The things you do on offense - shooting, passing, dribbling - are all about having certain abilities. The things you do on defense have some skill elements, but chances are if you have the physical talent to be good on offense, you can carry those same things to the defensive end, and if you work hard, can be a solid defender. Trying harder will make you a better defender. It won’t necessarily make you a better shooter/passer/dribbler. And THIS is why guys ball hog in AAU and summer camps.

  @JayHawkFanToo I would say based on when he signed and his ranking at the time he could easily be the steal of the class. When KU locked him down, he was really only getting looks from some of the Texas schools iirc. If he had waited, he would have got more big offers imo.

  @Kcmatt7 Not exactly. Diallo was allowed to practice with the team in October and before that the number and extent of practices was limited by the NCAA and during the season practices are limited since the players are, at least in theory, still student and school work takes the bulk of their time. At NO and the D-League he was able to concentrate 24/7 to basketball with no other distraction; Diallo was just too raw in term of polished/acquired skills and basketball IQ. It has taken him a year of intense practice to be able to get a couple of minutes of playing time here and there and the additional practice at KU no doubt would have helped but not enough to make him a starter.

  I wonder if running the hi/lo impacts recruiting? I have a hard time seeing us land a 5-star guard recruit if we are going to run the hi/lo most of the time. Unless… Bill has come up with a hybrid hi/lo that keeps the guards involved. Surely we won’t be returning to the old hi/lo where our 3 guards perch on the trey line whipping the ball back and forth waiting for the defense to not flex perfectly.

  @bmensch1 Read Arkansas was in play. Nothing about KU from what I’ve seen. I think that one is something the staff has passed on. If he’s still around after some of the other domino’s fall off the board like Tilmon, Thomas Allen and Svi’s decision maybe they get back involved.

  At least Selden & Withey got playing time for Memphisto in their Gm1, although that team outclassed by Spurs. But Harrison twin isnt going to pass the ball to Wayne. Dont trust those Harrison twins, didnt like their spotty, selfish play at KY, neither did Calipari, who didnt want them back for yr3…

  Just not going to be too harsh on Roy, still like him. I became a KU person in every sense in 1989. Yes that means I missed the whole Danny88NC, sadly. Roy had his quirks, but look at his W/L record. The most impressive thing about UNCs win is this was a very unimpressive UNC team. They almost shot bad enough to lose. We know all about that ourselves. But after all these yrs, Roy brought a team to the F4 capable of grinding out a W. Could care less about zags, yes Few is great, done great job, yada, yada, but they do nothing for me. KY would have beat zags good. Self needs to figure out his system’s O and D yoyo in E8–the fact that its affected several of his rosters points to system level issue. Showing up with a balanced team helps, as well as one D-competent. He had neither this year, statistically speaking. We saw how far “masking weaknesses” got us. Or we can blame fate/bad luck about some wrist ligaments, & Bragg is a convenient scapegoat, even moreso then BGreene or Perry last yr, for those inclined to snipe…

  Philadelphia had a policy that they wanted paid on since Embiid didn’t play a lick his first two seasons. He was paid $9 million for his services. They wanted recouped, but it didn’t happen for them either. Insurance rarely leaves you feeling properly compensated in my opinion.

  If Svi is seriously considering the Euro-ball rout if the NBA doesn’t give him the OK this year, why wouldn’t he just hire an agent, and go for it?. If he doesn’t get the NBA nod, he heads to Europe. “Testing the waters” sounds more like he wants to stay at KU if the NBA thing doesn’t work out this year.

  @approxinfinity You appear to be talking about just “lying”, which is saying one thing when you think something else is true. I agree that is very different from simply changing one’s mind. I always understood hypocrisy to mean upholding a strict moral code while not being faithful to it: it’s the opposite of “practice what you preach”. Hypocrisy is about our acts versus our words, not just our opinions.

  @Blown I’m curious if she is still involved with performance studies? If so… what is she finding? A few years ago, our basketball program decided to study March performances and the possibility to improve in March. I do believe we actually experienced some of their methods to improve March performances this year. Even though we seemed fatigued in our loss to Oregon (which may be for other reasons), we looked very fresh in the 3 games leading up to Oregon and we had a short bench with our guards racking up huge minutes all year. Bill learned some tricks on how to save our legs… reduced contact practices and other restrictions. I think it made a positive impact. More to come in this area soon. One thing we will have to really grasp better next year is Devonte Graham’s cramping issue. There are so many great tips and tricks these days for cramps. Plus… plenty of studies info showing the impact duration and other important tidbits. Unfortunately, one piece of knowledge that has expanded concerning cramping relates to genetic factors. Relationships have been discovered but exact genetic tracings are still in the works.

  @jayballer54 It’ll be ok. I know it’s easier said than done, but try to ignore and move on. If you know you will never see eye to eye it may be best to try to take the high road and just skip some posts. I too can get my feathers ruffled over certain posters. I try like heck not to respond, but from time to time I cave. It’s difficult for me to convey my exact meaning in print. From time to time I come off waaay more abrasive than I intended, sometimes my meaning is completely lost due to my inadequate writing skills. And sometimes I find myself defending a position simply because I don’t like the other arguments presentation- not the principles being argued. I try to get better every day, but some days the patience/understanding isn’t there so I do something else until I’m ready to try again.
