I believe Ole Miss is on him as well right?

    Yes and Florida.

I still believe if KU wants him and pushes for a commitment, he ends up in Lawrence.

Indeed. KU is circling back around to a lot of recruits I thought they quit recruiting like Stanley and Achiuwa.

  • Any top 100 player and even many well below that will receive lots of attention from lots of programs. Look at Markese Jacobs…after he decommited from KU he received a number of offers from P5 programs even when he is not even a top 100 player at this time. It is really not surprising that the top players get numerous offers even from programs that do not have a chance but hope for a miracle. As fans we are spoiled because regardless who the prospect is, KU will always have a decent shot by virtue of being an elite program.

  • Zach Harvey moving back to 2020. Too early to tell if KU will pick things back up.

  • Surprised by the move. I’d imagine that ship has sailed

  • @BeddieKU23 I think it’s a good move for him, especially if he wants to end up at a bigger program like KU. The extra year of development can help a lot.

Like they say this might be a VERY good move for him - he had dropped some , give him time to rebound back , also this whole scenario that came to light will be over with by 2020 and hell he might be cleared or whatever by that time and not have that hanging over his head.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if KU didn’t re-invest in him for 2020 only time wi;; tell but I think you might see them picking back up their interest by then. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Here is the deal for me - the way I would look at it IF I were the recruit - my thought process and I guess I’m the lone stone in the grass if it were me - -anyways this would be me:

If I were a recruit and if I had stated like that a school was my dream school , then I received an offer from that school? - - Game over - -done - -finished- -others don’t bother.- -Like my case would be KU. -If KU was my dream school and they had interest in me - -and they offered I don’t care who else did - -ANYBODY period.

My reasoning? - -I mean why waste other schools time? - I know this is the school I want , why drag it on - I would want to be done so I could focus on my Senior year and not be bothered with the distractions - I would make PERFECTLY CLEAR I had chose my school. Better for them too they could focus elsewhere. - -I don’t need to take anymore visits. My Point didn’t Williamson say KU was his dream school? - -I don’t really understand - -unless he just isn’t as sold on us as what we thought? - - Me as a recruit - - would be easy - for them - -for me - -for the other schools. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Well I see ol stumpy got Nico Manion to commit - -wonder how he will screw him up lol. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Losing Sam Williamson to Louisville would be rough.

ARE WE LOSING Sam Williamson? - -to Louisville?

  • @jayballer73 Sure looks like it. Louisville people think it’s done.

  • Duke lost Josiah James as well. Looks like we’re both going down in a blaze of glory

  • BShark said:

Ya I saw that. After I read your post I looked at 247 sports and saw 3 CB’S for him including Evan Daniels - -Then this morning got up and saw two more including Andrew Slater. - -WTF? - - -things not looking good… I had read a poster from another site that said he had told people that Self had pissed Williamson’s mom off if that’s true - -that’s really sweet…

Same poster also said that Hurt & JRE are far from locks , and i’m having a tendency to agree - have been hearing that UK is really making a push for Hurt and closing in and closing fast - -Like Betty said turning into a dumpster fire - - this sucks if it turns out. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Losing Capel hurt them. Both will be okay though lol.

  • Losing Williamson is on the staff, no other way around it. Kid is one of the best shooters in the country and I think is a player just starting to realize what he can become. Louisville deserves credit for out recruiting Self here.

If we whiff on JRE then its time to hit the panic button. It’s been trending this way anyway since the summer. Certainly doesn’t look like we have a clue what’s going on either from a fan’s perspective

  • @BShark

2019 outlook for Duke right now looks bad.

Sounds like Self misread and misplayed a couple situations. In recruiting that can bite you. Not closing Williamson with all his ties to the program is pretty bad no doubt about it.

I’m not even sure where they turn now, there are no good realistic options at the 2/3. The staff was pretty all-in on Williamson. Braun is nowhere near an adequate replacement.

He may not be that adequate replacement but he might be the only choice at this stage - and that’s sad. - Same way on the Big’s GOD forbid we lose JRE and that could very easily happen - -and then If UK ends up taking Hurt? - - - gives a bad look for our staff this year - - who you going to replace them with? – Sure sounds like the staff screwed up with Williamson

  • @jayballer73 There are at least other options KU has kept recruiting in terms of bigs.

  • 🔔 🔔 🔔 🔔 🔔

  • No worries. Coach Self will pull a rabbit from the hat and an Ace from the sleeve…he always does and this is why KU wins so much.

  • Wing wasn’t a huge need anyway. Williamson wouldn’t have even started if KJ was still around. Ochai has been really impressive so far as well. Come on down, Braun.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Except for when he doesn’t and KU has some leaner years. Last couple years have been great though and I am not too worried here tbh.

Non-KU related, WSU got a PG commit: https://247sports.com/Player/Noah-Fernandes-46046890/

Very good tough player, underrated. Should fit in well with them.

If KJ was still around? Is he confirmed leaving or something? I figured there is a good chance he will be back.

Ochai is going to be a dude.

    Oops. Typo. Damn autocorrect.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Ah okay, that makes more sense. I hope KJ sticks around.

  • Apparently Self was in to see Braun in-home last night. Things might be escalating quickly here.

  • per my brewster friend Syracuse didn’t lock up Kai Jones on his visit. We’ll see what’s next for him

Oooh. Man I’d love to see Jones in a KU uniform but if he is set on starting (I think you mentioned something on this earlier) that could be a major hurdle.

  • @BShark

The recruiting services have Jones underrated still and Jones knows it. Some of the stuff my friend has been saying about him is more of a Top 30 player and Kai knows how much he’s improved so not only is he looking to be viewed as a top player but wants his future school to look at him like a starter and future pro. He works with 10+ D-1 athletes a year so I trust his judgement. Cuse did make an impression but Jones is holding out for blue blood interest. He has KU’s attention still from what my friend said

  • @BeddieKU23 Awesome. I would hope the staff would take him instead of holding out for Hurt if he wanted to commit.

  • Grabbing a 4 year guy now when you probably have 6 scholarships available is fine with me. He seems like a solid add. Good stroke. Good Handles. Good Vision. What’s not to like?

  • @Kcmatt7

The same was in a Top 30 player with heavy KU connections.

Braun is a Lightfoot level recruit…

  • Isn’t Braun from the same bvnw school the Loyola kids were from?

  • Braun is better than Lightfoot at the same stage. He’s not much of a downgrade from Williamson tbh. Just as good a shooter (better from 3), better ball handler, better rebounder. Probably not quite the athlete or defender yet.

  • Crimsonorblue22 said:

    Yup. Pretty solid program.

  • @BeddieKU23 I’m a pretty big fan of Sam’s game as you know. If he thought he was going to come in and be anointed the starter or given big minutes year one I could see that being a reason for the staff to pivot. With KJ, Garrett and Agbaji in the picture it would take a pretty elite wing to do that, like Achiuwa elite, imo. So maybe Sam would just clog things up a bit. Idk.

I could definitely see him being a better ball handler. Braun was definitely a PG last year. I really like Sam’s overall offensive game and his little step back jumper in particular but if the staff is looking for more of a spot up shooter Braun makes sense.

  • @BeddieKU23 I think Braun is probably a better player than Mitch. Mitch is an athlete, but he is either undersized or underskilled depending on how you look at it. I wouldn’t say the same thing about Braun.

Braun is closer to Tyrel Reed than he is Mitch Lightfoot.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Yes. His older brother Parker had several P5 offers, including Arizona , and chose to be a walk on at MU; he is a pretty good player as well. Their mom, Lisa Sambothe (sp?) and I believe other relatives played ball at MU.

Let’s not go too crazy. He didn’t turn down a full ride at Arizona to walk-on at MU. He did do that to Illinois though, which is hilarious.

  • It’s official, Braun to KU.

We’ll see how it unfolds with him here now. I’ll root for him to make the rotation but its not going to happen overnight either.

At least Braun is a good shooter with good size for either perimeter spot. Shooting was something Self wanted to address in this class

He did visit before Sam. It’s all very very interesting to be sure.

Definitely, all we can do is trust the staff’s evaluations and decisions. Williamson went in a diff direction and we pivoted to the next choice is how I see it. Maybe it was reversed.
