Rock Chalk Tech Game

Nice to see Charlie recover from some boneheaded shots early and learn to be a positive impact when his shot isn’t falling. Dude finished with 6 assists. His shot is as bad as Garrett % wise.
-
He’s on post game

No 2 shots of Charlie’s look alike. His form and his approach to shooting is broken.

Tyshawn was one of those guys that could make a unbelievable play and then turn around and make you wanna pull your hair out a minute later… Love that guy, met him once.
-
Tyshawn is all grown up.

That open lay-up was good tho. I think that his offense has to be try an penetrate, kick it out if defense rotates in and only shoot OPEN threes.
-
@approxinfinity His form is ugly ugly, he just needs to lock himslef in the gym for a few days. Getting consistent form, even if its isn’t great form is huge in shooting.

He had a couple nice drives and kicks. Fast. I do think he will get destroyed if he drives too often. It has to be only when the d isn’t staying home

Believe it or not, my dad (RIP) loved Tyshawn.
-
Good news as well OU lost in Morgantown so we aren’t the lone wolf lol
-
In other news, NC State had only 24 points against Tech whose best player was out with broken toe (Justin Robinson). Same NC State team that took UVA to OT last game. Someone else had their Topeka YMCA moment today.
-
@approxinfinity I bet the line at concessions was out of the building in that one.

Both ranked teams hoping Tech can keep Buzz Williams a while so that won’t be an anomoly
-
I love Chris beard
-
My favorite stat today was 19 assists on 27 made FG’s for KU. KU was passing the ball much better than they have been today and that was a big reason for so many easy shots at the basket and open looks from 3.
-
My second favorite stat today is the Dedric Lawson would’ve beaten NC State by himself today.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 good one! Hurt had to be impressed! Glad Dedric is shooting out there. He has a sweet shot, might move him up, I hope!
-
So is everybody back on the bandwagon now? Keep the faith friends. Keep the faith.
-
@bmensch1 I shoved some of them off
-
@bmensch1 I still need more convincing other than one good game before my expectations get too high.
-
At home sure. Plus the Silvio thing gave some motivation. Nice to see though
-
@kjayhawks I may or may not let you on!
-
@BeddieKU23 I really like the chemistry, sharing the ball, assists, giving up a good shot for a better shot. Dot taking open shots, Dedric too!
-
If u didnt hear post game, Chris beard complimented our program, AFH, Self, and knocked the ncaa. He definitely wasn’t on frans list of coaches he heard from that thought the results were what they thought they’d be. I’d take him after Self over anyone.

@Crimsonorblue22 bring it on young lady!!!

This is the 1st COMPLETE game we have played all year. - -We might of had some 6-7 minutes stretches but not for the entire game , some crazy calls in the 2nd half.
Feel bad for Marcus but with the line up we put on the floor tonight at least opposition couldn’t double nearly as easily , having to guard all 5 spots. - -Oachi is going to be a stud - -and we were redshirting him - Only thing I just hope gets better , when Dave is in seems like he always wants his motor to go 50 in a 20 mph zone - -Oachi’s defense isn’t that far away for Marcus - -which is really good - -maybe this might be the way we need to run - -and bring Marcus off the Bench. - -I think that the NCAA pissed some players off - -looked pretty salty against the # 1 team leading the Nation in defense. They give up 56.8 a game - - hell we almost had that by half time. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Go back and watch the last 30 years of ku basketball…you need more convincing than that…cheer for espn and the blue devils. If you are talking about this year…watch the Tennessee game, michigan st game, iowa state at home, OK game…there is plenty of evidence that this team is fine. If I remember correctly, you were one of the few that counted the Jayhawk out after Washington, AZ state, and a scrapper again Nebraska last year. The fine Jayhawk only made it to a final four. They’re real good. They’ll be fine.
-
Yeah and it pains me to say but without Garrett things just seemed better. It helps when guys make 3s. This offense was built for guys to make perimeter shots. They played solid defense for the most part as well
-
@BeddieKU23 It pains me to say so, but I think you’re right. And I think HEM is right about Garrett. There was a flow to the offense we hadn’t seen all year. Garrett in the game means it’s 4 against 5 on offense. Our offense just eviscerated the number 1 defense in the country. Will Bill begin to see the light? I’m not sure about that.
-
@KUSTEVE The passing seemed a lot better today, plus guys made shots. Now due to the passing many of the looks were fairly open but still…

This is the key right here regardless of Garrett’s status. KU mostly made good passes today that had intent and kept moving it until someone had an open look. This is what this team needs right now and what they need to do in Manhattan to win there.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Even Fran has lamented in a couple games that our passes to open guys lately have not been accurate, so the guy getting the pass isn’t open by the time he gets to the ball. Today, they seemed to be quick and accurate so shots could be released quickly. That is the key to Vick.
-
@bmensch1 wrong, I was one of few that said if we get to FF people wouldnt care about the home loses and as usual I was right. I’m not saying this team isn’t going to win again as some insinuated before today’s game. But I’m not willing to just say they will now cruise to B12 title either. Let’s see if they can put together a few good games or weeks is all I’m saying and I dont believe its foolish to ask that at this point. People overreact good and bad too much. I’m still standing by my expectations of just making the tournament. Now that could change if see STEADY improvement not one game my friend.
-
Two things helped a lot today…shots went in from distance and Tech not being much of an offensive team. Not having Garrett on the floor clearly helped KU on offense with ball movement and spacing. I will be curious to see how this better offensive lineup looks when they play K-state who has a bit more to offer offensively. Tech has Culver and the Italian and not much else (it seemed). Will the loss of Garrett be felt more on D when facing team with a bit more firepower? Time will tell I guess.
-
@kjayhawks as usual u r right? lets have a statement from your wife! Inquiring minds want to know!
-
Lets see how the media marginalizes this win and continues to magnify our loses. OH, and then listen to the self-righteous analysts begin to throw stones at Silvios ruling and then praise other programs for their program integrity. We all know whos dirty in college bball . Oh, and HOW IN THE HELL IS AN ADIDAS REP A DAMN BOOSTER? Can someone tell me how that was thrown into the investigation to justify their ruling? How? That screams conspiracy against KU. They had nothing and was unable to connect KU. They had to REDEFINE the relationship with ADIDAS. So, they have set another unfair precedence in college bball. This means all shoe reps are now considered BOOSTERS. They can’t name ADIDAS reps as BOOSTERS to punish Silvio and KU. Silvio is ineligible and KU will never play him. This is bogus and everyone knows it. Everyone demanded a ruling and this is their answer. They beat up KU, while other programs get away with murder.
More to come? We better see a wave of Grand Jurys, indictments, and punishments. We better see teams lose wins and vacate seasons. They didn’t apply a more severe punishment because they took into consideration that he didn’t play at all this year. Or, they would have lowered a much more severe punishment.UNC- no sanctions over academic violations? They question KU coaches as possibly knowing? Yet Roy Williams was never even mentioned hardly in that mess. How about their recent issue with Nasir? Or whatever his name. Nothing?
Zona - What happened to Miller and Ayton’s $100,000 phone tap claim?
Duke- Williamson was ALSO named in the Grand Jury as naming a price to pay for play, and nothing was investigated or done. Why? K says it’s all a blip? A blip? This is insane.
Oh, Maryland and Under Armour were also named as paying Silvio to play and KU takes the fall? What screwed up crap is this?
The NCAA doesn’t have to answer to anyone. They have the freakin’ FBI doing their dirty work. This is ALL BULLSHIT.
This is exactly how I feel right now…

Pregame message https://kuhoops.com/ku-basketball-news/225463700/ 🥰 loves this place!
-
Extremely impressed with today’s win.
I thought this would be one of those emotionally drained kinda games. Nope.
This was their most aggressive and athletic game in recent memory.
Nobody was standing around. Everybody was attacking. Loved it.
I hope this team (and lineup) is now settled, and we play with this intensity going forward.
-
As @jaybate-1-0 would say (where are you man? we miss you), Self went with the full on AMP for this game. All in, 100% amp. Full metal jacket AMP with the Devonte pre-game talk.
@Crimsonorblue22 I wish the link worked (no video there where you click through); I really want to hear what Devonte said. Thanks for sharing.
-
I was at a funeral yesterday and unable to watch the game or find a replay. Why did KU stomp Tech? Was the better play the result of good shooting or was the good shooting the reason for better play? If they only played well because they shot well, I’m afraid it’s a blip. If they shot better because the defense was on and the ball movement on offense was crisp then it’s likely repeatable. it’s repeatable.
-
@dylans We did move the ball well…but we also made shots. 9 3pters in the first half…can’t do that all the time. But we looked crisp on offense…expecially in the first half. Pretty good in the 2nd as well. Played with a lot of energy…there’s no place like home, as they say.
-
I think it was the perfect storm type of game. Silvio out, Garrett out, losing 2 in a row, being at home. Self said he would find a way to fix the offense. Bottle all those up and the guys had energy and moved the ball, the effort on defense for most of the game was locked in. Making a season high in 3s also helps, everyone in the starting 5 made at least 1. We started off hot continued to lead and had a 20 point advantage at half. From that point they never got closer then 13. Just a great effort. Guys stepped up and the passes and ball movement really caught tech off guard. Do I think its repeatable? At home maybe. Garrett will be out a few games and Tuesday will be a great test to see how amped the guys are still off this Silvio high
-
Our O was different too. We started Dedric out at the top of the key, no dble teams! Opened it up and he made 3 3’s? Dribbled in. Opened lanes, they played off of us, Vick was open and nobody playing off Marcus in lane
-
Oh, and dg’s pregame speech told them to shoot if open!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Revolutionary concept!!

Your right Ol buddy - -& the others are right too.- - Don’t get me wrong - -I love Marcus, he busts his ass for the team - -great defender - -lock down , he has proven that for sure , steals and such - -good rebounder for his size - BUT
Sad to say pretty much unless he can drive the ball OTHER then his like 3 game stretch - -poor Marcus is a liability for us on the offensive end -I know I was trying to ride with my boy Marcus and others told me - just took this ol goat some time to let it sink in - -Marcus with everything he has going for us - -is just a liability on the offensive end. - - -With this line up that Coach put on the flor yesterday - -partially/mainly cause he is thinking he had no other choice -these 5 ? - -this is the most fluid I’ve seen ALL YEAR.
nice flow , smooth for I’d say 90-95% of the game with the other 5 % when Charlie was in an gunning up ugly 3’s -my GOD he needs to stop that his 3 point shooting is past horrible- -he needs to be their t handle the ball - - assist.- - Sorry strayed for a minute. - -We need this 5 on the floor Tuesday for sure Ochai for sure needs lots of minutes for the rest of the season.
I’m not gonna lie , & I think if we are honest and truthful we would all agree as much as it might hurt - - Tuesday is going to be a war - K-State is good mostly for their D - -the thing is though they have got a nice flow going on the offensive end right now == were gonna have to tighten the Jock straps and be ready- - play with the same intensity as yesterday. One other side note real quick also - -for the Drew haters - - umm don’t look now but they are playing some pretty dam good ball themselves and that’s AFTER they have lost their main man - - -NO give me’s anymore in this league. - -you have to bring it - -night in - -night out. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Fair. I still expect Bill Self to eat his lunch!
-
What I would give to have seen yesterday’s team play that way last week. What I saw in Austin was atrocious. I guess every team will, at some point, have a really bad game. But for us to do so in both Austin and at WVU was worrisome. I thought a “players only meeting” was needed but glad to see Devonte’ step up.
Hope the team realizes how much more fun it is to have a first half like they did yesterday.Me with Dr. Randall (in green jacket) and his brother that I worked with and who took me to Final Four last year.
-
Really good point. I liked putting lawson at the top of the key. We got away from that without Doke but it worked for KU making it impossible for tech to double him
-
@RockChalkinTexas we’ve missed you! Hope you are doing great!
