  @drgnslayr ISU is bringing just about everybody back and a few new players including a talented 7’ Greek that had to sit one year. No question that they will start as favorites to win the Conference next season and if Diallo joins the team, they will be a top 3 team, no question about it. IMHO, Niang is good, really, really good and will likely start as pre-season POY in the Conference.

  @Crimsonorblue22 I believe KU basketball players use similar technology when working with Hudy; all the training machines are computerized and keep track of the progress of all players.

  @Crimsonorblue22 I believe the comment is more related to improving his draft status. Obviously he can improve as a player but because of the “tweener” label his ceiling in the draft is limited.

  @drgnslayr Yes…but not all of them have the skill set that Kelly has. He can shoot, he can defend and he can penetrate…now, he still needs lo learn to be ambidextrous and not just a leftie, but other than that, he has the rest of the tools; most of the D-Leaguers do not have the same skill set, in my opinion, of course.

  I’ve been to one NBA game. NY Knicks at Cleveland in January 1997. Patrick Ewing didn’t play (injured). I think Herb Williams from Ohio State back in the 70s started instead–he had to be about 50 years old. The score was 75-65. John Starks and Terrell Brandon chucked about 40 shots between the two of them and made about a third of them. It was the most boring sporting event I’ve ever seen in my entire life. In hindsight, it probably was a lot like some of today’s college games. That was enough NBA for me. I did get to drive through a blizzard to get back to Youngstown, Ohio. So that was kind of exciting.

More eyes, less chance for group corruption due to whistle blowing.” Not feasible for several reasons including the extra time consumed while 6 officials argue it out. I’m thinking the real breakthrough in officiating will come from the technology world. Install many cameras at different angles and build software to have games called electronically. It is the only way to avoid the bias. On the big games, machines can go through extra verification processes to avoid possible corruption. We already count on electronics and technology now. We are here today having this conversation because of the video replay that indicates the game was not called fairly on several calls. Imagine K at half screaming at a computer? That would be as “effective” as all of us screaming at our televisions. No more unfair bias because he is a basketball God! Just mention this idea to him and watch him squirm and spit out a defensive lawyer statement. If we can put a contraption on Mars, we can build a system that removes bad officiating from the game. It will come and be in a constant state of improvement and every year we have the ability to “tweak” the rules to tolerances allowed. This is the only way to truly study “cause and effect” on the game pertaining to tweaks because there will be consistency throughout the game. I’m imaging a piece of very sensitive IR (infrared) equipment that will be able to (finally) accurately assess human contact. The calls won’t be generated off of video input, but infrared input… the heat off of bodies. A much clearer representation of where body parts exist in a spatial world. Meanwhile… the game will always be corrupt because man is corruptible.

  @ralster Oops. I had a whole paragraph for Graham that somehow I forgot to include, but basically I said what you did and although he disappeared on a few games, he played remarkably well for freshman, and as I mentioned before,when you looks the outside shooters that saw significant playing time, he is the only one that can actually create his own shot…something that was sorely needed from the other players.

  @drgnslayr I agree. I personally advocated and thought that Perry would get playing time at the 3 last season but the available personnel…or lack thereof…made it impossible. If he goes to the NBA he will be playing the 3, so it would be nice to give him some time at that position as a reward for his loyalty to the program.

  @JayHawkFanToo Completely agree on Hoiberg. I doubt he ever pursues the NBA. However, if he were asked to coach the national team, he may consider it (I don’t know enough about the current state of his health), and his style of coaching is a better fit than Self’s style. @Lulufulu The University Games team was selected based on colleges that expressed interest in competing. KU was selected over the other applicants. Because this isn’t a team selected from around the country, I think it is a different sort of thing. Perhaps USA Basketball will use this to evaluate Coach Self for a future role, but I think the guys I listed yesterday have the inside track, particularly Donovan. I agree that he and Pop are close, but Jerry Colangelo is currently on the Board of Directors, along with Chauncey Billups and others. They will select a new board after next year’s Olympics, but the current board make up doesn’t give Self the inside track.

  @Lulufulu If that argument is true, then it was unfair when UCLA was just as stacked during their run in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Saying it’s unfair that some schools get better recruits than others just doesn’t hold merit to me. KU gets better recruits than K-State does. Is that unfair to K-State? K-State gets better recruits than UMKC. Is that unfair to UMKC? All of those schools are D1 schools within 150 miles of each other, but their recruiting bases are very different. That’s the nature of college athletics. When you have recruiting, you have a chance to have some teams that have tons of talent and others that can’t ever hope to land that sort of talent. There are 350 D1 teams and about 12-15 truly elite players in each class. Even if every single elite player went to a different school every year, there would be schools that would not land an elite player for over 2 decades. If Bo Ryan is mad that he can’t get elite recruits to Madison, that’s on him as a recruiter.

  @JhawkAlum You are right, he did not even come close to being 15-10 player in the weak Conference USA, there is no way he does that in the Big 12.
