KU Sports - Oct 29: Wiggins Era Begins

  • Kansas freshman forward Andrew Wiggins

Wiggins Era Begins The cover of Sports Illustrated. Shirtless, hanging from a rim in GQ magazine. Jamming nasty dunks — 360, between the legs, behind the back, you name it — all over YouTube. On mock NBA drafts as the likely No. 1 pick.

Is there anywhere Andrew Wiggins hasn’t been spotted yet?

Oh, yeah, playing in an actual college basketball game.

It’s go time: Andrew Wiggins, KU to debut tonight

Andrew Wiggins, who arrived on Kansas University’s campus on June 15 for the start of his one-year college adventure, has picked up plenty of pointers from his new coaches and teammates.

Asked to identify the single-most important thing he has learned heading into his KU basketball debut — today’s 7 p.m. opener against Pittsburg State — the soft-spoken Canadian said simply: “Always running the floor. Always running the floor.”

In this article, Self sounds a bit weary of all the media… And there are Canadian stations covering the exhibition game…

  • I glad some of our brothers are still fighting the good fight over on KUSports. Gary Bedore had commented about nine times today to respond to the negativity towards the site’s new policy. Vjay responded to Bedores claim that he would rather respond to real people with real names. Vjay told him that he had just had a diatribe with a commenter named Mike Krotchurtz, then told him to say the name 3 times real fast. Many, including myself, would gladly pay a subscription fee of $1.99 to allow the paper and journalist to make money. Then, Vjay told Bedore to quit commenting on the site. First game of the year and this is what we’re talking about.

  • Yeah, a little silly. I am not sure where to watch the game because I don’t have Time Warner cable and don’t know anyone with it. Will it be on espn 3??

  • Hey guys I’m not an attorney so I could be wrong but I think if we pull over an article like this we need to site the source and the author, don’t we?

Thanks for sharing it though… Just looking out.

  • You may be correct on that-not sure but better safe than …

  • All, like many others I have been a long time reader over at KU Sports, but I never posted. I appreciate approx’s efforts in bringing this site online.

I wanted to pass along some information I heard on the news last night. I live outside Lawrence and I get Topeka stations on my DirectTV. On WIBW (CBS) last night they said they will carry the game tonight even though it will not be listed as available by our provider. I just wanted to pass that along to everyone and advise you to check your normal station for Jayhawk Network as the game may be televised but not listed.

  • Wiggins “Era” Begins?

Seems more like a 2-day trip to Disney World than an era. Lots of anticipation, waiting in lines for a few short thrills, and before you know it you’re waving a tearful goodbye to Mickey out the back window of the station wagon…

  • “Asked to identify the single-most important thing he has learned heading into his KU basketball debut — today’s 7 p.m. opener against Pittsburg State — the soft-spoken Canadian said simply: “Always running the floor. Always running the floor.””

He should add a bit to that mantra: “Always running the floor and focusing on how I get involved in every play.”

What I took from seeing him live at the Saturday scrimmage was how much energy he wasted without contributing something. He’ll figure it out… and when he does, all of college basketball will feel it!

    Rock Chalk!
