Love the kids energy and has played well at times, going to be a solid 4yearplayer. I think we all agree there will be a drop off though for sure at the 5 next season. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY It would be interesting to see Self revisit that comment. Could have been true at the time of the question. Dave has improved a lot since his freshman year no doubt. When comparing him to Sr Azubuike it becomes clear how far away he still is from being that kind of dominate force for KU. Doke was half the player he was as a Soph. I don’t know if we will see a big impact the game at the level Doke has been all season long. It’s really remarkable to see what he’s been able to do.

I don’t think he does with the recruiting class he has coming in. He signed 5 Top 50 kids. 4 of them made the All American Game. The team he has just doesn’t have it. His best player is meant for the NBA. Usually he has guys that are College Players and buy in.

  @Kcmatt7 I’ll agree about his poor choice of words but if consistency and post season success mean anything Belein is superior to Weber IMO and it’s not close. Weber has a .03 better win percentage (could be lower by seasons end) than Belien, but he has inherited much much better programs than Belien IMO. Most of Weber’s post season success came in his first two seasons at Illinois with a Sweet 16 and a National runner up. If you take those outta the equation he has made it passed the first weekend a grant total of 2 times (1 KSU, 1 SIU) in 20 seasons of coaching (22 years is his total with the 2 at Illinois). Weber in 22 years at this level mostly at a power 5 school has a total of 4 sweet 16s, 2 elite eights and 1 FF. Belein in 27 years has made 7 sweet 16s, 5 elite eights and 2 FFs. In the regular season I’d say they are even, Weber has more conference titles but Belein I believe was hitting his stride in Michigan. That’s why I was shocked to see him leave. He had 9 tournament appearances in 12 years and was a staple in the upper half of the B10. Weber will most likely 5 for 8 for the NCAA tournament after this season at KSU and will hopefully finish dead last in the B12. I’d say Belein is average and hit his stride late, Weber can’t do jack didily crap with his own guys. I’d say he’s slightly below average because of his lack of postseason success even counting some of his best years with teams some else built. Arguably four out of five of Weber’s best years are his first two with KSU and Illinois teams that were lead by someone else recruiting and development for a few years. Without those he’s pretty much a laughing stock IMO. That’s why it was so shocking to see them tie Tech the title last season, I’ll bet that never happens again. Glad niether one is our coach at the same time lol.

  Yeah, I see intentional fouling as more of a loophole than a part of the game. Of course I see the “improve your free-throw shooting” angle. And yes, it CAN make the game more exciting at the end. And yes, we most likely wouldn’t have had the title in '08 if we couldn’t foul. Although I remember it working against us as well (e.g. against Michigan several years ago in the Sweet 16). At the end of the day, rules aren’t meant to encourage fouling. Especially when it’s meant to stop the clock and trade 2s for 3s. So the loophole needs to be closed.

  The disdain for OU and Tubbs was right there with Mizzou for several years. The 88 championship was such sweet justice after the rivalry became bitter. It seemed to deflate OU and put KU on a trajectory that we continue to enjoy today. Wayman Tisdale was the one that got it started for me… then Stacy King, Mookie Blaylock… the Grant brothers… they were just stacked and had such attitude. Over the years, I have grown to respect some of those players a bit (Tisdale RIP). But less so for Tubbs, and that video illustrates why. It’s vintage Tubbs. He and Norm Stewart earned their place in basketball purgatory, as far as I’m concerned.
