  @wissoxfan83 I was looking only at college , but if you want NBA then we can bring Alvin Gentry who is Head Coach of the Suns and was an assistant on the '88 Championship team and Jacque Vaughn who is Head Coach of the Magic. Also R. C. Buford, General Manager of the Spurs, Milt Newton, General Manager of the Timberwolves and Kevin Pritchard, General Manager of the Pacers.

  @Statmachine Try Debbie Crowder: you can stay home in front of the TV and she’ll still give you an “A”. Why didn’t Roy get her named to head the NCAA? he could have gotten the title without playing a game…and no one would have been the wiser, right?

  Thanks for all the info and outlook for this years team. Love small ball, speed can be a killer. Love aggressive teams on both sides of the court. Be it pressing, trapping or just pressure man to man. Offense that runs set plays to get easy looks and penetration from the wings that give you options of a layup, a dish or a kick out plus you can draw fouls and score from the line.   @jaybate-1.0 I like the analogy … but let me twist it a little bit. Last season, sure, it was the X-1. Fast, lean, built for a certain type of flight. The 2014-15 version of the Hawks, though, are more akin to the A-10 Warthog. Conceived and commissioned to do the dirty work. Not pretty, not flashy … simply carnage left in its wake. Mason pilots a Warthog, while Tharpe sat in a malfunctioning X-1. Mason has an attitude and aggressiveness that is befitting of Self-ball. He had the one critical year of seasoning. What I believe we will see from Mason is not only a PG that can penetrate and dish, but a guy that can get to the rim and finish when necessary. When all is said and done, I think we’ll see a guy shooting 37% from 3, nice A/TO ratio, and double figure scoring. Self recruiting a replacement pilot. Lots of motivation to keep the plane in the air.

  @jaybate-1.0 I’ve always wanted to connect the dots between Mayan Mesoamerican ball, modern basketball, and a futuristic game that will meld Meso and modern basketball together to form a futuristic lethal game, with the game results falling back in line with Meso ball and the losers would be decapitated. I’ve walked through this ball court and I could feel a weird energy when standing where all these ball players played (and died). That was the first time I understood what a close friend once told me, “it isn’t a sport unless you can die from playing it.” SOURCE: Wiki Notice the ring on the wall. The ball had to pass through it. Strange similarities to modern basketball.

  @drgnslayr Everything I have read indicates that UT is loaded inside and Turner will play the wing, where he prefers to play anyway, so the chances of him playing the post are slim and the chances of Selden guarding him in the post even slimmer; there is no way that Coach Self wants that match up. Keep in mind that Turner was top 3 in most every ranking so he is no slouch…even if he plays the post…

  @drgnslayr I think there’s a different mindset with this team. After Joel went down last year, our team was never the same. Tough is good. Tough wins games. I didn’t see tough down the stretch last year - we couldn’t dribble, we couldn’t pass, we couldn’t defend. We looked taut as a trot line full of turtles. What I take away from the team photo ( on another thread) is that Perry and Wayne flank Coach. I don’t think that’s by accident. I have hope for Perry, even though he’s been softer than a marshmallow. I think Perry is still growing as a player - i think he will show improvement on both ends of the floor this year, and will probably lead us in scoring. Hopefully, the defense gets better.

  National championship. I think we have all the tools necessary for a title. We will be back to our usual perch among the nation’s best defensive crews, and our offense will have multiple weapons. We should be a better ball handling team, with much better passing than last year. The sky is the limit with this group.

I use defense to push start the rest of my game, to get my intensity level up, to get myself hyped. Getting stops … it’s a great feeling.” … he means what he says. I absolutely love this kid.
