Other B12 Teams Please Stand Up!

  • @icthawkfan316 don’t forget weathermax attacking coach at ISU!

  • The two B12 teams most likely to win a NC (after KU) are Texas and Iowa State (in the next several years).

I would put West Virginia and Oklahoma right after those two. Iowa State is only there because of Hoiberg. If he leaves, I think their status gets re-evaluated. I know OSU should be considered because of their history, but I don’t think they can get it together in the near term. Baylor, with all their talent, doesn’t have the leadership or legacy. Same with KSU, minus the talent.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Yeah I remember that clown. While that is also a black eye for them, I try and restrain myself from holding an entire fan base accountable for the actions of one person. Look at the guy from TT that got the shove from Marcus Smart. The mob mentality directed towards EJ by a larger number of their fans is more damning, IMO.

  • @icthawkfan316 it was an ugly night!

  • @bskeet I would agree with your two teams that are the most likely. Barnes has at least been to a Final 4, and Hoiberg seems on the cusp.

Talent-wise, I don’t know that OU or WVU are going to have enough talent anytime soon. Baylor does lack the leadership, but Drew should have a Final 4 on his resume. He took a team to the elite 8 in…2011 I believe, and was absolutely robbed as the officials all but handed the game to Duke. To this day that is probably the worst officiated game I’ve ever witnessed (and I really don’t like Drew, so I’m 100% certain there is no bias on my part in saying that!).

  • @icthawkfan316 Do you think someone like Hoiberg would be in the running for the Lakers job or is it Steve Kerr’s?

  • Hoiberg is going to have to do w/o Doc Sadler.

Southern Miss AD Bill McGillis as thorough as there is. Happy that it looks like he’s hired Doc Sadler. They’ll love him in Hattiesburg!

##For Real Though, We Need To Talk About Thomas Robinson’s Block

    Tom Ley

I, like most basketball fans, have been thinking about last night’s game between the Rockets and Blazers pretty much all day. But out of all the amazing shit that happened in that game—Wes Matthews torpedoing the ball and the win out of Patrick Beverley’s hands; that brief stretch when Nic Batum, Damian Lillard, and James Harden turned the court into a playground; Jeremy Lin’s Viking funeral—I keep coming back to this block by Thomas Robinson.

Holy ####, this block, man. It’s hard to imagine a more perfect conception of the phrase “stuffed at the rim.” Howard could not have been any closer to scoring without stuffing both his arms straight through the rim, and Robinson arrived at the last possible millisecond to turn what should have been a highlight-reel alley-oop into a thunderclap of a block.

And this isn’t the first time Robinson has done something like this. You may recall him pulling off the block of the regular season back in February. Here’s hoping he keeps finding minutes and blocking the #### out of people, for all our sakes.

    1. None. I don’t want any B12 schools to win the NC. I like for B12 teams to do well in the tournament…up to a point. Elite 8 is good. I don’t even want any others to go to the final four. Only us. I’m selfish in that regard.
    2. Probably KState. I want them to do well…but not that well.

  • @RockChalkinTexas : Who bleeped out the curse words in that story?? Because there was a S bomb missed in the first paragraph. I really don’t care but I noticed the other two S’s are #pounded out and thought well ####, if it’s a program it missed one, if it’s a direct copy/paste then Tom let one slip, and if you tried to tame this wild beast you left one flying.

  • @icthawkfan316 “He took a team to the elite 8 in…2011 I believe, and was absolutely robbed as the officials all but handed the game to Duke. To this day that is probably the worst officiated game I’ve ever witnessed (and I really don’t like Drew, so I’m 100% certain there is no bias on my part in saying that!).”

Completely agree. Remember the game well. Fueled the Duke conspiracy theories. I thought the officiating bordered on criminal … meaning I think it was pretty obvious that other factors were in play.

  • @RockChalkinTexas I’m not really up to speed on any NBA inner workings, so I couldn’t say if he’d be a candidate for the Lakers job or not. I think he will attract NBA teams, but I think the situation would have to be pretty good for him to leave his alma mater (meaning I don’t think he’ll take just any old bottom feeder rebuilding job).

Btw, thanks for posting the TRob block link. That was sweet!

  • What other B12 school would you not be totally repulsed to see win a NC? (Imagine another B12 school playing Mizzery) OU

What other B12 school would you LEAST like to to see win a NC? ISU yes even over KSU.

    @VailHawk

  • @icthawkfan316 @RockChalkinTexas : “The Mayor” has been linked to several NBA jobs so far. Of course the T-Wolves were rumored as a place he could go since he spent time there as a player and in the front office. He’s also been linked to Golden State if they part ways with Mark Jackson. He was mentioned in the Knicks opening as a 3rd possibility behind Kerr and Kevin Ollie. Maybe he’s ahead of Ollie but Phil Jackson wants Kerr. And as you bring up ict, the Lakers job is an option. I’m sure if i googled Freddie his name would pop up in other openings like the Utah one and the possible opening in Indy if they get ousted by Atlanta. This is all from College Sports Nation on XM.

  • I think it would help KU if another Big12 team were to win a title. Obviously I don’t want them to win at our expense, but a strong conference helps everyone. That said, I think OU, OSU and Texas are most likely, with Iowa State coming in after that.

Baylor is a perennial darkhorse because they get enough talent.

I can’t see WVU, Tech, TCU or K-State ever having enough talent to actually win it all.

  • @justanotherfan Not to be argumentative, but I’m just curious - how would another Big 12 team winning a National Championship help KU? Thanks!

  • @Kip_McSmithers I edited out the s bombs not wanting to offend anyone and being how it was so &#($&(#) early, I did miss the one in the first sentence.

Did we all agree NOT to edit out the curse words when you are copying and pasting an article ? Since I wasn’t sure, I did.

  • @nuleafjhawk It would give them another team in conference that had some national respect. Right now, the Big 12 is looked at as KU and the 9 dwarfs. Nobody has been consistently good enough to get national respect, so KU’s dominance isn’t really appreciated on a national scale.

Like I said, I wouldn’t want them winning at KU’s expense, but I would like to see the Big 12 do better in the tournament as a whole because right now they just don’t do enough.

  • @justanotherfan - Thanks for the explanation. I can’t really take it all in right now - I’m too busy thinking about

    #KU and the 9 dwarfs#

lol - I truly love that. I wonder if we can petition the Big 12 to officially change the name of our conference !

  • @nuleafjhawk and @justanotherfan you may be onto something!

But seriously, this was my point all along…conference success benefits KU. Like the SEC in football, having a strong conference that puts teams in the F4 and wins titles is a good thing.

It would also help create real rivalries. The border war was such a good rivalry bc it went back to the civil war not bc it was competitive. Dook and UNC win national titles and the same w Louisville and UK thus intensifying the rivalry.

Imagine if the Mildcats won a national title? Even though I just threw up a little in my mouth, it would make it so much sweeter to beat them the next time we played.

So I’m gonna go with KSU for both answers!

  • Banned

    @VailHawk

    1. Iowa St.

    2. Kansas St.

Iowa St. values basketball because the really love the game. Not just because they want to beat KU.

I’m getting a little tired of Kansas St fans thinking they are all that and above KU in the pecking order in this conference. I hate to say it but I can’t wait for Bill Snyder to pass away. It’s not that I hate the guy. He is just a great coach and as long as he can draw a breath Kstate will be there with an open check book. I like to see what would happen without coach Snyder. If my memory serves me correct they didn’t fair so well. Plus I hate their new Basketball Coach. He has such a complex with HCBS.

  • @DoubleDD

That is a pretty harsh thing to say about Coach Snyder. I could understand you wishing he retires, but pass away?

I have nothing but respect for Coach Snyder; he is and has always been a class act and college football could use more coaches like him.

  • @JayHawkFanToo a little to far, dead is to far!

  • For Real Though, We Need To Talk About Thomas Robinson’s Block

@RockChalkinTexas Thank you for sharing that awesome block!

  • @HighEliteMajor Kansas/Duke 1986 by far. I looked at the box score from that game the other day and I am still shaking my head. The worst officiated game I ever witnessed. Take a look at the box score if you get the chance.

    1. Iowa State, with Hoiberg at the helm.
    2. Baylor, because of Drew; K State, just because…

  • The more I think about it, the more I think I’d like to keep it just the way it is - as @justanotherfan so eloquently stated -

    KU and the 9 dwarfs

If the rest of them want any notoriety they’ll have to earn it.
