OK yes I know but/ recruiting

  • @kjayhawks

that is if he ends up being eligible. This one will drag on well past his commitment/signing date

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Fully agree, if Mason keeps this up definitely gives Duval & Young something to think about…

@BShark hey thanks, can I ask where did you hear that? just wondering, I know from on here I had seen probably this weekend. - -I’m still even with every thing in question I hope we can get him to predict here - now him actually stepping foot here - -that’s a different story - - let’s just hope EVERYTHING pans out- - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

All over the internet now but originally per Paul Biancardi.

After the 2 games Mason has had, what pg wouldn’t want to play and develop here?

    Trae noticed.

Billy Preston is set to announce this afternoon. I think we get him, we have been on him since 8th grade and he had good reviews after his late night trip. Just a reminder he is a 6"9 , 220 pound PF ranked 8th in the 2017 class. Knowing that we likely only lose LL and possibly Bragg down low it would be nice to get him and spend time recruiting guards.

Seen it mentioned by most of the KU crootin experts that the visit was a HUGE hit for Preston and that KU really starting gaining momentum from that point. Let’s hope it does in fact lead to a commitment.

    Bragg is gone 99%.

  • @BeddieKU23 Very true its a tough line to have to walk, recruit the best players regardless or just the ones that will forsure be able to play.

It’s what KU has to do to be able to compete with UK and Duke at this point. I think we have a lot of evidence for that at this point. Recruiting is cyclical though, even if Self has burned a couple bridges (by all accounts he has).

  • @kjayhawks

Definitely, nobody knows what will happen with him. The risk of being burned by him is there.

The potential reward is probably outweighing the unknown right now. Everybody wants top 10 talent, we’ll see whether he actually gets to show it off

  • the deeper reward could be in swaying Duval to join who just happens to be buddy’s with Preston. I think that’s the real prize KU might be after

  • Billy Preston should be ku

  • hes a jayhawk!!! for now at least

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Literally the exact thing I’ve been thinking. Bill hasn’t had a top PG since Sherron. And to think that he almost got that 5’10 fat midget to become an All-American should tell these guys everything he needs to know.

P.S. I love Sherron so please don’t blow me up about it. Heart of a friggen lion.

Edit: He was an all american. I lost train of thought halfway through. I mean to the NBA.

  • @Kcmatt7 Yep, and Sherron couldnt stick in the big leagues. Frank can stick, if he gets the right situation.

Side note: I wasnt worried about Preston. Thats not to say I was predicting anything. i just dont worry about recruiting. Why? Because, its Kansas. Sure, we dont have the “dump trucks” lining up like at Duke and Kentucky but still, KU is KU and always will be.

We havent started a season 0-2 since 40+ years ago.

We have the longest streak in the NCAA with conference titles and NCAA tourney appearances.

We have the 2nd most wins.

We have the best head coach.

We have decades of tradition that nearly all the other programs not named UNC or Kentucky can compare with. Yes, I left Duke out purposely because Duke is secondary on the food chain. Duke came after KU, UNC, and all the basketball coaching, playing trees that sprouted from KU. Heck even Indiana and UCLA are second class to KU.

  • @Kcmatt7 Yep, Steph Curry

  • Syracuse just got Ayton’d. Quade Green to UK. Now let’s go get Trae Young.

  • @BShark why would a future NBA’er want to go to Syracuse?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Well they were recruiting him for over two years.

  • Something about this entire situation just screams to me that Young will still be considering UK as his favorite until others come off the board. UK is going to lose its only guards, they will need Young still. Green is more a true point, Young is more Steph Curry. Both are high scoring kids that can run the team but could easily co-exist.

I know it sounds like popular belief that this would eliminate UK but there is zero information stating so just speculation. Does it help KU & OU, certainly but this is UK we are talking and with the way their roster is setup they are going to need all the guards they can get.

  • somebody help me interrupt this - – per Eric Bossi " Kansas basically running " do him" right now - - talking about Trae - - - what the hell is that surpose to mean?

Also love how Billy is throwing out on his twitter already encouraging KU fans saying you think we can get Trevon to come on board too? - -Doesn’t hurt him and Billy are buddies Hopefully he is talking to Duval, I guess they had been talking some where along the line of possibly playing together - - we shall see - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Pretty much. UK’s entire team is leaving. They need at least two more guards/wings. We definitely want them to get Hami as well. It boils down to does Young want to play PG/run the team. He won’t do that now at UK. Self has told him he would at KU.

  • @BShark

BINGO!!! He can run the team at OU as well.

Trae’s game might be better being the “other” ball-handling guard like Devonte. His shooting range is off the charts and I think you have to maximize that part of his game. I was impressed watching him this summer on MOKAN how he ran his team, very good handles and vision with a stacked roster.

  • @BeddieKU23 You are absolutely not crazy for thinking that. Here is what I am seeing for UK next season as far as guards.

    • PG - Green, Briscoe (?), SAG
    • SG - Diallo (All but assumed he will be there)
    • SF - ?

So your assumption that there is room for Trae is 100% accurate. Especially when ours could easily break down:

    • PG - Devonte (?), Garret
    • SG - Vick, Newman
    • SF - Svi (?)

It honestly doesn’t look good. And if we don’t land Duval or Young and Devonte bolts, we are going to be forced to hit the transfer market HARD. Or offer some sub-100 players. And that is just never ideal despite our recent success with two of those type of guys. I just can’t understand how these elite PGs don’t look at what Bill has done with Dee Brown, Deron Williams, Chalmers, Sherron, Frank, Devonte, and Tyshawn and wonder how good he could make them. I mean he has as good of a history with PGs as Cal or K do. Just kind of makes me scratch my head.

  • @Kcmatt7

I don’t get it either why we haven’t landed more “elite” guards. Reputation maybe for how we use our bigs. Its like how Washington gets NBA level guards but can’t win games. How you play the game sticks with these kids. Self has finally opened up his structure the last 2 years so maybe the future gives these kids a different perspective

Briscoe almost left last year and the way he’s improved he’s likely gone. SAG looks more like a development type then a OAD type they usually start. Cal is still selling starters minutes next year at PG/SG. If Diallo doesn’t go pro, since he’s eligible that would be big in crunching the minutes for another PG like Young

  • @Kcmatt7

Fwiw Diallo can and may go directly to the NBA.

  • @BeddieKU23 Yea going to be a crazy Spring I feel like. Way too much up in the air for everyone.

  • I’m banking he goes to the pro’s, who turns down that opportunity? He will at least test the waters and get info, Maker going #10 or whatever it was just paves the way. NO risk in trying, all the reward

  • Oh and getting Duval would be a great way to help dispel the Self and PGs thing. Duval will succeed anywhere.

  • Trae Young

  • Wooten has decided to enroll in college at semesters end. KU has a Scholly. Hopefully we get this guy

Do any of the others in his final 5 have an open scholly? I honestly have no idea.

  • @BShark

Everyone but Cal it looks. Looks like they all have 1 spot open.

Better question is has he taken any visits to those other 4

  • @BeddieKU23

“I don’t get it either why we haven’t landed more “elite” guards. Reputation maybe for how we use our bigs”

Think about it… if I am recruiting a guard and competing with Kansas… isn’t the first thing I say to a guard recruit is… “So I see you have Big-Man-U on your list.”

  • The Selby situation really hurt.

  • @BShark

I respectfully disagree. First Selby did not play 9 games at the beginning of the season which placed him way behind other players and when he played he did relatively well but it was obvious that he need an extra year. He chose to leave early and even with all this baggage he was select ed in the second round. He was co-MVP with Damian Lillard in the Summer League but was never able to stay with any one team long enough; I will guess that other issues and not talent prevented him from reaching his potential, and I don’t believe there is anything KU did or did not do that could have changed this. He has been removed over 5 years from KU and most of the younger players probably do not know much about him if at all. BTW, he is playing in the Turkish Basketball League.

  • The problem is you are using common sense. That is null and void in recruiting.

  • Snacks is checking in on 2018 studboss Quentin Grimes tomorrow. Stay on this kid, show him the love.

  • @BShark We will have so many minutes open after next season. Svi and DG for sure gone. Vick and Newman could just as easily be gone too. That would leave just Garrett on the roster.

Going to need a BIG class in 2018.

  • @BShark

I hope this guy is an early commit

  • @Kcmatt7

Definitely, we need to recruit at least 2 more guards/wings this class. Young or Duval is a good start. The other is definitely going to be someone not on our radar right now. A transfer guard would also be a priority

  • @BeddieKU23

That would be fantastic. Being a Texas kid though, just landing him at all would be nice.

And yeah that’s why I prefer Young to Duval. Young is also a 5 star recruit for 2018 most likely…

  • @BShark

I agree, getting anyone from Texas would be a start. Garrett hopefully helps the momentum. If we get Grimes, I wonder if that would help with Liddell, I know Howard is keeping track of him.

  • @BeddieKU23

They all count obviously but Self is pretty close to Garrett’s high school coach Paul Graham (KC area guy originally, was an assistant with Self at OSU). The bright side there is if they produce more D1 talent it’s pretty likely the kid ends up at KU I would think.

Grimes is a great get for sure, if he helps with Liddell that would be fantastic. Liddell is a stud. Looks like AZ, UK and UT are all heavily involved in that one.

  • @BShark

Shaka has had plenty of talent at Texas and so far has nothing to show for it and some pretty embarrassing losses to boot; how long before it starts hurting recruiting? I am sure…what’s his name…wishes he was playing at KU.😄

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Jarrett Allen? Probably. And Shaka is doing himself no favours right now that’s for sure.

Lots of really good Texas talent tbh, ends up all over UK, Duke etc… Randle and Bolden in particular even though KU is and will be fine were tough ones where KU was on them early and couldn’t close.
