Roy probably gets his ring in 97 if Jerrod Haase didn’t try to play with a broken wrist. He played 14 minutes, well below his average. Only scored 3. That game he did make 1 basket, a 3 showing it wasn’t totally an impediment, but reading recently about it KU believes it was a game changer. Still the worst loss in my KU fandom, with 2003 a close 2nd.

What’s different and scary (LOL) for our future is Bill Self was a no doubt about it great hire at the time. He’s still the BIG’s win % leader but obviously a smaller sample size (102 games). If Vaughn does become the successor as some suppose, he doesn’t have this college cred on his resume. It’s the unknown. Williams was a rookie HC, so there was some unknown there too of course.

Williams guys hung around enough for us to get to know them. Wish Williams guys could a made some FTs in 2003 or to me at least it’s a clear cut argument in his favor.

@nuleafjhawk It’s an interesting question. In terms of producing top NBA talent, I’d give the nod to Roy…a very slight nod. Hard to argue with Pierce, Raef, Jacque, Pollard, Kirk, Nick C, and Gooden. Selfs best of course won him 2 rings, but are slightly less strong overall NBA guys…maybe?

I just asked it on another thread, but will ask here. If Self was coach in 94 or whenever Jacque was coming out of HS would he have recruited Vaughn?

He’s a very cerebral guy if I remember correctly. Has KU ever missed on a coaching hire? I mean Naismith was kind of bad, especially for an inventor of the sport and everything. Wasn’t around for Ted Owens, but looking at his stats and I see he’s a bit better than I realized. Maybe he lost his touch towards the end?

You get what you pay for and after throwing away some piece of crap that lasted a year in Louisiana humidity I bought a 300 dollar Weber Spirit. That was in 08. I’ve replaced the drip/flavor bars once. That’s it, still works beautifully. Even heat, amazing grill. I just unscrew the gas when it’s not working right and screw it back on and it works well.

@RockkChalkk Sorry/not sorry if I can. The topic was threaded into the discussion of someone being deported who’s here to play basketball. I see a lot of parallels. It’s not a hogwash narrative. Hyperbole has been used to make points a lot in writing. I was employing the same. Trumps policies are already leading to deaths and so I’ll speak up, even on a great basketball blog.

Icestapo is what I call it. “illegals” is the equivalent to Jews 75 years ago and the detention centers that the border czar is codeword for c0ncentration camps. This is a nightmare situation unfolding in our country and one small impact is on sports and the aforementioned outrage.

Our home games will truly be home games this year, correct? I’m fairly optimistic, thinking we can scratch 8-9 out of that schedule. While I’m not predicting this, it seems to me that every game is winnable. There’s seemingly no national title contenders on there. We ‘own’ ISU, will in no way no how lose to Utah, and Lance has had manhattan jr. college on his to beat list and just might pull it off this year.

College football players who portalled back in December are now portalling again in the spring portal period.

Whilst living in Louisiana our town had a little league complex with 4 turf fields. While i bristled as a tax payer I soon saw the park filled nearly year round with tournaments. Friday night to Sunday evening. Restaurants and hotels filled. Lots of money coming into the town. But in the majors, grass is what it should be.

We got a kid from…St. Bonaventure. Wow, KU basketball is so back.

@nuleafjhawk Duke is a beautiful place. Strolled their gardens this summer. Snuck into their 2nd best basketball arena. Amazing how much I hate them! My grandma also passed at Duke hospital so it actually is a place with a lot of meaning to me.

We beat both these teams, well should have beaten both of these teams. Took the worst meltdown in memory to prevent it. Hard to believe.

Maybe I’m just biased against Duke, but I see fouls that aren’t fouls being called against Houston and fouls that aren’t being called against Duke. Duke is really good, but they don’t need help.

I’ve taken a lets see who takes the court on November 1 attitude. Done worrying or even caring who goes where.

Last time in the college world series I think was the 90’s? One great year we made a FF, Bowl game, and CWS, one of a few teams to do so. Probably 93 since that was a FF year.

Yes they’re on ESPN+. I’m just not into KU baseball enough to spend time watching.
