  @JayHawkFanToo I agree with your post on current pro dynasties. Trying to just buy a winner shows how weak the front office is. SA and NE both have solid front offices. That is the reason they were able to build a winning history. From coaching all the way up. And over time it really gets exposed.

  @JayHawkFanToo “Coach Williams brought KU back to the elite level, so it is hard not to like and respect what he did.” I give that credential to Coach Brown (and Coach/Player Manning). But Roy was valuable, too, as he kept Brown’s momentum here for a long run! It is hard to not like and respect any legacy Jayhawk! “Once a Jayhawk…”

  @Lulufulu85 It’s hard to imagine JoJo still around. With JoJo this team would have to be preseason ranked #1. And lets not forget JoJo’s potential with outlet passes! He is an example of a footer who can run the court like a guard!

  @JayHawkFanToo That may work if the players can be disciplined. But in college, what matters the most is the last game of the season. I can’t see anyone being punished after season is over. I’d say the punishment to the offending team must be in the game and immediate.

  @DoubleDD It is all about the audience you can reach. Duke and UNC have been powerhouse basketball programs and now they are both borderline top 25 in football as well where the KU football programs at the very bottom. More importantly, they are on the East Coast with an audience considerably larger than KU. Look at the K-State program that has been consistently top 20 in football for while now, and they have decent basketball program to boot, and yet they cannot get the contracts lesser programs do. Their audience is tiny compared to other less successful programs and hence they have no big offers. They are competing in very limited market against two other states schools which lessens the market share even further. MU, on the other hand, is located in a state with over twice the population of Kansas and they are the only major school in the state and has the lion’s share of the audience, and thus have a huge advantage. Adidas is huge in soccer (although Nike is gaining) and soccer is the most popular sports most everywhere not called the USA, so a lot of foreign players have a much greater exposure and brand awareness to Adidas than they do Nike. I grew up playing soccer and back then, the Adidas cleats were what every player aspired to get. Its is not really surprising that foreign players favor Adidas.

  @JayHawkFanToo My feelings, too. And I think we should recognize that Svi realizes his best path so he must be an intelligent guy who has good basketball IQ. That should be a big help to Kansas basketball!

  I’m a medium soccer fan. I embrace the World Cup and some big games here and there, but don’t follow teams with regularity. I started getting interested in it while living abroad. Had I not lived abroad I would have never embraced the game. But I see a major reason why it hasn’t caught fire in America like it has in other places. We have so many sports going on that it has to fight for space. And scoring is low and our culture is based on “instant gratification”… meaning… we prefer games with lots of scoring, lots of highlights. I believe baseball would be more popular if it had more scoring, too. If baseball suddenly had more 1-0 games, it would lose crowds. I kind of like the low scoring. It puts emphasis on how important those moments are. I know I get tired of NBA games and some college ball where teams just run up and down and score like a pinball machine. My issue with soccer is all the flopping and whining. It has become a necessary part of the game because you just won’t get the calls without faking a near-death injury. I’ve tried to apply comedy to it all… laughing when guys go down on a flop and they show the replay and the guy was untouched. And then after the call is determined and after he has gone through his wincing painful injury, he bounces up and immediately sprints at full speed without a limp. If they would fix that part of the game (which they have somewhat promised to do, but haven’t) I would become a much bigger fan. But until then, when I want to see acting and drama, nothing beats a Broadway production!

  @approxinfinity Wow! Nice call. P.S. Interesting thread. I was right about “the” Ohio State…and I still want to give Zenger an atomic wedgie; come basketball (and football) season, I think a lot of people will want to join me when we are unable to watch the Jayhawks on TV.

If Perry Ellis is as good as the other top three players and they are for the most part indistinguishable from each other – we will have a great year. That is- If Ellis, Alexander, Selden and Traylor all average between 10-14 points a game, we’ll have the balance that we need from the core. From the guards, we need Mason and Frankamp averaging around 15 pts between them (assuming they split the PG). We need the bench to contribute about 8-10 points a game (Greene, Oubre, Lucas, Mick and Myck) That balanced offensive combination would be adequate to make a run at the NC… IF the shooting defense percent comes back to where it was the last few years.
