  Another spin on last Saturdays game with WV. - Sports talk said , and let’s look at it like this guys. If you were to tell me before the game Saturday that Ku would only make 3 - - - 3 point shots , and get out rebounded by 14 & right at the same amount of turnovers as West Virginia and we would win - -Like they said give me some of what your drinking , cause would think their would be no way. BUT they was talking about this KU defense, Talking about you give up 53 points and Bill Self had to love it - we all know how you have to be able to play defense for Bill or you don’t play - -or at least a lot. Marcus has become a lock down defender, this defense is going to carry us along ways. - - -Like they said offensively maybe not a jaugernot - -but on the defensive end. - -Just think if this team ever puts together a complete 40 minute game - - LOOK OUT. - - If we can just cut down on the TO’S some and get back to shooting the 3 some better - - LOOK OUT this defense is Legit

  @Crimsonorblue22 if he wasn’t playing how Bill wanted there would be issues. Bill seems happy with him. I’ve said the same about wanting Garrett handling the ball in crunch time though. Exception would be if Dot has been putting the guy guarding him in the torture chamber all game.

I have a couple of friends that went to school there and I just like that it’s essentially a giant HS gym with an old school feel. Most of the other gyms on my personal list are also in the old school arena vibe. Assembly Hall and the Pit just have really great atmospheres, acoustics inside the arenas, and cool architecture so that’s why I have them there.

  @drgnslayr They actually did this in the 2nd half of the Villanova game. Put Dotson on the left side gave him the pass and ran a high ball screen action so he could create, drive or kick. I think this is something film should point out was pretty successful. I think you have to find ways to limit the grind on him whether its letting someone else bring the ball up and giving him different looks like the nova game, off the ball. There is no reason this team and coaching can’t gameplan to have its leading scorer in situations to make a play. Garrett has proven invaluable as a secondary handler and assist man. He is the most improved player on the roster. It looks useful to alternate them on and off the ball

They great a false narrative that there needs to be changes — for these select few. They deserve to be able to make a living when they want to. Leave CBB alone. Please, please, let’s have the NBA prep academies. Competition is what will crystalize the true value of what CBB offers to athletes.

  It’s tough to improve in college, honestly. Devon is exceptionally quick, so when he comes off screens at the college level, if he’s even with a guy, the right play is to continue to the basket for a layup. That’s just the right play. So even though he needs to work on his jumper, because he can beat guys off the dribble with such ease at the college level, the right play is the layup. That doesn’t help him improve his jumper. And that’s the thing with potential NBA guys. The things they do best are more than enough to dominate at the college level. Devon is working on making the correct read, and the correct read more often than not in college will be to continue his drive because he has his man beat on that screen. The NBA doesn’t so much care about college hoops because the guys they are targeting are already better than the collegiate competition. That’s why the G-League has started gaining so much momentum. Teams need a better evaluation tool than the college game offers. Look at the schedule KU has had this season so far. There are maybe four games out of eleven that are worth evaluating as an NBA scout - Duke, Dayton, Colorado, and Villanova. The rest of those games are basically worthless for evaluation purposes at the pro level. @DoubleDD is right. It’s just a different game. Higher talent level. More complex schemes. More demanding overall.

  Results are a funny thing. They don’t always tell the truth. KU has an elite defense this year. Period. No matter the philosophy, KU is long and athletic and disrupting opponents. But that doesn’t mean they couldn’t be better than the results have shown so far this year. We are capable of dominating on defense. We have the depth, length and size to matchup with anyone. The question is, why don’t we do it? I do, to an extent, understand Bill not wanting to change. He wants the other team to adjust to us. The problem with that, is basketball has changed. The three point bombing from 4-5 positions on the floor is changing the game much like the Spread Offense did in College Football. But here we are, and Bill is still trying to run the Wishbone on offense while running a 46 Bear to stop the run. Imagine if Tony Bennett or Jay Wright had our roster. They would have this group with the #1 defense and it wouldn’t even be close. Ochai, Enaruna, Braun and Garrett are all plus rebounders for their position/size. So there is no need to play a true big at the 4. They would pressure the ball relentlessly and force you to drive the ball and shoot a contested layup. They wouldn’t give up 3s. They’d force you to shoot over the wingspan of our 6’5 guards and pressure the hell out of passing lanes so that the offense had no flow and terrible ball movement. The only reason this team isn’t the #1 defensive team in the country right now is Bill Self will not adapt. He may be able to overcome it and win a NC. I believe that. But his stubbornness is one of the roadblocks. He’s a great coach. But he could still be better.
