  @dylans Defense always travels, the ole saying is offense puts fans in the stands and defense wins championships. I think since KenPom has been tracking Adjusted defense every team that has one a title was in the top 20 in that category.

  After the break we will know exactly what the team will be going forward. There is always a big leap forward in cohesion both on offense and defense. The playbook opens up more and options on various movements begin to make sense to the new guys. Help side defense will vastly improve as well. Switching on D is a new concept to most as Dan eluded to in his post game interview (they don’t see that much if at all), so that will improve as well. If the defensive intensity they demonstrated against UConn is sustainable for 6 games in march, it’s over folks.

  @dylans I was always negative towards Shaka because I thought he was just a gimmick-guy who made it too far off just one good tournament run… but after they worked us so easily with x-axis ball I have a new perspective on him. I am wondering if he is an x-axis basketball savant. That game frustrated me as a Jayhawk fan but later I came to the realization his players are taught x-axis… the game is played more horizontally than vertically. Remember back to my x-axis posts? How much of the game is played above the rim? Just a tiny %. Who is one of our worst defenders? Hunter. Because his lateral pursuit stinks.

Jamari in year three will be a fantastic piece of the puzzle. Agree and I think this goes hand in hand with my last paragraph on him.   Well, we pretty much got hosed with our starting two guard spot this season. Y’all know why. The former player would have been a difference maker with speed and quickness on defense. So, we are struggling to make up for that with inexperienced players. Elmarko seems like he has the zip to eventually fill that role. But for the moment I’m totally in Team Jamari camp. I don’t think he’s got the quickness that Elmarko will show at some point, but he’s solid all around, can guard a few spots on the floor. Timberlake gets mop up minutes.

  The interesting thing is we’re a fairly knowledgable group and when things go south like last night we are all honest about it. We’re all not just rah rah love my Jayhawks they can do no wrong type of fans. I yelled at the TV last night frequently at DaJuan. He was bad and I was mad at him. But he’s a dynamic player.

There’s no way to remain compliant while keeping 85 football scholarships and fielding all revenue sports. Gotcha. Cancel all sports then. No big deal. If they’re losing money, there is no point. Money is all that matters about college sports now.

  I noticed that Calipari, like Bruce Weber frequently is on the court while the ball is in play. Coach Self does a nice job of staying on the side line and in the coaching box.

  @kjayhawks I legitimately did regarding Elmarko. He’s only scored off of layups or when he drives. His shot is not great. I didn’t feel like I had to preface it but Juan has to score against the great teams so he might as well get used to it against the bad teams. I agree he won’t look to score at all against chaminade but then the next two games I hope he steps up by hunting his shot from the tip. @wissox - this is the appreciation thread I referenced…feel free to scroll up and acknowledge what I said about Dajuan

  @FarmerJayhawk His jumper looks much more in flow and smooth this season. Last season he had a hitch in it, he’s put some hours in the gym this offseason no question.
