Mason's Baylor Line Must Be Repeated

  • I’m still enjoying the bounty of information from the Baylor box score. My goodness Frank had a great line: 39 min, 7-12 FG, 1-3 3PT, 8-8 FTs, 2 Rbs, 8 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 TO and 23 Pts. What a special player we have in Frank Mason.

  • Yep very impressive. What a stud. I think it’s a good sign that he’s back to his old self. Hitting those floaters and finishing at the rim (as much) is what was missing the last couple weeks.

    But he’s back.

  • @stoptheflop gonna be a sad senior pm!

  • @stoptheflop It was great to see him look good again. He had not shot the ball well in the last few games and struggled to get rim. I was worried he may have been running outta gas. But he looked like he had his legs back for sure.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 sad truth Mason will only be in AFH 2 more games. He will go in the books as one of my all time favorites.

  • @kjayhawks gonna be hard for frank and coach!

  • Frank is my favorite ever. Felt pretty sentimental about Perry last year. Trying not to think about this one. Just hoping he gets to go out in one shining moment.

Also, stoked that he’s going to get his jersey in the rafters.

  • @approxinfinity I don’t know that I could pick an all time favorite. I have a list of guys like this Kenny Gregory, Nick Collison, Kirk Hinrich, Thomas Robinson, Billy Thomas, Tyrell Reed, Sherron Collins, Jared Haase, Perry Ellis and Frank Mason. This pretty much guys I remember. I’m 28 and started watching when I was 7 or 8.

  • I’m 26 so I don’t remember a lot of the older guys but my all time favorite will always be Paul Pierce because his freshman year is when i discovered KU basketball. Frank Mason is definitely in my top 5 along with TRob, Sherron, and Withey

  • Ya, I’d like Frank to get a shot in Final Four games. We already know he’s shined on the big stage from Day 1. And, he finally has help! DG and JJ are the 3Amigos. Add glueVick and SviSniper, and Frank has a battle-tested unit ready for action.

Frank is now recovered from the FLU. He’s had his flu-game(s), and KU survived.

I think Seth or Jay at ESPN called KU a “bubble team” if we didnt have Frank Mason this year. Scary thought.

I’m curious how Frank qualifies? Or are you basing this off of Franks destiny to be tournament MOP?

  • @dylans hmm. Either POY or tourney MVP. I was thinking first team all American but I guess that’s all four years?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Lucas too. It will be hard not to cry I’m sure.

  • @kjayhawks But probably 3, and hopefully 5, more in front of KU fans in KC!

  • I remember when we recruited Mason, Wiggins, Jojo, Selden, and Frankamp. I recall Coach Self saying that Wiggins, Selden, and Frankamp were all highly regarded coming out of high school but that he was “really excited” about the 2 players no one was talking about. It was before Embiid jumped up on the college hoops radar.

  • I hope he can find another couple of under recruited guards that no one is talking about this year! Maybe Coach Self can start looking around Towson or Appalachian State’s campus?

  • @Statmachine I actually remember Self’s comments after the loss to VCU, and how “their” athletes didnt “look any different” than KU’s. He was especially enamored with VCU’s little guard (Rodriguez) who played with a chip on his shoulder, a quality he loves. And a quality he couldnt reliably coax out of EJ, and Naadir just didnt have it.

Enter 1 Frank Mason, and add 1 DGraham. Sadly, we only get Frank for 5-6weeks also…

Personally, I think Frank is the most capable and complete lead guard Self has had at KU, with Sherron extremely close. This is a player comparison. But if one wants to talk KU legacy, then I’d like to see Frank lead KU into a Final Four. He deserves the chance, and I know he’d be good in those big lights. Nobody can stop him.

If KU finds itself in a Final Four with Frank, Josh, and Devonte, I would bet on them. 3 alpha dogs in sync.

  • @ralster good points. I think we can get there but have to have more than Frank get us there. We have seen some bad nights from everyone on the team not excluding Frank but the Indiana game is a reminder that more than Frank has to show up. We have capable guys that go nuts at any moment and obviously JJ is on a different level than at season’s start.

  • @approxinfinity The qualifications have been relaxed, but I don’t know what they are. I hope Frank can qualify.
