@BShark This year - heck yes!!!
Last 4….not exactly
Juando is playing his best ball and it’s not even close - keep it up d1 all American

@patoh3 Tonight I saw the Juan Bill sees……controlled the pace of the game from the jump
ATTACKED
Shot a clutch 3
Had an And1
Shut the other teams guards down defensively
I’m talking all American stuff tonight - efff best game he’s potentially played
KJ was the same - A STUD DEFENSIVELY
Flory got huge minutes/experience
HOW ABOUT EVERYONES FREE THROWS???
“We are tough and we got guards” - Goat Bill
Zeke needs to pull the trigger quicker but effects the game in other ways
@drgnslayr fffff emmm!!! We are more tied in with Unc via Roy ect
I’ll never cheer for them
@approxinfinity haha nah - 75% of the board won’t see it! I’ll let another poster do it
Bill >>kuballin10 - I know hard to believe
Defensively turned up
Storr started was great
Juan was INCREDIBLE
KJ’s D won us this game
I love this time of year…auburn - unc next - forget work tomorrow
Who’s starting the post game thread??? I got all sorts of positivity to spew about Juan (all American tonight), KJ the same!!!
Maybe Bill’s getting Storr squared away???
Juan shoot it brotha you’ve been balling all game
Kj not the guy we want shooting right now Bill but man he’s played his tail off!!!
@kjayhawks He’s stepping up but wish Storr got more run 2nd half
Bill must have seen something he didn’t like
@BeddieKU23 I’m curious to see the minutes distribution.
First half Self will play 9 but second half he will really tighten it up if it is close….
@SlimShaddy54 agh that sucks to hear sorry man
I miss your all caps
Liam’s game translates well to D1 but I’d take Rylo and Storr over him.
Man Auburn will be a final 4 contender if they don’t fight too much amongst themselves. Crazy athletic and quick
Speaking of isu’s defense is awesome. It’s very much hack and grab so much that the refs can’t call everything
Unc survived……
@SlimShaddy54 this @jayballer67
Geez how many handles do you have? I can’t KEEP UP!
Heard it hear first….when Self retires ….Ben McCollum
4 D2 titles which you know I love and he has 4 transfers from said D2 school 5-0 at Drake. Great offensive sets and principles on defense are solid for 2024
Drake against vandy 7:30 espn
@Texas-Hawk-10 Correct let him go for 40 and stop everyone else….especially the 3 ball
@Texas-Hawk-10 Ding ding ding
You and @kjayhawks nailed it
Do what Uconn did to purdont in the title game. Let Edey/flagg go for 40 and go home with a L
Bill is pretty stubborn and thinks Edy Sutton’s defending inside out is still relevant in 2024
I think we get roasted from not defending the 3 point like - like we normally struggle with and that’s our demise

@wissox @StLJhawk Ironically, one of the upvotes I got for my blocking post was from the person about whom I was referring. Makes me think he’s a troll bot after all.
A “troll bot” got it….best to block like a snowflake when you can’t even face reading alternative views
I upvoted it and was going to make a smart arse comment about if you can’t hang with the bulls in a real convo best to stay on the sideline bub….but I honestly hate empty garbage message board crap
Let’s discuss the team, how they are being coached, lineups, minutes ect. Not the minutiae like @jayballer67 who falls asleep on his CAPS LOCK BUTTON GOING CRAAAZYYYY RAMBLING ABOUT WHO KNOWS WHAT ONLY HIM
@Jhawk69 nailed it!!! Clutch analysis
@kjayhawks Alright so if KJ is in the starting lineup who does he guard?
Also, doubt anyone noticed and all credit would go to Juan but the UNCW pg got shut down………but it was KJ who was guarding him. When I watched the replay I was loving that defensive X’s and O’s by Self
I’m wondering if KJ he throws on Proctor or whoever is their lead ball handler to try to disrupt things
@kjayhawks List your matchups for who guards who - curious what ur thinking
Do we make the cfp next year? I predicted this year and clearly we had the squad but our OC sucks
@Texas-Hawk-10 KJ needs to show why he’s a started
I think this is a baddd matchup because we can’t guard Flagg and we aren’t quick enough on defensive rotations to double him and recover
Duke he long, fairly athletic and well-drilled
I think we lose by 6-8
Diggy struggled against the length, Zeke’s cold streak comes to an end but ultimately our lack of going true 4 guards 1 big hurts us
@approxinfinity I can for sure but if you look at my posts it’s actual analyzation of his coaching tactics with specific players
@FarmerJayhawk doesn’t care to discuss but just drop his snarky comments cause he hates me
@jayballer67 doesn’t even respond with any actual discussion but goes on rants to anything anti KU I ever say
Should be noted neither ever comment on anything positive I say…like the Juan comment in the other thread about him attacking and being D1
But boy the second I question something that Coach Self HIMSELF is EVEN questioning……geez you’d think all heck has broken loose

If he needs a team full of guys he has had for 3+ years to do anything in March that is an issue.
This is the best way to analyze it and you didn’t fan any flames but exposed the truth. He doesn’t quickly develop players well because of how he coaches them. This isn’t an era to tear a guy down like Russ rob and spend 2 years building him back up.
I don’t get the hate or actually lack of general understanding that if on a job you had a boss looking over your shoulder ready to pounce for the slightest of mistakes how it would be impossible to play with a free mind
@FarmerJayhawk Reread what you wrote because in that long run on sentence it was all the stuff I claimed so how I was supposed to know you switched to speaking about yourself is impossible
You don’t talk to the coaches or watch practice but sure big guy whatever makes you feel important!
@FarmerJayhawk said in Early season feedback on kuballin’s off season analysis:
@kuballin10 sure thing. Juan played 6 full years at KU so his stats will all have an asterisk, approx banned you for having an opinion, I talk to the coaches/watch practice, that’s just off the top of my head. I could keep going if I thought harder.
@Crimsonorblue22 When is his body language bad?
Juan missed him on an oop but they looked happy when he was shooting free throws
His body language is bad when he makes a mistake because he knows that directly correlates to how long he even has a chance to play ymca school in November
I’d be frustrated if I came in as a stud only to have the “dog” coached right out of me and instead of playing free I’m afraid to eff up for fear I get benched
All the while I watch guys bounced bad in the round for 32 multiple times get to make mistake after mistake and keep their minutes
Team chemistry is tough when coaches play favorites for who’s allowed to mess up and continue playing versus who can’t
@FarmerJayhawk Wth are you even making up now???
Juan will hold records because of the cov yr - that’s true
Me watching practice??? When?
I do talk to some coaches but not anyone on staff
You and @BShark are the guys/gals that act like you have all the connections
I was in on Ingram for why he wouldn’t come here (cough cough kj)
@wissox They didn’t and it’s a reason he was the prized recruit of the transfer class
Bill wanted a guy who could hunt his shot and was athletic. He got him and then does the ole Bill Self get him so in his head that he’s thinking instead of playing……tale as old as time
Instead of bringing the guy here and working to elevate what he’s already good at he tries to fix the 20% (defense and rebounding) that sucks and in turn brings down the 80% (scoring) positive parts for why we wanted him in the first place
Guys always play better when they are thinking versus just reacting. Guys always play freer when they think they won’t get yanked quick for one mistake.
@MR11 Nah - if let’s plenty of guys play through mistakes and others he quick hooks. Been like this for decades and his quick hooks u can tell affect those guys playing aggressively.
Guys make mistakes all the time and he lets them play through them (those he trusts)
@jayballer67 I truly enjoy your rants at me…skimming them is fun
In line with keeping on topic via this thread….what is your opinion on new players coming in thinking versus playing? Does Self’s quick hook help or hinder them?
Is some made up “toughening box” actually benefit them or should Self let them work through general mistakes and play freer?
@FarmerJayhawk Let me know what I made up
Self - AJ is thinking more than playing basketball and maybe it’s because of me
Kuballin10 - A coach who quick hooks guys makes them hesitant so they think about not making a mistake instead of playing….
Correlation = causation
@nuleafjhawk Give you and me a top 10 roster and the best homecourt advantage of any sport in history and I think we could coach a few dubs as well
Titles >>>regular season dubs
Titles is where you find out who’s got it. Who can win away from home, in big gyms with a floor raised and all eyes on you……
@FarmerJayhawk Where did I say that?
He’s mentioned Storr ect not playing with a free mind yet he’s the entire reason they aren’t doing that….literally been discussed on here already
@BShark You and I are seeing things eye to eye. This has always been my gripe with Bill. He plays favorites ie giving long leashes to guys he trusts versus guys who could elevate the team
To be our best we need Griffen and Storr playing like studs
Those two watching Juan make mistakes and stay in while they get the quick hook for 1 mistake is asinine
Bills psychology is point blank wrong. He wants these guys to play with a free mind and then decides one mistake and ur out…just absolute stupidity
In sales if ur boss is looking over your shoulder and on you over 1 mistake think you will sell with a free mind or overthink every single conversation???
Bill brings this upon himself with his backwards way of thinking. I have no idea who advises him on this stuff but it is brutally bad in terms of elevating the team versus hindering it
@BShark Friendly confines of AFH covers many sins lol. It’s why we are so great in the regular season and haven’t gotten to the mountaintop as much as we’d like
Bills stubborn but hopefully he pulls the right strings like in 2022
I need to comment as I’m sick and haven’t watched the replay yet but will tomorrow.
D1.5 was D1 based on the box score and game thread. He got downhill and hunted his shot when other guys couldn’t throw it in the ocean. Attacking Juan is my favorite whether he misses his layups or tries to swing it out for a three - HES GOTTA ATTACK
When he plays downhill I won’t complain. Question is can he do it against the duke’s, big 12’s ect (he can just needs bill to nudge him)
@jayballer67 Yormark is a true businessman and what every conference should be going after
Not some person in academia who was an athletic director but has no clue how to negotiate a contract and drive business/$$$ for the conference
@approxinfinity Yeah Juan’s job is don’t turn it over…ATTACK from the tip and score when needed
He’s done these things especially against msu second half.
I also saw him defensively turn it up granted it was Oakland but if that’s the Juan we get against Duke…mark it down - we will win
Juan and Shak/Diggy are good 1-2 punch at the pg spot
Juan isn’t my favorite pg clearly and he’s be baddd at times but for this team with 30 mpg instead of 35-38….he can easily be what we need!
Zeke was easy to peg because he can win one on one and get his shot off at anytime (even against tourney teams). He’s better defensively than @Texas-Hawk-10 said and his rebounding has been outstanding
Zeke’s a baller and effects the game even when his shot doesn’t drop
@BShark Please tell the assistants to tell Bill because he doesn’t play those lineups with Hunt….
@drgnslayr Well said. I rag on Self and wish I had his ear for some of my thoughts in which he’d probably show me practice and game film proving me wrong.
If he did my job he’d kick my arse at it I’m sure cause whatever he does he’s gonna succeed at
Dudes a stud but yeah I rag on his shortcomings but wouldn’t want another coach at KU. Whoever has to replace him I hope becomes “the guy” in college bball as I don’t want to be the next Indiana, Nova (post J wright) or heck what unc is becoming….
I think Bill will play around with defense and then finally make lasting changes in February.
He better start having Hunter play drop coverage on screens though otherwise we need to check his mental health cause it’s very un-Self like to not know how to tell a big to defend a simple ball screen!
@Kcmatt7 Nah he was our 5 man and still couldn’t board and guarded bigs 75-80% of games.
Trust me I tried to defend kj cause he’s so athletic which I love (granted he has minimal actual basketball skills) and @Texas-Hawk-10 put me in my place with the actual stats.
I took up arms that kj can board but in reality he’s never ever been good at it
Season hasn’t turned out as I predicted us being big 12 champs and in the cfp….but win out - get a bowl and roll momentum into next season
JD6 back or Marshall at qb and keep stacking those recruits and transfers. We got something folks just might have been 1 year early on the old predictions
@BShark Hope we can see AJ get run for kj immediately off the bench and Shak get some for Juan while the other starters stay in
Bill hasn’t ran things that way yet so doubt it happens. Just shows another blunder with lineups he can’t see the forest through the trees
@drgnslayr Kj hasn’t rebounded well for half a decade here as @Texas-Hawk-10 has pointed out for years
Bill can defend his guy all he wants but KJ’s lack of rebounding isn’t because the coaches are telling him to just take his man off the glass
@mayjay Andy and Bill are really similar. Consistently good all the time but until they have those elite players they can’t achieve prominence
Jimmys and joes > X’s and O’s But ultimately you need both
@kjayhawks Man if only there was a way we could play Mayo, Rylan and Storr on the floor together……oh never mind I forgot that lineup is never allowed based on how incredible and irreplaceable our 4 man is
Bill is on fire this fall like we’ve never seen before
Now to land a stud scoring pg (who can shoot) and a legit 4 man in the portal!
@jayballer67 KJ is athletic enough to guard 1-5 if you ask me on possessions we constantly switch. Heck he was our 5 man and we were a 1 seed….
Coach values defense more than offense but I’d say the game is going the other way. Be a better scorer and on defense force guarded shots and rebound.
That’s where kj hurts us is on the offensive end
@jayballer67 You are actually dead on with your take just slightly missing it.
Other coaches are very complimentary of KJ but he isn’t all big 12 or defensive team or anything. They then proceed to not guard him at all on the offensive end when he’s anywhere outside the paint
Actions>>words
Plenty of coaches off the record and not in front of the media have kj and Juan pegged accurately
Eye test isn’t difficult to see
