Who are your top candidates to replace Beaty?

  • I’ve done a little research myself now and have started a list of guys I wouldn’t be upset with them hiring if they have a good 2018 season.

    • Jason Candle - Toledo - 21-7 Record. However, he took over an already good roster from Matt Campbell. On the flip side, Matt Campbell’s early success at ISU might bode well for Candle. He is on my short list though.

    • Scott Satterfield - Appalachian State. 37-14 Record. Was OC for their 3 FCS National Championships and took over the job in 2013. They switched from FCS to FBS in the 2014 season and he has had a winning record every season since the switch. Very good candidate, but he may not leave. He has been there for 15 years and he is from North Carolina.

    • Mike Norvell - Memphis - 18-8. If we really want to continue to have an Air Raid offense, this would be a risky hire. But probably one that could have the highest upside. A Texas guy, but he has coached all over the country so he probably would be able to piece together a good team.

    • Neal Brown - Troy - 25-13. Age 38. Young fella that probably would have the energy to recruit the way he will have to recruit here. He was the OC at Tech and runs the Up-Tempo Air Raid better than our coaches do, no doubt about it.

  • How about Josh Heupel from UCF? He has a good pedigree and was 13-0 in his first season as HC at UCF.

  • @JayHawkFanToo No he wasn’t. Sorry if you were being sarcastic lol. But Frost was the HC last year and he went to Nebraska.

Heupel got named in December after Frost took the Nebraska job.

  • I’ll get started on Coordinators more next week.

  • @Kcmatt7

You are absolutely correct, I just did not remember the name looked it up, came up Heupel and forgot that Frost went to Nebraska. Thankful there are posters with better memory than mine. 😄

Not quite in a football mindset in March…perhaps in September?

  • @JayHawkFanToo lol with Chiefs news popping up lately I’m all but ready to turn the page to football.

  • If KU cans Beaty, they have to take a risk with the next hire. They have to go unconventional, because trying to beat OU at their game isn’t going to work, and trying to emulate Snyder while he’s still at KSU with an established program also isn’t happening. KU has to go with someone that is going to find a different way to win than what they have tried over the last 20 years.

We aren’t going to out-Oklahoma Oklahoma, and we aren’t going to out-Snyder Bill Snyder. We need our own way, and whether we continue with Beaty, or go with someone else, we have to establish what exactly the KU way is going to be.

  • What is this football you speak of?

  • Banned

I say ride with Coach Beaty. Let KU clean up the books, and besides Beaty isn’t doing a terrible job. Sure Wins matter, yet can anyone say the football program isn’t in a better since Beaty showed up?

  • @Kcmatt7 I hope Zenger isn’t making the decision. He fired Porter Moser at Illinois State.

  • Brian Ward, Syracuse defensive coordinator. It’s a swing for the fences but it’s atleast an educated one, not a position coach. I’m telling y’all to mark his name down, he’ll be a head coach someday at the D1 level and a successful one

  • @BShark I don’t think he will be.

  • @DoubleDD if He puts up another 1 win season he can’t stay. Just can’t. I hope this is an effort in futility on my part and he has an amazing season and we win 4 games. I just don’t see that happening.

  • @Kcmatt7 Hope you are right, he doesn’t deserve it. Also whenever Self retires I hope he is heavily involved with finding the next hoops coach.

  • I say 4 wins or he should be canned, no excuses at this point.

  • @BShark I heard self say he hopes whom ever follows him has KU ties.

  • 3 wins or he is gone. Oh, wait, this is about Beatty? I thought people were talking about being impatient for Self to get another NC!

  • Under normal conditions, Sheahon Zenger would be the obvious choice, because it prevents him from picking the next head coach.

But WWIII could make this a moot point, unless KU has been selected as one of the two teams to be moved to underground installations for subterranean entertainment for the lucky few selected to survive, while the world’s surface population is reduced via orchestrated pandemics and Directed Energy to 500 million.

(Note: all fiction. No malice. )

    Claw-deaf-blea Coach Krzyzewski!

  • The janitor at the local grade school.

    The greeter at Wal-Mart.

The guy that changes my oil at Jiffy-Lube.

  • Greeter, have you seen him at ku B.B. games? Personality plus🤣 are we talking sz?

I’d love to see Self’s successor have KU ties, but there really aren’t any coaches out there with KU ties that are worthy of the job or a realistic option.

I’d say Joe Dooley is the closest to being worthy, but we need to see him at higher level than FGCU to find out for sure.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 it speaks volumes what Self thinks of our program though.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

Norm Robers has more and higher level HC experience than Dooley.

  • Maybe Self can coach the first half of the season and see where it goes lol

  • @JayHawkFanToo There’s also a reason schools haven’t been beating down the door for Norm either. His run at St. John’s was not good.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

So far Dooley is doing well in a mid-major but so did Shaka…just sayin’

  • @JayHawkFanToo That’s why I said in my initial post that I want to see Dooley at a higher level before KU. but he’s the only guy with KU ties right now I think I would even consider in a few years, but that’s dependent upon him doing well at a better program as well.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

Jerrod Hasse is doing well at Stanford, Tad Boyle at Colorado, Mark Turgeon at Maryland, Rex Walters now an assistant coach with the Pistons, all have as much or more experience than Dooley.

At this time or near future none is even close to being ready to take over at KU who will go after a big name to follow HOF Bill Self.

  • Jerrod Hasse is the only person I would consider for the job with a KU tie at the moment. I hope he puts together a decent team next season. But I’m ok not hiring someone with KU ties. It worked pretty well the past 15 years.

  • @Kcmatt7 Bill worked a year for LB as a grad asst I believe. Not a playing connection, but his respect for KU tradition is so deep that it had to really take flower then. Exposed to it as an OSU visiting player, but immersed in it under LB. That is a pretty good connection.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Haase hasn’t done enough at Stanford and appears to regressing, Tad Boyle and Mark Turgeon have been a major programs long enough now without elevating them that I wouldn’t trust either at KU. Rex Walters failed at a low major so why would he be worthy.

Dooley hasn’t been a head coach long enough to ruin his chances, he just needs to show that he can be successful at a higher level first and he should have plenty of opportunities this off-season to move up to a higher level program.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

I was talking about experience at major programs and not necessarily success. I just don’t see any coach with ties to KU that could step in, say in the next 3 to 5 years; Manning has been a disappointment at Wake Forest. KU commands a high level coach; hopefully Coach Self stays at KU for at least another 10 years in which time someone could have developed enough to step in.
