  @HighEliteMajor Yeah, 2011-2012 TRob was as good as we’ve seen under Self. Simien had some big years the first two seasons Self was here too. I do think he needed some time to develop, to get used to not fouling and to not be so sped up. I’m sure that would have came sooner had he started his sophomore year, but hard to argue having both the Twins in there.

Do you rather have a solid, steady, experienced senior or an exceptional but very inexperienced/immature freshman?” That used to be the question… until it was realized that we’d also have to endure several years of developmental seasoning on the players not quite ready for prime time. I think Self has adjusted to a philosophy of mixing both kinds of players. He is trying to put the best team he can on the floor, with a bit of extra consideration for the value of having some developmental players. This is an uncommon year by all standards. Regardless who we signed, we were starting over on our starting 5. And now we are challenging for #10 in the B12 and a possible March run because we signed several players capable of OAD. As excited as we all are this year… just wait until next year! Most of our team will return with a year of seasoning… and then we sprinkle in a few potential OADs who can contribute immediately!

  @drgnslayr Nicely done. I think Ellis will do fine; his shots were not falling in the last game so he concentrated on rebounding and did that very well. As you said, getting the hot players in foul trouble is one way to go about it. Just have Tharpe and Mason and Selden and Green drive constantly against Kane, Ejim and Niang and 8 out of 10 times they will get a foul. If Kane is in foul trouble early, ISU will fold like cheap suit.Kane is the key player for ISU followed by Ejim and Niang which can be trouble, since they are tall players that can extend the defense and hit the three. If KU can control these 3 players, it should win easily by double figures.

  @wissoxfan83 I watched a good portion of the game and looks like Kentucky’s defense is not ready for prime time. They were often caught all bunched up on the middle with no one guarding the wings. All in all, Kentucky looks more like a team playing the first week of the season and relying heavily on individual performances rather than playing as a team. Young seems to be the only Kentucky player that had a decent game. Cauley-Stein is softer than a marshmallow.

  @jaybate 1.0 - When I was 11, after moving to the Ozarks Mountains, the only time our TV had a clear picture was during the daytime. On the weekends, in the winter my brothers and my father would watch the NBA. Gola was the shooting guard on the Philly team with Wilt during his first year in the league. They lost to the Celtics that year in the Finals. On a team that had Wilt, there had to be an outside threat to balance the team. The Celtics had Russell and Cousey and were more like the Jayhawks today with Red’s cigar instead of the Rock Chalk chant when a victory was eminent. later, Cy Hugo Green played with Wilt and had a two handed jump shot. Clyde Lovelette had the best hook shot in basketball until Lew Alcinder came along. Petit led the NBA in scoring that same year with the best jump shot ever. About 30 pts per game.

  This is a good chance to work on perimeter defense. ISU could not hit the broad side of a barn in Hilton. Let the Bigs do their big things and guard the three. Anyone know the line in Vegas on this game?

  @drgnslayr Believe! I say a little prayer every day to make it happen. I really do think your Kobe metaphor is crucial for Andrew’s brain trust to buy into. If Andrew were to retool along the Kobe model, there would be no reason not to come back. Injury risk down in his extra year of college. Injury risk waaaaaay down for his NBA career. With a Kobe style ball handling and shooting, then all of the incremental edges he seems to hold over Kobe in terms of length and athleticism would become next level advantages for a career. All this takes is belief in Andrew’s capacity to redirect his game beyond the rather raw leaping and bouncing athleticism he shows effortlessly now into a polished craft refined to a highly specified role ideally suited to the L. P.S.: I meant no disrespect to Selden for forgetting him. I would foresee him coming back and splitting with Oubre. Deck. Stacked. Pot of gold won.

  @bskeet I just can’t agree on Ohio State or North Carolina. All of Ohio State’s wins and one loss were against teams outside the top 50; The do not have a single signature win against a top 50 team as per Sagarin and Ken Pom. I believe their record was good at one point because they had such weak schedule, and now that they are playing stronger conference teams, they are losing regularly, North Carolina is the most dysfunctional/bi-polar team I have seen in a long time. They can beat MSU, Kentucky and Louisville and then lose at home to a no-name team. They are currently 10th in the 15 team ACC that is projected to send 5 teams to the dance. If the tournament were to start now, they would not even make it. If by a miracle they do, I hope they play in KU’s brackets as Coach Self has Coach Williams number.
