The facilities are no longer an excuse IMO, Miles has got the best of any KU coach in history especially in terms of walking in. The locker rooms are on par with Texas’s brand new ones, the Anderson complex is fairly new and really nice, the practice fields were added after the orange bowl win and soon we will have one of the best indoor practice facilities around. Yes Memorial needs a face lift but we have improved it by removing the chain link fence and track. The real improvements will begin when the improvements start on the field. That place will fill up if we are winning on Saturdays. It has in the past.
I’m a FSU fan and I care about the optics but its not going to matter what I think of the matter. I have been reading of some people not on board with Briles because of the “baggage” from Baylor but your pretty much spot on that all that anyone is worried about is can this guy put points on the board and recruit.
I’ve had a busy day was only able to watch bits and pieces (listen mostly). Looks like yet again the defense played good enough to win. Sadly this team is only about 5 plays from being bowl eligible. I felt like the refs must have been the same crew as in Manhattan. They didn’t cost us the game but several missed calls that weren’t called against Texas and several weak calls on KU. Maybe having a well known and respected coach next season will help get a few of these. I really like this group of seniors and would like to thank them for their hard work. They definitely should be credited for starting this turnaround that’s coming, they could’ve half assed it after knowing Beaty was out and no bowl was happening. Thank you Guys!! Thank You to Coach Beaty, I believe he did the best to his abilities to turn this place around.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree, I just think our non conference is a little tougher going on the road to Boston College, who was ranked a few weeks ago. We do get good home draws in conference of KSU, Baylor and Tech. I just don’t think that a bowl game is realistic, I’d be happy to be wrong. I predicting 4 wins but 5 wouldn’t shock me.
Was great to see this happen, figured he’d go 3rd or 4th round. TE Ben Johnson signed a undrafted free agent deal with San Diego, sadly I felt we never used Ben to his capabilities. Sad to see some of the talent we have not add up to more wins or even competitive games, prob 3 or 4 guys on this years defense that have a good shot at going pro and a few on offense.
The CFP is a joint venture owned and operated by the FBS conferences (all 10 of them). They negotiated the TV deal which runs until a couple of years after after the Big 12 TV deal does. The Big 12 appears to be a zombie league since ESPN and Fox each refused to bump up the TV deal up to allow expansion and will likely be divided up in a few years.
The CFP will then expand to 8 teams with the next TV deal and the conference title games will be the quarter final games.
That’s 7 games total for an 8 team playoff. Rotate between the 6 games in use now for the CFP and New Year’s 6 games (Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Peach, Rose, and Sugar) and keep bidding out the title game like now.
Well I went back and made notes from the seasons gams and stats & two things really jump out to a huge issue for this joke of a season.
They were # 1: - - Points off turnovers , Ku was outscored off points off turnovers 15-117 - we got 15 points off turnovers - -holy crap., - But that goes in hand with turnover ratio - - KU forced NINE - -nine turnovers the entire year - -we committed 26 - -so the ratio 9-26 - -speaks volumes.
I was actually surprised - we had 21 sacks on the year- -BUT we gave up 29 sacks.
We had 5 int’s and only 4 fumble recoveries, there is a really good starting point for this season that just plain sucked.
Actually Rushing defense for KU was ok - in 9 out of the 12 games:
Southeast Missouri St ( 94 ) - - -Central Michigan ( 123 ) - - -Ohio ( 196 )- - - Iowa State ( 106 ) - - -TCU ( 191 )- - - Baylor ( 120 ) - - -Texas ( 113 ) - - -Oklahoma ( 157 ) - -& Oklahoma State ( 167 )
Now I realize that their passing may have help the rush defense some - BUT Southeast Missouri had ( 170 ) passing - - -Ohio ( 254 )- - - Iowa State ( 212 ) TCU ( 284 ) - - so those games was average anyways - -BUT again turnovers, turnovers, turnovers just killed us. AND plus we had a punter that shanked 1/2 of his punts were the opposition had really short fields to work against. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
Not saying we will win against Baylor (or anyone else from here on). Just that its our best chance outside of Iowa State and maybe Tech if we can move the ball and our secondary steps up. Probably the max we can do is get 3 wins this year, but I would take one more just to give Beaty something to build on in the spring.
@bmensch1 KU still wouldn’t play the overall #4 in the Elite 8 if KU gets a 1 seed because the overall 4 seed would be a 1 seed in a different region and you can’t have two 1 seeds play each other prior to the Final Four.
It seems an international coach with deep pockets and an eye for talent could clean up watching the unsigned players at NBA summer league. Possibly offer prior to NBA offers and drive up the price / urgency. Anyone know the restrictions on offering an unsigned draft pick? Can any NBA team offer? Does the team with draft rights then have rights on a match ? Does that window on draft rights for non guaranteed contracts expire in a specific amount of time? Can any international team offer? Can the NBA team with draft rights then have rights on a match?
