Marcus Garrett Signed

Isn’t it odd how Travis T. Ford can get the best big man in Illinois, but Bill Self can’t?
Travis T. Ford > Bill Self?
NOT!
END THE APPARENT EMBARGO!
Free Bill Self!
-
He’s really selling the stay local angle with these Louis kids. Any top big man that plays for him is career suicide. Too bad for them

It seems like one call from Tar Black would change the outcome.

“Tar” Black? Freudian slip?
-
ive always wondered if “Freudian slip” were a Freudian slip itself for Freud’s fascination with women’s lingerie!
Did you know that Freud only had around 10 patients and never successfully resolved/cured a single patient.
And his hypotheses of human personality have largely been refuted?
He is apparently a phenomenon of the nexus of public relations and states hope to break down legacy cultural value systems to help the state assist assist the private oligarchy in social engineering a nation more responsive to rationales deemed useful in the industrial era; I.e., a technique for defining those that resisted migration to tiresome, unfulfilling and disposable industrial roles, as discontents requiring "treatment. Note: not entirely sure of this since I have done farm work and disliked it, but it definitely coincides with the rise of unions, and corporations and state ruthlessly successful efforts to destroy unions.
I have never been able to verify this, but have been told a time or two by some reasonable persons that the role of Freudian talk therapist was also fairly widely appropriated at times by state intelligence among non Roman Catholic elements of culture, as a secular means of gaining confessional information among targets.
And that’s the rest of the story!
Goooo…day!

Looks like he might be considering Saint Louis. The weasel is up to tricks again.
According to multiple reports late Tuesday and Wednesday, five-star East St. Louis big man Jeremiah Tilmon — the No. 1 player in the state and No. 25 in the nation, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings — will not sign a national letter of intent with the Illini during the early period, which ends Wednesday.
The 6-foot-10 Tilmon, who committed to Illinois in July, has not publicly decommitted, and the Illini still could sign him in the spring period, which begins April 12. Some speculation has Tilmon taking a look at Saint Louis, where Belleville Althoff guard Jordan Goodwin — a top Illinois target — signed Wednesday
Ford is killing it. After being fired for major suckitude too. Funny.
As for Garrett, this kid is a steal. Probably top 25 if he played on the shoe circuit.
Cliffs: His HS coach is good friends with Self and Snacks. Goes back to Self’s OSU days. After the staff saw him play, they made him a major priority. Self feels he is versatile and can play any perimeter position in his system. Can fit in with any other perimeter players due to said flexibility. Long, athletic, talented. Will be a major player for KU in time. Self appreciates Garrett’s loyalty to KU.
-
I fully agree about Garrett, I think his talent is similar to Vick. 2 guys that just didn’t get the notice on the shoe circuit but are players. One of the best attributes about Marcus is he’s a leader, he has that unselfish trait you look for in a floor general. His height for the position is crazy. Other than Sexton, I don’t think there was another PG that fit KU better. And at his size you can play him off guard and hope his offensive game continues to improve as has been the word about his game. I see Devonte Graham 2.0 in this guy, maybe not the shooter devonte has become but its hard not see the rest of his game comparing well
-
Before I got to the next line I was thinking Vick is not as good of a shooter as Graham. That’s okay though, his shot is improving and it isn’t broken.
Vick was an interesting recruitment. Another Self decommit grab. Was going to SMU as of this time that year. Basically of the vaunted back court this year Josh Jackson is the only one that was a plan A. People freaking out about recruiting (not saying anyone here is) should consider that.
-
Vick was also supposed to be a 2017 guy, but graduated early and KU was lucky to be 1st in line for him. Larry probably helped us in that one.
-
Definitely helped by Larry. And UK was involved but idk to what extent (not sure if he could have committed there). I know for a fact KState wanted him, but LOL if it’s a choice between KU and KSU.
-
Hopefully there will be someone like Vick available in the spring. I am concerned that we need immediate help rather then talent you have the ability to develop without pressure

I think, despite the attitude issues that Preston would be a good get. I feel like where the teams needs the most immediate talent is in the 4 spot. I think the staff can get by moreso with just developmental guards, though Duval would be quite the grab and hopefully the staff gets more involved with MJ Walker.

@BeddieKU23 Marcus has some physical advantages over Devonte. That doesn’t mean he’s a better player by any means, but Devonte’s flat best he’s got is located down in his heart- he wills himself to be amazing in the biggest games. Garrett’s HUGE advantage is he is a physical mismatch - a freak of nature with a crossover dribble. My theory about KU freshmen guards are they evolve much faster than our bigs, partly because their bodies don’t have to change in order to be effective on the court. I think Garrett starts from day 1. I think he will be a prolific point guard- one to remember, for sure.
-
@KUSTEVE add him to Vick, Malik and Dok and that is a very solid lineup

He won’t start if: Graham stays or KU gets Young/Duval. That said I don’t think any of those are likely and Garrett will likely end up starting.

Yep. Very good core.

Garrett lead Dallas Skyline to a victory over Trae Young and Norman North. Every last KU coach was on hand. Haha.
-
@jaybate-1.0 perhaps the cocaine tempered his effectiveness in patient care.
-
@BShark Any links to the game or box score? I couldn’t find it.

Unfortunately no. Site for the event isn’t really helpful but: http://www.thanksgivinghoopfest.com/home/
I was getting game info off twitter, there were people at the event tweeting.
Garrett had foul trouble first half, all 21 of his points were in the 2nd half. Young had 33 in the loss.

@KUSTEVE Found this in Dallas Morning News
Kansas signee Marcus Garrett and Skyline headline Day 2 at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest
Skyline’s Marcus Garrett (23) drives to the basket as Norman North’s Winston Nelson (15) defends during the Thanksgiving Hoopfest high school basketball tournament at Sandra Meadows Arena on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, in Duncanville, Texas. (Smiley N. Pool/The Dallas Morning News)
By Randy Jennings, Special contributorContact Randy Jenningson Twitter:
DUNCANVILLE – With future college coach Bill Self watching courtside, Skyline’s Marcus Garrett wanted to stay calm.
"I didn’t want to try and do too much,’’ said Garrett, who signed with Self and Kansas a couple of weeks ago.
The versatile 6-6 senior did plenty, helping Skyline defeat Norman (Okla.) North 66-55 at the eighth annual Thanksgiving Hoopfest Saturday at Sandra Meadows Memorial Arena.
Garrett finished with 20 points and played a strong floor game, in the process putting a smile on Self’s face.
Skyline (4-0) is No.13 in the Texas Association of Basketball Class 6A ranking.
Garrett, listed as a point guard, can play any position on the court including post, according to Skyline coach Paul Graham. He causes match-up problems for defenders.
"If they guard him with a smaller guy, we post Marcus up,’’ said Graham. "Against a bigger guy, he goes around ‘em. He’s a different kind of player.’’
Garrett said either plan of attack is fine with him.
-
Nice thanks for posting.
The staff taking Garrett when they knew it would likely put them off of Troy Brown said a lot to me.
-
Interesting point.
I don’t take drugs.
But mind altering drug usage was apparently very widespread before, say, 1930 when criminalization of substances increased, and it appears culture got on as well without the criminalization as with. We sure as hell didn’t used to need so many persons imprisoned and were a much freer country, when mind altering drug usage was largely tolerated. And crime is greater now by most measures.
I have always been intensely anti-addictive drug decriminalization, but I increasingly wonder if drug criminalization were just the first big failure of the generally disasterous attempts by private oligarchy to use the state to social engineer us for the too narrow interest and net benefit of private oligarchy.
Not ready to come out for total decriminalization of all mind altering and/or addictive drugs but thinking about it for the first time ever.
There sure was a lot more invention going on back at that time.
Today we get whatever the rational grind of science can give us, but our drug denied inventors are kind of fallow.
Maybe we would have a lot more inventors with drugs more available, as they once were.

Jacobs looks like a top 20 player to me. Highlights are great and all and they highlight what he does well. Would love to see a game of his in full to get a feel for what type of floor leader he is.
If he gains a few inches over the next few years look out. I hope he stays solid to KU but you always wonder if kids will stick 3 years later when all the top kids around him are getting exposure and recruiting media constantly after you…
-
Maybe didnt sign Illinois bigman due to Cliff Alexander saga, which of course was no fault of Self’s nor KU’s.

A couple things on this. He like everyone else thought Ayton was going to KU when he first committed to Illinois. He knows Doke will be at KU next year, and starting. Illinois made him a priority early.

The talk currently is that he is McD AA good. Wouldn’t be surprised if he is top 20 especially if he gets a bit taller. If any of his games are streamed online, I will be sure to post about it.
Basketball decommits are pretty rare. Sherron will stay in his ear. He is a KU fan like Mitch and BMac, tweets about KU all the time. And tweeted about KU well before he committed. Illinois actually got him in for a visit first iirc. I’d be very surprised if anything changes.
-
I hope he sticks, looks like exactly the type of PG KU will need.

I’m just not worried at all. If this were football it’d be a different story though.

Having watched Tilmon I don’t think he was a starter as a freshman at KU but at a place like Illinois he would be and they obviously made him their top priority. Tilmon would have been a nice 4 yr guy
I expect his situation isn’t over though with Groce likely gone the way they are already losing. He will look at his options and I expect KU and Saint Louis will be after him.
-
@BeddieKU23 Yea if he doesn’t right the ship and get them into the tourney he will more likely than not be gone.

Right, would have been a nice program big like Tyler Davis (who said KU was his dream school). Hindsight is 20/20 but man, I’d sure love Tyler Davis on the roster instead of having signed Diallo that year.
Correct on Groce, he has to produce results this year.
-
@BShark If it were football we might not be in a position to have to worry. Unfortunate, but true.

Good connection between Davis & Tilmon. Davis is one that got away and is a result of our recruiting strategy. This year we went Ayton, lost, and thankfully got Preston ( if his concerns end up being nothing).

This is why I was so happy when the staff took Garrett early. Don’t be afraid to take good players early and stick to your evals. It’s a bit of a double edged sword because you want top talent, but OADs don’t add a ton for the program. Slow rolling good players has been an issue, a bird in the hand I say. Not saying it will happen, but I really hope the staff doesn’t slow roll Leech in favour of Barrett. Leech is too damn good, gotta take him if he wants to commit.
-
Absolutely agree about Garrett and Leech. Leech is a guy you get today. Barrett is a great talent but is probably a guy that slow plays it like every top recruit. Garrett has the chance to play the 1-3 positions, making him that hybrid guard that you can stick anywhere on the perimeter. I have no doubts that Garrett will be one of our best players by year 2, he just has that game that translates in the KU system.
