RE: Has Bill Self seen aliens?
I really think Jethro’s on to something here. Besides the Big Dipper this is the most prominent constellation. If you’re uninformed about such topics the constellation is also known as the Hunter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_(constellation)
Since I play a science teacher in real life I should mention one of Orion’s most prominent starts, betelgeuse. It’s huge, like really big. If you dropped it into our solar system one edge would touch the sun and the other would touch Jupiter. Earth to sun is 93 million miles or one Astronomical unit. Jupiter to sun is 5 AU’s. It’s really big. It’s the left foot of Orion and so Hunter has a really big foot. When you see its light it started traveling to earth 500 years ago. Imagine!

RE: Other fantastic news
@mayjay What, is Higgins your son or something? Did he contribute to your election fund?
-
RE: Miami, center of the sports universe
Vegas and Florida in the Stanley Cup finals. Hope the stadium refrigeration systems are working well in arenas with 90’s-100’s outside!
-
RE: Other fantastic news
How does this universally disliked ref have numerous final fours on his resume?
-
RE: Miami, center of the sports universe
Strange world in hockey where the power lies at least professionally in the south. Stanley Cup will likely be Vegas vs. Florida (Miami). Tampa has won multiple cups. Meanwhile original 6 teams like Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, Rangers have gone decades without winning a cup.
-
Miami, center of the sports universe
Two Miami area teams in the Final Four this past season, the Florida Panthers are in the Stanley Cup Finals, and of course Christian Braun is most likely facing the Miami Heat in the NBA finals provided they can finish off the Celtics. All of you KC area fans have had a decent run with the Royals WS win a few years back and the Chiefs, and of course the Jayhawks bookending those wins with titles of their own.
Me? Glad I got the Jayhawks because it’s been slim pickings otherwise.

RE: Give it up for Kansas St.
@DanR I looked up that course in Mofitt. Has high ratings on UDisc.
-
RE: Give it up for Kansas St.
@DanR I had a rotator cuff that only permitted me to do backhand throws. Got hooked, and one day rotator cuff cured, somehow, someway? Tied my career low today, -6!
-
RE: LoCain retirement
He was a great player, hated seeing him against us as a Sox guy and all the other Sox killers the Royals have had through the years.
-
RE: Give it up for Kansas St.
@BShark It’s an interesting list! Weird, but nice that there’s lots of ways to compete for the non athletic types. Glad to see there’s a disc golf championship. I’ve gotten into that sport the last few years.

RE: Give it up for Kansas St.
@nuleafjhawk I don’t think you have to subscribe to twitter to open up a tweet, but they’re the 2022 Meat Evaluation National champion. Pretty heady stuff!

RE: Bye Bye Ernest
Duke had no one enter the portal. I don’t know the answer to the question, but someone here might. Why? And why a bunch for us?
The guys I don’t understand leaving are the guys like Udeh, and Zuby who played regularly as freshmen and had a bright future here.
Although I don’t like to admit it in a case like this I think @mayjay is right. The coaches who adjust and focus on the system guys are the ones who will be the next batch of successful coaches. Something tells me Bill Self is one of those guys.

RE: Jayhawks in the NBA -- 2022
Could be heading to a semifinal round with a Jayhawk on each team. Braun, Grimes, Joel and Wiggins all still in it. 6ers just frittered away a lead laying over dead in last four minutes. They’ll have to win game 7 in Boston to make it.
-
RE: Bye Bye Ernest
@FarmerJayhawk I know I could look it up but who is Grant Nelson? Is he a candidate to come?
-
RE: Bye Bye Ernest
I hate this crap. And if Hunter goes down with an injury at some point we’re basically screwed. We’ve become Kentucky with a bunch of unknowns/sort of knowns.

RE: 2023 Transfer Portal
@coolfool13 The funny thing is I hate what it’s doing to all the non KU’s of the world. We’re gonna get our guys via recruiting and the portal. But some guy ends up at a solid mid major, like Dayton lets say, and plays very well, and suddenly he sees greener pastures and bolts leaving the solid mid major fans sad and depressed.

RE: Oh No Huggins
It’s interesting that language generally is getting more and more coarse. Disney proudly allows the F word on a new movie for the first time. Some singer on Jimmy Kimmell or Fallon, I forget which, says “F… Jesus Christ”, a comment that gets applause and laughter and no rebuke from the host of the show, even though nothing makes my skin crawl more than when I hear that phrase used. If I objected I’m sure some would tell me to put on my big boy pants or maybe even say the same thing to me in return. Yet some language, like what Huggins used, is increasingly parsed and removed from public use. I’m fine with that too as I realize it’s an offensive term to use and people generally think of it that way. So if we’re cleaning up that language in our culture, why is it getting way more permissive in the other direction? Questions to ask and discuss.

RE: 2023 Transfer Portal
@stoptheflop The opportunity cost of Hunter Dickinson. We lose a kid I was excited about.
-
RE: 2023 Transfer Portal
Of all the transfer news this is probably the most shocking. https://twitter.com/CBBcontent/status/1654519154634833920?s=20

RE: Hunter Dickenson is a Jayhawk
Hunter is very good. Seen quite a bit of him the last two seasons. Great touch around the basket, but can pop from outside too.
-
RE: Hunter Dickenson is a Jayhawk
@stoptheflop I’ll start. Hunter is a dick.

RE: Em V Biid!
@approxinfinity You were a little too cute there, I really didn’t know what you meant. Great honor for Joel!

RE: Jayhawks in the NBA -- 2022
Twitterverse is lauding Cristian for his defense on Durant.

RE: Jayhawks in the NBA -- 2022
Super cool to watch Braun getting significant playing time in the 2nd half of this season. His lack of playing time the first half of the season had me a little worried he might have made a mistake coming out early, but he’s clearly proving he belongs and playing for a team headed for the league semis it looks like.

RE: Scoring leaders (offseason topic to fill the time)
@mayjay Oh I didn’t realize! I love youtubing Pete Maravich. With todays social media I think he’d be a mega star.

Scoring leaders (offseason topic to fill the time)
Like @BShark and his post yesterday the offseason gets pretty tedious and we have to invent new topics to discuss.
Every year I look at the scoring leaders in DI and think, wow, that kid scored 31 points a game at Canisius, or 29.8 at Wright St and wonder if they could do that in a major conference?
A look at this years top scoring players, 3 are known to the average college hoops fan, Zach Edey, Drew Timme and Trayce Jackson Davis. The rest are pretty much unknown to anyone outside of the conference he plays in.
This years leading scorer was Antoine Davis of Detroit Mercy who at least became a little bit known because he needed one more game in which he likely would have broken Pistol Pete’s career scoring mark. Of course Pete did his in 3 years with a shorter schedule than Davis’ four years and upwards of 34 games a year. But still he averaged almost 29 points per game!
So put Davis on our team or UCONN, or any other major player and how do they do? I assume he doesn’t score that many but why? I’ve got some reasons, just want to hear yours. How many do they score for game with another team?
Every year one or two of these guys makes a name for themselves in the dance by shooting just as proficiently but in the dance and upsetting some teams along the way. Some become stars like Curry, while others fade to the background quickly and become todays Harold Arcenaux, one hit wonders.

RE: 2023 Recruiting
Someone yesterday mentioned to me KU is interested in Dingle (?) from Penn who entered the portal. One of the highest scoring players in the country last year. Not seeing much confirming that this is true. Has anyone heard of him or this rumor?

RE: Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk
@Woodrow We’re fans being fans! We all know we don’t have the ultimate answer, but this signing deserves some scrutiny. I hope a year from now we’ll be saying we were wrong about.
-
RE: Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk
@RockkChalkk said in Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk:
I like this move a lot. Just the action of picking KU/Self shows some maturity because everyone knows Bill wont mess around if he messes up again. Plus we only really know the story in the media which certainly isnt his version. Somewhat low risk, super high reward. Go hawks.
Let’s say he does mess up again. News of it comes out in late February. He’s helped lead this team to another league title and potential #1 seed. Now he’s got to be kicked off the team. Pffft goes our chances in the dance. I don’t want to risk that. I don’t want to even win with a guy like this.
All of you are right, we don’t know the facts, but stories like this wouldn’t be told about this guy if he was an upstanding citizen.
We’re already somewhat of a pariah nationally as the 5 major violations taunt is still repeated. Bring in Hunter D, another with a somewhat shady rep also and we’ll still be talked about negatively.

RE: KU Offseason Chef Bill Cooking Thread
Funny thing is I do want the michigan kid to play for KU even if he’s a big oaf. The dude can play and will help us win some games next year. I just wish I hadn’t seen so much of the bad side of him. Like if he ever walked into any arena with a ski mask on two days after a lunatic gunned down Michigan State students I think you’d understand. Giving opponents bulletin board material by calling them scumbags is more evidence of his doofusry. Hold my nose and watch him play for us? I guess.

RE: Jayhawks in the NBA -- 2022
I wonder if Spartan fans on their equivalent of SpartanBuckets are proud of Draymond in their Spartans in the NBA section? If he was a Jayhawk alum I’d just have to block him out of my reasons to be proud of my school.
-
RE: 2023 Transfer Portal
Wondering if there is, and if there isn’t, why not, a thread about Marcus Adams signing the other day? Having seen any chatter.
-
RE: Jayhawks in the NBA -- 2022
@mayjay Yes he should have been, but he was before my KU time so I wasn’t that familiar with him. I do have this story though. I was waiting around Robinson Gym to get in a pickup game and this dude asks me if I can rebound for him since he’s practicing his shooting. I was kind of dumbfounded like get your own dang rebounds but I didn’t have a chance to say that because he told me he was Darnell! I enjoyed the 15 minutes or so of watching a KU great.

Hard one. Happy that Jacque is having success after the firesale. Hope he has a great run in Brooklyn
I absolutely loved Jacque as our point guard. He was fantastic. Probably still my favorite pg.
Among KU pt guards quite the array of choices of favorites. JoJo White, Cedric Hunter, Jacque, Kirk, Aaron Miles, Russell Robinson, Sherron, Frank, Devonte, DDot and now DaJuan. What a list! Hard for me to pick one, but DaJuan is right up there as a championship winning guard on my list, even if he did have a massive brain fart which could have forced us to OT.
I was trying to remember if Steve Woodberry was a pt guard and trusted source Wikipedia called him a shooting guard/small forward. He is a scout in the TWolves organization which means there’s another Jayhawk in the playoffs!

@nuleafjhawk said in Should KU Even Bother Fielding a Basketball team next year?:
@wissox I think you’re being sarcastic, but just in case you’re not - Danny & The Miracles!
Yes, forgot the sarcasm font! My senior year at KU, probably my best sports memory
-
RE: Should KU Even Bother Fielding a Basketball team next year?
TBH I rarely look at the bracketologists. 2016 we all were sure KU was going to Chicago and the Midwest. Instead we get the 1 seed and play in Louisville with the nightmare 2 seed of Villanova.
-
RE: Should KU Even Bother Fielding a Basketball team next year?
@nuleafjhawk Hmmm, what team might that have been?
@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree, I’m not sure this years version qualified as a 1 seed TBH.
@Jethro. Don’t get too worked up about it. I was really just satirizing the idea that we’ll be terrible next year.
-
RE: Should KU Even Bother Fielding a Basketball team next year?
Lardy or whatever the bracketologists name is at espn says BShark is right, KU is gonna be way down next year, sees a 3 seed for us. True test of the real KU fans next season! League coach of the year won’t get Manhattan St back to the dance according to Joe either. Also Silo Tech is one of only 2 teams to not be dancing from the Big 12 which is really 1o but soon to be a gazillion.

RE: 2023 Transfer Portal
Storr from St. Johns to Wisconsin. Someone said he was a KU target while in HS.

RE: Happy Easter!
@approxinfinity Who wants to spend time cooking when you’re in Florida?!!
-
RE: Happy Easter!
@dylans We came home, but it was fun. First such trip in my life.
-
RE: Happy Easter!
LOL, had a frozen Digiorno’s for Easter dinner, but it was because we’re at the beach in Florida and who really wants to spend time in the kitchen when we’re doing this for the first time in my life?

RE: NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME MUTTERINGS
@mayjay Put an asterisk next to 3 of the 7 blue bloods and say gym named after KU people.

RE: Bill Self Presser Wednesday Morning
@Kcmatt7 I think you resent that I am a fan of two teams. It’s just sports so really what does it matter?
