Bol bol's team walks off court in wichita

  • Buncha cry babies on the AAU circuit. Lavar’s influence???

  • That’s pretty crazy. Although I must say as being an Basketball official for right at 17 yrs - -6 Tech"s ? - -That’s kind of hard to believe. I mean a an official you can’t have rabbit ears, - -you can’t get caught up watching the sideline more - -the Coach more then what’s taking place on the floor.

As an official if the 6 Techs were truly warranted they have the capability to call the game, even clear a gym if need be, If Bol’s team was this bad then did the Ref’s warn the Coach - The team ? Sounds like someone was getting caught up in the moment - -his moment of glory - -Very easy could of happened - just saying it sounds to me the whole situation was not handled very well. - -As an official you have to have a thick skin as no matter what you call there is someone who is not going to be happy with the call.

We were always told if a game is officiated well, the Coaches, the players will not even know the officials are there, a game is to be decided by the teams, not the officials. Just not a good thing all the way. Did they deserve SOME of the Tech’s? - -I’m sure they did - - Did they deserve ALL the tech’s? - -probably not. - Sounds like somebody became very thinned skinned. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • The fouls look pretty even, but if they were really calling that many T’s in a game that wasn’t actually chippy, I can’t really blame the coach for pulling his team. I have seen a coach pull his team on only one occasion due to officiating - a football official missed a chop block and a face mask in pretty close succession. For the safety of his players (6th graders) the coach pulled his team in a tie game. I couldn’t really blame him.

This situation looks different, and I would have needed to be there to be sure, but six T’s in a game is a lot. If they were really that bad, the officials could have ejected players or coaches long before then. The fact that they didn’t makes me wonder.

  • Mayb has a lot of officials do a lot of games in a long weekend. They get pretty lazy! It’s great money for them. I use to get pretty mad too, some wouldn’t even get to half court. You r getting paid, do your job. Kids deserve it.

  • AAU is what’s wrong with basketball in the US right now. It doesn’t prepare players to succeed at higher levels and mostly serves to bring out the worst in players and coaches. There needs to be a major overhaul of prep basketball so that kids are learning skills that will gp them in college and the pros and so the coaches and players can be held accountable when they act like whiny little babies.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

I agree with you. These two statements say a lot…

Central Kansas Elite coach Clint Kinnamon, who has won four state championships as coach of St. John, was stunned at the abrupt ending to the game.”

“I have coached a lot of games and never have I ever seen anything like that before,” Kinnamon said. “Honestly, the amount of disrespect their kids and coach showed towards the officials was just wrong on so many levels.”

    and

Central Kansas Elite coach Clint Kinnamon said his team felt a little slighted when Midwest Flight exited.

“It’s not like they were getting beat by guys who aren’t very good,” Kinnamon added. “All of our guys are going to be college players. In some ways, it was kind of disrespectful to our kids a little bit because it was like, ‘Well, we’re getting beat by guys we shouldn’t lose to, so we’re going to take our ball and go home.’ ”

The statements above put the situation in context and does not reflect well on Midwest Flight coaching staff or players.

  • @JayHawkFanToo I went to a mayb game between my cousins team and clint k’s team, a few summers ago. Clint was t’d up and warned several times, parents were bad! Randy smithson-wsu old coach, was a ref/slightly out of shape and known for being a bit over the top as a coach. It got completely out of hand and there were not any adults in charge there. I can not stand Clint or his brother!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Randy Smithson? Wow, that is a name from the past. I seem to remember him having a drug issue while at WSU but got clean afterwards.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Remember the 'fro?

  • @KUSTEVE

I believe you are thinking of Gene Smithson who was Randy’s father and coached at WSU in the late 70s and early-mid 80s and had a pretty good run and some big time players. Randy played for him and became coach at WSU in the late 90s.

  • @JayHawkFanToo That’s right. The old man had quite a hair do.

  • Some of the refs are ridiculous, but I’d say the bigger issue is the attitude of the players and coaches towards the refs. Showing respect to officials is not the virtue it once was.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I think you missed a golden opportunity for a title.

    Try this…

    “Bol Bol’s team walks off-off.”

  • 2018 5 ⭐️ Bol Bol showed up at halftime, played 10 minutes, hit some 3s, blocked some shots, then bounced with 4:07 left in a tied game.

Honestly, Kinnamon’s quotes don’t say much for him in my eyes. His team was up 10 at the time in what would be an even game except for all of the FTs and extra possessions his team got from the six technical fouls called.

If you’re on the other side of that, coaching against a guy that’s pretty well known in his own backyard, don’t you start getting the sense that your team may be getting “home-towned”? I’m not saying that The Midwest Flight team was going to win. I wasn’t at the game. But six technicals (I guess five, since they walked off after #6) means that Central Kansas Elite got 10 extra FTs and 5 extra possessions. If they cashed in half those opportunities, that’s 5 points on FTs and another 4-6 on possessions (not counting lost possessions, if there were any, for Midwest Flight). That’s 9-11 points right there, perhaps more.

On top of that, they just ejected a Midwest Flight player. If I’m the Flight coach, I do have to wonder if my team is going to get a fair shake down the stretch. If that’s the question in my mind, should I have my squad finish or just shake hands with the other team, congratulate them on their effort and roll out?

Again, I wasn’t at the game, didn’t see any of the action. But six technicals, unless the game was on the verge of Midwest Flight brawling with either the other team, or the officials, seems pretty extreme.

    When a coach says:

“Honestly, the amount of disrespect their kids and coach showed towards the officials was just wrong on so many levels.”

…it speaks volumes. I find it hard to believe a coach, any coach, would make such a strong and public statement unless there is evidence to back it up. The stories I read about the game do not seem to indicate any obvious bias by the refs. Making a patently false statement could expose him to a whole lot of issues.

Neither one of us was at the game but from the couple of stories I read, sounds like the other team came in with a sense of entitlement (Bol Bol did not even show up until half time) and expecting to win easily and became frustrated and openly hostile to the refs when things did not go as planned. The coach should have kept his players under control after the first couple of Ts but apparently did not do so. What are the refs supposed to do when players become disrespectful and are asking for a T? Is there a rule written or unwritten that says after so many Ts the refs should cut them some slack? I think not.

Coaches at this level bear the brunt of responsibility for the team’s actions. Clowns like LaVar Ball are setting a horrible precedent for coaches at this level and I can see this type of behavior becoming more prevalent.

Just my opinion and I could be wrong.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

I agree with that. I’m just looking at it from both sides. Clearly something was going on in this game. Perhaps it was disrespect. Perhaps it was frustration. I don’t know.

From reading Kinnamon’s comments and the aftermath, it doesn’t look like Midwest Flight was trying to disrespect Kansas Elite. Typically, in these types of games, if things are that tense from one side, it spills over into conflict between the players. That didn’t happen here. That’s what is making me question this storyline, just because that’s not typically how these types of games go. That’s what has me scratching my head.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Stupid coaching move. You tell your players to suck it up and PLAY. Let ur play do the talking. Teaches kids to just quit when things dont go ur way
