Carlton Bragg Arrested

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I pray that this wasn’t something horrible with a woman.

  • @RockChalkRedlock

Gonna see some Mitch and Dwight tomorrow for sure.

  • @BShark I’m hoping too… I know how people’s minds can race, but I agree with you 100 % just gonna have to hold on a little for more to come out. I think the WORST possible would be his mother - - see how minds race, any woman for that matter He is getting more and more things against him jumping to the N.B.A next year – his bad play although was starting to see signs of possibly coming out of that, now this - -how long does this affect him? will this become a distraction to the team? - - - Wish nothing but the best for Bragg, just got to get it together. - - AS ALWAYS JAYHAWK FOR LIFE - - ahh, you like how I changed my ending? lol - -changed my profile pic too

  • @jayballer54 his mother wouldn’t be at a sorority house

  • If you’ve ever seen a professional/major college athlete up close, which I know we all have, these guys are absolutely physically intimidating. I shudder to think what it must be like to face an angry person who is 6’8" and conditioned like Carlton is.

I hope, not for KU basketball sakes, but for Carlton’s and whomever he is involved with that nothing happened. If something did happen, I hope he never steps foot on the court at AFH, but that he gets it together completely to make some money as an NBA player, overseas player, plumber, banker or whatever.

  • Oh man, what terrible terrible timing.

I dont know what happened, I wasnt there. Therefore I will not pass judgement on the kid.

One thing I do know is that Bragg is not the first player to get in trouble for something like this here at KU. Everyone remember Mario Little?

Im not condoning physical violence, at all. Especially against Women!

But Bragg is still just a kid, he has a chance to learn from this and be a better man for it. He’ll have to take his punishment like an adult. He’ll have to do some serious introspecting.

I feel bad for all involved here.

  • Very very foolish of Bragg, Obviously innocent til proven guilty but just not smart on his part for putting himself in that situation. He also could just be falsely accused, its like our parents used to say nothing good happens after midnight. I’m sure he had some sort of curfew with it being in the season.

  • @BShark Geez Louise …coach is going to kick his ass…

  • The first question I have is what was Carlton doing being out at 6am?

Nothing good happens late at night. I’d like to know the team policy… team curfew in constant effect?

What family members does Carlton have in Lawrence? A sibling or mother? I doubt his mother was up at 6am…

I know this is a distraction to the team, but this may be the best circumstances for Carlton and the team. It exposes that he has “stuff” going on outside of basketball that doesn’t appear to be positive for his basketball future. It has been clear this season that Carlton has not been really plugged in to basketball. His focus hasn’t been 100% basketball.

The young man needs some counseling on priorities (as do pretty much every young man and woman).

I hope this results in sobering thought for young Carlton. I remain optimistic that Carlton/coaches/team will turn this into something positive. Struggle tends to stimulate growth.

  • @kjayhawks so were any of you guys out after midnight when you were young and after finals? Guilty here! Let’s hear the whole story, Bragg is the last one I expected to hear this kind of story about.

  • @betterfireE didn’t seem to bother Tareek Hill much…

  • @Crimsonorblue22 No, I was a perfect little angel. I never went to the Hawk ( especially on Friday afternoon), never drank schooners, never went to Ichabod’s Monday night Drink and Drown night, or anything of the sort. I was never at Jayhawk Towers when Darnell Valentine happened to use the elevator and 3 or 4 BIg KU fans, completely wasted fans by the way, happened to get on the same elevator, and proceeded to completely freak out Darnell Valentine, who couldn’t wait to get off the elevator. No, that wasn’t me.

  • A pitcher who pitched the Cubs to the World Series on the 1 year anniversary of a domestic violence act which involved terrorizing his wife with a gun recently signed with the Yankees for something like 86 million dollars. Maybe Carlton saw two high profile major league teams turn a blind eye to domestic violence and figured it wasn’t that big of a deal.

  • @wissox no way!

  • @KUSTEVE I never did any of that stuff either. In fact… It sounds as if we must have had exactly the same type of experience at KU.

  • I believe he was arrested at 1:am. He cannot be released until seeing a magistrate who looks over the charge…

Regardless this isn’t a good look for Carlton who from all accounts is a good kid. Until all the facts are released we should wait and see… I hope this is a good learning experience for Carlton and isn’t serious enough where it jeopardizes his position with the team or his good-standing relationship with Bill.

  • @wissox “conditioned like Carlton is” what heck is that supposed to mean.

@drgnslayr “what was Carlton doing being out at 6am” He was arrested at that time, doesn’t mean he was out until then.

All of us fans should not speculate so early. I always hate to see people going after people with little information. Damning others before facts can speak volumes about ones character. Don’t be that guy. Just be patient and hope for the best.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 didn’t see where it said it happened at a sorority house

  • @RockChalkRedlock

Good point… but I doubt the police came to his dorm and pulled him out of bed. However… could have.

You are right, not to judge yet. The facts aren’t all in.

I don’t see this as an “end of the world” scenario. Quite the opposite. It may end up exposing some issues that were also bleeding onto the court.

  • Key words from the available reports:

“suspicion” of domestic battery against a family member.

“HAS NOT” not yet been charged…

So, let’s wait until all the information is in before commenting; we still have that pesky presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Having said this, I disagree he is still a kid, he is a week away from turning 21; a grown man, in my opinion.

  • Like I’ve read on other sites PEOPLE let’s not judge to harsly till we know the situation. A family member doesn’t mean it necessarily mean it was a woman – -could of been a brother, maybe giving him smack about how he has been playing and it just reached a boiling point with Bragg - -we. certainly hope it wasn’t a woman - -no excuse for that I have read comments about people wanting him kicked off the team, get rid of him - -seriously?, that’s a little much IF and again that’s a big IF, then Coach self will get it taken care of, but to kick him off the team - - umm no. They still don’t even know if they going to press charges yet and we got people wanting him kicked off the team holy shit. Let’s see how this comes out before we be the Judge, jury and convictioner.

If it was a woman then he will have to pay for his actions - -the key is, this is just getting out we have got to wait before we judge, I’m not talking about my friends here but just as an over all view. ALWAYS A JAYHAWK

  • @JayHawkFanToo yep - can’t really make any excuses at this point

  • @JayHawkFanToo

“Having said this, I disagree he is still a kid, he is a week away from turning 21; a grown man, in my opinion.”

True… but many of these players have had lopsided upbringings. Many of the lessons they should have received often didn’t happen because sports overshadowed many key moments that should have been learning experiences.

It is that way for most young prodigies.

And then there are those cases where players grew up too fast, having to face issues that even few adults ever face.

I think it best to not generalize age and maturity in this case.

  • Bragg case is “under review” and there is currently no hearing set up with a judge, a Douglas County District Attorney official says.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I’m not saying I didn’t get in to trouble but you’ve got to be smarter as a big time athlete. Lets just see what we find out.

  • There is a rumor on Reddit but its not worth sharing for the sake of waiting for all the facts to come out about this situation. If anyone is interested in the rumor check out reddit and search carlton bragg and there’s a thread about it going on. I really hope the info one person shared is not in fact true

  • @RockChalkRedlock He’s a large, physically imposing person. I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him.

  • @BeddieKU23 I saw it, can’t believe it still! I’m waiting

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Me too, I will give Carlton the benefit of the doubt until otherwise.

  • @wissox he’s not that physical on the court

  • @Crimsonorblue22 @RockChalkRedlock He’s what, 6’10"? Strong. That’s physical enough to make him physically imposing to me. On the court he’s going up against similarly built and conditioned people.

Well shit I hope so as well.

  • From what I have read about Bragg, this seems out of character. I gave the WVU dude the benefit of the doubt on the flagrant foul and I would be dishonest if I don’t do the same with Bragg…at least until all the facts are in.

I am sure Coach Self and staff are on top of the situation and we will have the facts soon enough.

  • The charges have been changed to show it is a “misdemeanor battery.”

If this is his first charge, the odds are he won’t see any jail time and will pay a fine anywhere between $500 and $2500 and then be on probation for a period of time.

  • He will appear in court today at 3pm . Hopefully its nothing, I had a friend get arrested for assault for pushing someone that was dismissed. We can hope its something along those lines, to me it would be stupid to waste tax dollars and time to arrest someone for pushing to start with but that’s the way it goes.

  • @KUSTEVE then don’t! Please

  • Like most of you, I don’t want to post things that aren’t accurate, but here’s another Rumer:

  • @tis4tim

    Love it!

  • Matt Galloway

Heading into Bragg’s 3 p.m. hearing now, where recording devices are not permitted. Will update after.

Just got the first page of Carlton Bragg’s criminal offense report from the LKPD. Under “type of force/weapon,” “personal weapon” checked.

Following up on this: There was a section for “none” under armed, so I would think this mean weapon involved.

  • By the way Matt Galloway is a KU beat writer

  • Carlton Bragg, appearing on video, pleads not guilty to charge of misdemeanor battery. Bond set at $500 OR. He will be released.

Bragg will be released after bond at 5 or 6 p.m. His next court date is 1:30 p.m. Dec. 27.

  • Galloway also reporting:

The offense report indicates Bragg is suspected of using alcohol and drugs or narcotics. It also lists “personal weapon” as the type of force or weapon used.

    Sounding worse by the minute.

  • @Fightsongwriter

Personal Weapon can mean hand, foot basically Bragg’s body. Otherwise it would have been aggravated battery

  • User Actions
    Following

Joe Davis ‏@ByJoeDavis Via the @KCStar, Bragg “struck his girlfriend and pushed her down stairs during an argument.”

  • First reaction to that news is unless he’s cleared he’s played his last minutes in a KU uni

  • @BeddieKU23 I was more referring to the narcotics reference in terms of getting worse. But pushing your lady down the stairs, if true, at six in the a of the m is not a good scene.

  • @BeddieKU23 The whole story isn’t out yet. He clearly deserves a major suspension regardless. Just really sad because everything I had heard about him was that he was just the nicest guy. A bunch of my sorority friends used to hang out with him routinely and they all said that.

  • @Fightsongwriter Happened at 1 a.m. but he was arrested at 6 a.m.

  • Smiled in his Mug Shot as well… Bad bad press
