  One of the announcers at the KU-UTEP game said…at this point Wiggins is just an athlete with no basketball skills, which is an extreme and incorrect exaggeration…you can take it with a grain of salt because he also said when KU was ahead by 5 and 1 free throw left…if he makes this free throw it will be a two possession game; really? Since when a 5 point lead is not a 2 possession game?

  I disagree with the idea of switching personnel just because the supposed stars are not performing as expected. I think it is better to push the stars to higher heights than trying to replace them with lesser talent. If the less talented players have the experience to compensate their physical limitations like Moody, I’d take that. But at this point Landen has no experience and physically is no match to Black, Embiid, or Wiggins. Even Selden at 6’6" 220lb should be able to post up and play as a short 4 on the college level. I don’t believe we need more green wood to take up the floor. Their chance is in their Junior or Senior years. I believe Lucas belongs to the bench this year, and we need Embiid, Black to learn to play hard without fouling. And Traylor has not played with the maturity level he is supposed to have this season. After all, he has worked with Coach Self for three years already. So I guess I wouldn’t be sorry if Lucas takes Traylor’s minutes.

  Hey… Landen gave some positive minutes in the loss to Villanova. I’m glad to see him earn some real game minutes… and I hope he continues to pick up a few quality minutes. It will do him good to earn the experience and will help drive him to improve more so he’ll earn even more of those minutes! Rock Chalk, Landen Lucas!

  I’ve got the game yet to watch (in full) on someone’s DVR. Will see it tomorrow. But I did see part of the game on the internet via the link someone posted on here. I just caught a few minutes of the second half. I recall watching our fast break defense collapse. Someone on WF dribbled the ball, coast to coast, right by Perry (who had his back to the ball and not even watching). Perry actually was a moving screen against his own teammate. That will be a humiliating piece of tape to run back in Lawrence next week when coaches evaluate this road trip. I also watched Mason totally keeping us alive with scoring and energy. I wonder if our second team, in general, can typically match the performance of our first team. As long as Embiid and Mason stay on second team… I hope several of our guys were just sick… because some of the play looked sick. Don’t know if they can improve much playing again today. Seems that we rarely play well on these island pre-conference tourneys. We have to realize how good it is to win games now where we play bad. We don’t get penalized with a loss, but CS collects plenty of ammunition to take into practices and drill these guys. It’s hard to keep a team of young guys paying attention all the time and hustling. It is clear that CS had to pull the starting five in order to get their attention in the Bahamas.

  @ralster - in Salina (Cox) it’s also 78 (2078 HD). I believe the network is NBCSP for those without Cox.

  Impressive piece. Thanks for posting it! I always thought Kentucky vs Louisville was a big ticket every year. But I also heard more of those tickets are scalped than on average, especially in Louisville. The KFC Yum! Center holds 22,800. Imagine going to a game and sitting in a bucket of chicken?! I wonder if the exterior looks like a red and white bucket of KFC? So, I guess, they sell KFC at the concessions. I’ve never been to a game there but I imagine the whole place smells like a KFC trash can and there are chewed up greasy chicken bones scattered throughout the entire building. Strange to have your logo be a bird and the main sponsor makes a living frying birds! Can you believe they named it “KFC Yum?!” Why not call it, “The Finger-Licking Good Arena?” Or how about, “The Extra Crispy Center?” Or best yet, “The House that Colin Cancer Built!” BTW: awesome pic, Kip!

  @justanotherfan. Close but not exactly. Sagarin has 3 ratings including one that is a predictor and you can use whichever one you want depending on what you want to interpret or predict. The Sagarin rankings get better as the season progresses and the teams are linked. If KenPom is a predictor, then why is it has Duke ranked #28 (it was 70 something before yesterday games).? Maybe they are not top 3 but they are definitely top 10 and maybe even top 5. All these rankings are highly speculative and heavily dependent on sample size and, at this point in the season, a more subjective human ranking is probably better. As the season progresses, they all become better with the bigger sample.

  Agreed, I appreciate the kids talent, and games like this are giving a little school some sunshine. I’m okay with that. Maybe that’s how some programs get exposure. Zero d and run and gun. However, and asterisk would be nice-these games are not apples to apples with most ncaa play.
