Love his archetype man.

@TYOHawk Very true and I agree but most teams in the tournament seem to have that type of a player. I think that’s probably one of the things we missed most since Kevin was out. Here’s the ball, go get a bucket.
I took it for granted with Frank and Dot. But the ability to just tell a guy to get in the paint and get fouled or get a bucket is so pivotal.
@kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:
I know I’m beating the hell outta a dead horse here but watching this game today. Teams just have so much better guard play than us. Guys that are quick off the bounce, can get a piece of the paint anytime they want. They are bigger, stronger and faster than ours. The one hope is it won’t be that way with Johnny next season if he returns after hitting the gym. He will be one of those guys.
See and my concern with that even if Johnny comes back is he isn’t a primary or secondary handler type. Frank Mason’s and Devon Dotson’s don’t grow on trees but we need a guard who can generate paint touches and get to the free throw line consistently.

He makes that sound a lot easier to attain than it is. He’s essentially saying you need shot creating guards, sharp shooters and depth. Every team is searching for that.
I like who we are targeting tbh
I love targeting Kobe and Garrison. So I won’t complain but I think Vecenie thinks we are closer than what I do.

Kind of discouraged for the first time in a while. Feels like we’re running this core back
I’m OKAY returning 4 starters, portaling in an awesome guard to start and then just adding quality depth. Get starter minutes down and things look a lot different. Our bench couldn’t even tread water against good teams this season and it killed us.
Gotta see what the portal additions look like. But I foresee a lot of the same issues with us potentially losing two pro wings. I still think spacing will be an issue with KJ, Dajuan and Hunt.
If I told you I’m 90% on Furphy being back would that brighten your day
Would give me some joy man…

He got us a title. He should always have a job here if he wants it in some capacity.
Obviously exit meetings haven’t happened but new article is up with EJ saying he’s staying. Hope he’s true to that statement

@FarmerJayhawk said in Elmarko:
Elmarko should definitely come back. Learning for another year then stepping into the starting role later would be awesome for both sides
Guessing you’ve heard about all this as well since it’s been buzzing around for days (I really vetted it out before posting here). KJ’s dad (KJ and his dad love KU) has been a big part of this. Heard he has been talking to Elmarko’s mom about things.
I’m still a believer in the physical tools but he is raw and needs someone to teach him basketball skills. That can be tricky, some guys never get there. Philon is the opposite, he knows how to play very well. I think the idea of the Elmarko (JR)/Philon (SO) is pretty enticing.
Gotta hope KJ’s dad and Self keep the other teams and people in his camp away.
@BeddieKU23 said in Elmarko:
He’s playing a different role because the role they could really use him at (backup PG, secondary ballhandler) he cannot do currently. He cannot run the offense or simple plays for this team.
They say he’s really good in practice but in games it hasn’t translated. He is young to the game due so maybe he has a big leap in him coming. We need something to stay and develop.
This is another reason I’m for it. We need to start having player retention again. We can’t keep shuffling guys in and out.
@approxinfinity said in Elmarko:
@TYOHawk because people complain about Juan not being a scorer. It feels like about a 2% chance that we will get 1 year of good shooting from Elmarko. If we have a couple non shooters fine, but i dont think Elmarko should play off ball. Id rather just have 1 guard that cant shoot on the court at the point. And another who cant shoot the 3 in the frontcourt in KJ.
One of my biggest issues with the team this year is I felt Elmarko didn’t get enough reps on ball cause Dajuan plays like 38 minutes a game. Coach has got to let him or Philon actually get to be on ball next year.
Why are so many against the kid returning? He’s been forced to play off ball the whole year and essentially adjust to a role he’s never had to do in his life. He’s one of the three-four good athletes on this team. Everybody doesn’t get it as a freshman and that’s fine.
Might be a shift. Going to be an interesting offseason. He’s being recruited back essentially.
Thank God!!!

I prayed for moments like this brother. Go get me Peterson and a few portal pickups and I’m dancing on the moon.
Oh yeah. I have mixed feelings on Peterson given his redshirt decision but no doubt he’s very talented. The way to do it might be to go to 13 next season then back down to 12 in 25-26
I just view it as a Malik situation to try not to get too deep into it. I’m just glad it seems from the outside KJ is down to do what’s best for the program and Hunt.

Liam and Furph at the 3/4

One thing about this recruitment to keep in mind is it had been hinging on Furphy going pro. That had seemed like a lock until more recently. I do wonder if that may complicate things.

To our teams detriment yes he is staying.

I think Aaron Miles, Russ Rob and Marcus Garrett are all the right comps here. As much as I love Frank he didnt get to a FF. All three of these guys and Dajuan did.

@Crimsonorblue22 Comment I referenced was with Hanni postgame which isn’t the media and espn+….I wasn’t lying
@TYOHawk - I just don’t get it. His protection of said player over and over when he’s been atrocious in his senior year and not “scored when he wants to”….is just proving what recruits see that Bill plays favorites.
The 1 is locked in for next year and so is the 4….there will be a reason we miss on big time recruits at those positions yet again……
Coach told us the guys around Juan have to be better. Which is 100 percent true. But if you’re only serviceable when you play next to pro wings and all conference bigs…then how good are you truly?
The constant defending and pushing the blame on other players just shows Bills true colors. It is literally never Juan’s fault in Bills mind.
I thought I would never see a player beat out Jamari or Frank as Self’s favorite. But I truly believe Dajuan has surpassed them.
Liam & Furphy at the 3-4 might save my sanity next year.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but it’s my understanding they recruited him longer. Also his family loved their tradition. Like I’ve seen Indiana people say that his family’s favorite movie is Hoosiers.

I have no urge to run this team back. I’d take KJ back as a bench big solely and Furphy back. The rest of the roster needs a reset. I wouldn’t be mad at Hunter being back as well obviously.

Sounding more and more likely that Scott Drew will take the Louisville job after the season. That’s going to be the a huge shake up in the Big 12 if he leaves because he was hired at Baylor the same year Self was hired here.
If true Self needs to go after Vj with everything he has. This team could use that infusion of athleticism in the worst way.
