@TYOHawk WTF are we doing? Just waiting on Stokes? He gets the big bag if he commits, but we don't have anything left for a quality 5? And if he doesn't - what then? I guess we would have money to pay for a good big, but there are only a couple left. And then we would still need a scoring wing? Anyone left worth pursuing? Any dollars to pay them? 80%+ of the top transfers have already committed - the talent pool is diminishing quickly. Blackwell to Duke today (which also is getting Ngongba back and probably Sarr, along with the top incoming class). Muruaskas to ASU today. Brown to UNC today. What do we have today - announcement that a minor bench guy for USC might be visiting?1?

After today, it doesn't matter to us if guys testing the NBA waters come back to school unless they are already in the portal because it will be with their current team.

Stokes will get about 1/3 of the total budget, so to build some depth you have to moneyball the roster some. Assuming that gets done, as it should, the wing spot will be set. Miller can play 1-3, Kohl can play 2-4, so that’s a solid bench on the perimeter. We’re pursuing a Landen Lucas type role player at the 5. There’s plenty of scoring punch 1-4, just need a garbage man who can rebound, protect the paint, and occasionally score. I’d like to have another veteran ball handler off the bench. But a core 8 of Kinney Blyden Stokes Dawes Reeves Miller Rosario Mbiya is really solid. Then a deep bench of the other frosh and another veteran guard.

That all sounds fine but it sounds like we are putting all our eggs in the Stokes basket when he hasn't committed anywhere yet

For some reason our basketball culture has been damaged. Why don't we have situations like this:

I smell a run! (better buy more toilet paper)

The idea that Stokes would get 1/3 of the budget - and we don't know yet whether he commit - and that is a formula for success is absurd. Is Stokes a guy that can lead you to a title by himself? How did that work out with Peterson? Do we have any idea whether he can make his teammates better, none of whom from the list above have played for winning college teams or actually demonstrated they can play at a high level in the P5 (Dawes is on the edge). Stokes isn't Peterson and isn't close to Flagg, who had another top 5 lottery pick on the the team, and it still didn't win a title.

UConn (and maybe UF) are the models now - do we have the mix of size, defenders, scorers, and shooters to compete with the best? Sadly, that lineup doesn't seem to come close to what Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, UConn, Duke, Illinois and a few others already have in place....

@DCHawker well he’s not going to have to do that by himself. Dawes can be an All Big 12 type player, Blyden is an absolute flamethrower from deep, and there’s an outside chance we get Mel back. There’s still some yet to play out

All the DP detractors might look back at him more fondly as less productive millionaire freshmen follow.

Breaking: Kansas big man Paul Mbiya will return to Kansas for his sophomore season, source tells
                              @247sports

“I’m staying at the University of Kansas.
This decision comes from the heart. Through every challenge, every doubt, and every moment of adversity, I’ve grown stronger. I’m not running from anything — I’m embracing it.
I want my coaches, my future teamates, and the fans to know that I believe in this journey. I believe in who I am becoming. I’m a special player, not just because of what I do on the court, but because of what I stand for.
No pressure can break me. No obstacle can stop me. And no amount of money will ever define me or buy my values.
                              You can’t buy heart.
                              You can’t buy loyalty.
You can’t buy what’s inside me.”

                              I know who I am.
And I know what I came here to do.

                              Rock Chalk forever.

That is good to hear, when most players have no loyalty to where they play. I hope he makes great strides and him and Rosario become all time favorites. If Mel could come back, that would be awesome to have the “dawg” on the team to have the leadership.

Mel coming back would be huge. Kinney wouldn’t have to start that way. He could be a very valuable 6th man.

I am grateful for this time at KU, but historically it seems we could and should do better than Melvin as a starter.

We will always wonder what if he was healthy or just shut it down. I think both scenarios may have been shown better results unfortunately. I still have big question marks on how he will be at the next level. Hes not Cooper Flagg or even close to him IMO. Give me a freshman that is able to play all year and make the team around him better over DP all day everyday.

I personally don’t see Reeves starting at least not from day one anyways. But I also don’t see Kohl coming off the bench at all. Give him an offseason in the gym and he will be tough to keep out of the line up.
