  • One more from Syracuse

  • This Syracuse team is very long, but also very lean. Azuibuke could very well over power this team, or pick up a lot of cheap fouls. How that plays out could decide the tenor of this game.

The key however, is for KU to hunt good shots. Threes will be there all day long, but you can’t get lulled into taking long jumpers just because you have half a step or so to get the shot off. Guys have to hunt - literally search out - the good shots and not just settle for what seems like an open shot.

Good points. - - I think a very valid part will be getting a guy in the middle that can make those passes out to the wing - -exp/Vick. - -Like you said, just because it’s there doesn’t mean we fall in love with the 3. The three is gonna be there, the baseline 3 will be there quite often, but we need to explore inside, thing is Doke going to have to be decisive, the ball can’t stick in his hands. It’s already been proven when Doke posts and they can get the ball in - they have no one that can stop his take to the basket. - -They just can’t force the pass or fall in love with the 3.

The way we have been able to move the ball we average 20 assists which is the result of wise decisions, good ball movement - bottom line the ball CAN NOT STICK, crisp passing will beat that zone. - -and if we hit outside jumpers we can pull them out of this zone - -just be or make wise basketball decisions. - -We have been down this road before with Syracuse - They will be no pushover , but they for sure can be beat - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Really good to be able to check out another teams board and find some refreshing talk. - -Syracuse fans giving us lots of props. - - For the most part they all seem like they could be in trouble -said for sure they don’t want to get in a track meet with us - -make us play at half court game - -saying they are the tallest team in the Country, they might have a chance.

Really afraid of our outside shooting - -giving SVI all kind of props - -talking about Devonte, just refreshing seem pretty level headed. Not saying they don’t have a chance - -but most seem to think they could be in trouble - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @wrwlumpy good catch with Frank Baum

  • So far, KU has seen a lot of zone - it hasn’t lasted very long. Vick has taken Josh’s position at the middle of the zone and has made it work to our advantage. When Vick is not in, Garrett has moved in to that position. Both are tall and both are very good at passing to the open man. They both know what to do when the double team comes. Syracuse and Temple have always been the Benchmark for zone defense. Syracuse is Big, but this KU team might not have the best guard in the country, but I feel that KU has the best four on the floor at all times vs any other team in the nation. Garrett has been one of the best (Not One and Done) Freshman in the country, Look at the scores in the games Syracuse has played. They have played the same teams we have. KU by 15.

  • Interesting hair seems to be a theme with Syracuse folks.

Only been through there once, but I love that part of NY.

Good work as always, @wrwlumpy !

  • Cuse has kinda had our number in a way, they own a slim 3-2 advantage all time. But they’ve won big games, obviously the 03 title game to go with 08 CBE championship in KC and in 96 when they knocked us outta the dance in one of the first KU games I remember watching. I honestly don’t remember the last time we beat them, I was thinking we did once with Roy. Never liked Jim, always thought he seemed like a snake and the issues that he had with his assistant (that’s as far as I’ll go on that) is sickening. Anyway let’s just kick their asses tomorrow.

  • Just saw on ESPN Syracuse will have only 8 scholarship players Saturday as guard Geno Thorpe leaves the program after averaging 6 points in 14 minutes in 6 games this season. So in other words having a short bench won’t be an excuse tomorrow.

Hopefully for the sake of both teams the refs don’t have a quick whistle.

  • There might be more Orange than Blue at his game. The Stereotypical New Yorker Snow Birds own this area and many of the Heat fans are Snowbirds.

  • I wish Self would teach our guys shot fakes.

This is the single extra tool that could put Cuse away. We are going to make their guys run to catch shooters. The way to deal with defenders having to catch up on space on shooters is to use shot fakes so after they foul a few times they can’t continue those desperate leaps to close the gap.

  • Did Sosinski travel with the team to Syracuse? I haven’t been able to find anything…

  • @Gorilla72 I don’t think he would be allowed to unless formally added to the team (has that happened and I missed it?), which requires NCAA approval I think. They can’t just fly anyone or it would probably be an improper inducement.

  • Boeheim faces one of his most complicated decisions today? 2-3 zone or surprise with man. That’s about as complicated as it gets for Jim. Well that and whether or not to play an ineligible player.

  • @mayjay

You are correct. In fact, I understand but not have been able to confirm, there are limits with the type of practice drill non-team members, i.e. practice players, can participate.

  • @drgnslayr I’ve always wondered why we never seem to do shot fakes. I think they are great, watch any of Bob Knights coaching videos and he loves them too.

  • @kjayhawks

We saw several Syracuse players use shot fakes… most of them were freshmen. So it isn’t like we should be waiting to teach shot fakes in their senior year!

Actually… Graham IS using shot fakes and often it helps him create space of draw a foul.

This is the reason I try not to watch KU games in bars. Heck… I will holler out just for seeing a KU player use an effective shot fake!
