not as much of an issue as some try to make it.

They definitely don’t last 5-10 years. Mason and Mangino are the only 2 to make it past year 5 in the past 50 years.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Yes, that’s exactly why I said “at best” and “It’s not…an issues”

Kinda figured that was the approach to not seem like such a downer.

  • Boy oh boy, I sure didn’t see much coverage of our spring practices. Maybe the practices are just spaced further apart, so there’s a week between practices? idk.

There was a week between the 2nd and 3rd practices because of KU’s spring break.
