Other Games Tonight

  • Barrett, Reddish, and Zion are beating Kentucky 66-50 right now. Wow.

  • Kansas and Duke are the clear cut 2 best teams. Been saying this since the summer.

Marsha is a mongoloid monster. Remember when there was this narrative about Self? I’d like to see this shit get more coverage. Gregg is a dick. The opposite of Prohm who I believe genuinely cares about his players as people.

  • uk sucks

  • That Maui field is loaded this year. Duke going through Auburn and then Gonzaga is going to be 2 great games for Duke. A Duke/Gonzage game is a potential Final Four match up as well.

Duke Gonzaga will be must see tv for anyone that likes basketball.

  • @BShark Get to the Choppa!! I’ve lost a ton of respect for Marshall the past few years between his out burst, drunk wife in the stands and his we’ll play anyone crap but declined to play KSU this season. I’ve said before if I was Self I’d call down there and offer a home an home after he declined KSU so he could go on national TV to call him a chicken. I know Self is too classy for that move but I’d laugh.

  • @BShark Xavier and Auburn should be a good one too in the first round.

  • @Kcmatt7 I wouldn’t say UK is a bubble team at this remember when they beat us by 32 in 2014-15 and we still won our conference and got a 2 seed. They also play in the SEC which drops off a ton after the first 4 teams.

  • 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔 BAYLOR ALERT 🚔

LOST 72-69 to KENPOM #277 Texas Southern.

You know, the Texas Southern KU hung 114 on last year.

  • Kentucky is not right now a very good team. It will not win the SEC and it will have a double digit number of loses. Duke is literally toying with them.

  • This isn’t quite Williams-Pitino levels of obliteration, but it’s in the ball park.

  • Nevada and BYU tied at 34 at the half…

  • Probably Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga 1,2,3 next ranking.

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich

Duke looked better because UK played zero defense. I will guess we make up ~10 games in the all time wins this season.

  • @BShark wow they were 13 at half time, Scott Drew maybe on his way out. No doubt he put them on the map after literally the murderous past they had but he’s done very little with some talented teams.

  • Some positives from the Dook route, anytime UK loses its good, we are closer in all time wins and now we don’t have the worst loss in the Champions Classic anymore. We also we beat a top 10 team lol good night folks and as always Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

  • @kjayhawks I think most of their alumni and fan base expect a rebuilding year here. They lost 8 players, 4 of which were actual rotation players and quite frankly their 4 best players. They took in five transfers, including 2 JUCO guys and a grad transfer. All three of their FR played tonight and none of them are guys you want playing right away. All this loss from an NIT team.

I don’t think Drew will be on the hot seat. Now, if they aren’t better and in tournament contention next year? Then I think it gets interesting.

  • Oh boy…

Goodman: "I think this was the worst loss of your career…

Cal: “Is it? So why would it come from you?”

  • At least we can go under the radar now that ESPN made Duke #1 in the power rankings. Cancel the season folks. Duke’s printing 40-0 shirts

  • @BShark i watched that…love watching the squid explain losses.

  • I think Duke put college basketball on notice last night. That was clinical and damn impressive. Zion is way better than I thought.

Notice how all the top draft candidates showed out in front of scouts. I think that should be taken into consideration here. Barrett, Zion, Grimes, Reddish all had motivation here.

The Duke game is such an outlier to what will happen on average. RJ, Zion & Cam are not scoring 84 between the trio a game. They scored as many points as Kentucky did as a team. We’ve seen their potential but I’d imagine they don’t play up to it more then 3-5 games during the year

  • Duke had 4 turnovers. The freshman trio took 53 shots. I would be very surprised if they played this good again

  • Duke is scary good. May as well face that.

The boredom factor may help. They will probably get bored somewhere along the way and almost lose a game or two. We can hope. There’s always the ebbs and flows…

  • No one had any tape on them yet. Seriously, that matters. They have three incredible players but it’s a large burden for 3 guys to shoulder game in, game out. They are good, will be a 1-2 seed, but I wouldn’t call them unbeatable yet. I wouldn’t call them 2012 UK or 09 UNC yet either.

  • To whom it may interest, portions of shockernet have turned on GREGGGGGG.

  • Keep all that Marshall/WSU news away from @Crimsonorblue22 – her head might explode. I know she’s a big fan. Losing to La. Tech? At home?

    Well stated.

  • @Woodrow I spent a week trying to minimize Zion after he snubbed us, and he showed me how wrong I was, and all the hype was true and real. BShark nailed that one.

  • @KUSTEVE Too bad Adidas went cheap on that one… just kidding.

I guess we couldn’t find an 800k house in Lawrence somewhere…

OMG JAY WRIGHT DOESN’T PLAY FRESHMEN TAKE AWAY HIS STACKS. derpderpderp

I remember people on the old Shiver website saying how Duke wasn’t going to be as good as people thought because RJ, Zion, and Reddish “all played the same position”. I kept telling them that K and Duke would figure it out and be just fine. I think it is going to work out.

  • Duke is going to have a lot of games where they have the three best players on the floor. That’s tough to overcome, particularly in college basketball. The only thing that can hang Duke up is their lack of depth, but even having just two of those three available will be too much for most teams.

Kentucky will be fine. They aren’t going to be at a talent deficit in most any game the rest of the way, other than against KU. That game was in many ways like the game we had with Kentucky the Anthony Davis year. They just overwhelmed us in the early game because we had no answer for all of that talent.

  • More good news from last night…

    "Wichita State takes embarrassing L

Wichita State hasn’t missed an NCAA tournament since 2011, but the Shockers may have their work cut out for them to make it back to an eighth straight Big Dance. Gregg Marshall’s team was out-rebounded by 11 and shot just 37 percent from the field in a 71-58 loss to visiting Louisiana Tech Tuesday night. The loss marked the first time the Shockers have dropped a home opener since 1995.

Marshall has led WSU to at least 25 wins for nine straight seasons, but the makeup of this team is different. Nine of the 13 players on the Shockers roster are playing Division-I basketball for the first time. That inexperience was on full display in the lopsided loss to a Louisiana Tech team that went 16-17 last season."

Hard to root for Duke, but would love to see us gain 1 on UK

After interacting with fans of both, I’m cheering my ass off for UK.

lmao – so how did that work for ya? lol - -I can’t stand Kentucky - - I can’t stand Duke . but ummm didn’t have much to root about last night for sure then did ya?. - -Kentucky fans really couldn’t even blame the officials for this one - -I’m sure they will find something

  • @BShark Texas is bad for sure , yet on the other hand was sure nice to see Andrew Jones on the floor , hope he continues his comeback. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

They are gonna be a problem

BIG PROBLEM. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BShark Let’s see If I’m not mistaken , yet if I’m right THIS will be the last year you will see a team like that - -doesn’t the new rule if it has been approved - this will be the last year for something like Duke has this year - the new rule with the NBA and the College players being able to Go to the NBA - -if it is , you won’t see players like these three play together ever again they will be in the NBA

  • BShark said:

ACC play is a meat grinder, they will pick up some Ls there. Maybe only 2-3 but still. UNC, Virginia etc…

Not so sure , after seeing UNC play last night , I think UNC will be in real trouble against Duke

…and UK had 15 turnovers. Duke with 10 steals to UK 1; a difference of 20 between turnovers and steals and probably worth 20-30 points. No doubt Duke is a very good team but it looked better because UK was exposed a a poor team that cannot shoot or play defense. I will be a long season for UK fans.

  • @StLJhawk

The “perfect storm” at Wichita State is over and now it is back to mediocrity.

They should have blamed their coach.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Marshall is going to be kicking his own ass for not getting out of WSU before now. This season is going to cost him some money.

  • @Woodrow

No doubt. He should have left when he was hot. To his credit he showed loyalty and he is a very good coach so he will get his team playing better, although it might take a few years to get back up considering WSU is now playing in a much stronger conference.

I wouldn’t pick any team to beat Duke right now, but UNC will play them really tough at home.

Also, Wofford is a good team, they will make KU sweat too this year.

  • @Woodrow @JayHawkFanToo On the other hand, WSU is a stable job where he gets 3.2 million a year. He makes more than coaches who have really tough jobs at schools like Illinois, NC State etc… He makes more than JAY freaking Wright and Belein. It’s a pretty sweet gig…

  • @BShark I agree with all of that, but he is young and surely wants a tougher challenge and a chance to win a NC. He will move on at some point. Maybe UCLA? With his ego there is no doubt he wants to win at the highest level.

  • @Woodrow I’m not sure. He can win a natty at WSU, he almost did it once before. He might be a lifer at WSU as he has already been there 11 years and turned down other jobs.
