      ?

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away … Well it seems that long. Anyway, I can remember when my son attended Roy Williams camp and he stayed in one of the towers. My impression was how in the world can Kansas bring in top recruits and show them that this is what they will live in for the next 1,2,3 or 4 years. Now I’ve heard the athletes had better “compartments” than the average student, but that couldn’t change the overall appearance of the towers. I hope the powers that be put their stamp of approval on this project so future recruits will not only stand in awe when they first walk into the PHOG, but will go ga-ga over their place of residence during their stay. @JayDocMD Unfortunately times have changed. In today’s environment, Duncan Olajuwon and particularly Shaq are all one and done. Jabbar and Walton also stayed in College 4 years but they certainly would be one and done as well. Even Jordan stayed in college 3 years even when he was named Freshman of the year and was a unanimous first team All-American in his sophomore and junior years. Different times.

@CivilHawk Ah, I just saw this thread… I’d responsed to @iowajayhawk2005 on another thread… Looks like we came to an agreement on the namecalling on this thread. Glad to see. I’ll port over what I wrote here: @iowajayhawk2005 ehhh… damn it man, you keep making me have to act like an admin. I appreciate you, I appreciate your insights and your perspective. And others do too. It’s solid… but you’re the only person with a foul mouth on here. I get that that might be your thing, but can you censor yourself with asterisks or something? some modicum of self-restraint in deference to your fellow posters? Are you CivilHawk’s alter ego or something? I really don’t want to ban or censor anyone. And I don’t really want to qualify what “don’t be a jerk means”. But… it means “don’t be a jerk” by the perspective of the general consensus. That probably universally means not using words that have any direct or derivative meanings related to feces, or genitalia. It also means not insulting other people deliberately and repeatedly. Ultimately it is subjective, so I can only go by how insulted people appear to be in response to you. Looks like it was a rough day for that.

The problem with Xavier Henry was not that he could not handle not being the best player; he was not the best player or the second best or even third best at KU and he did just fine. The problem he had was being drafted by the Grizzlies who refused to pay the bonus all lottery picks get and then, his agent and father managed to have him not play in the summer league, the one place where rookies are evaluated and earn playing time; further, an injury ended what was left of hi initial season and he was never able to get in sync with management and coaching personnel. New Orleans was much of the same and he was released at the end of his contract. He was fortunate that he Lakers picked him up and now he is finally showing the potential we saw flashes of during his short stay at KU. He might not be a superstar but he seems to be in a path to a solid NBA career. If anything, Henry has been a level headed athlete that has stayed put of trouble and has returned often to Lawrence, has been proud and loyal Jayhawk and a good representative of the program.

Mason needs to go back to coming off the bench and Tharpe needs to lead this team. When do we think about starting someone else instead of Selden? It seems as though Greene has won the battle for the other minutes…? Tharpe may be the vocal leader but Perry needs to take on the rest of the leadership responsibilities. Wiggins is coming along and needs to keep it up.

By stating “elite” talent, can we assume we are talking about top20 guys? Good stuff @Ralster. Just to clarify, I don’t mean top 20 talent. I mean that one kid that comes along maybe once every 2-3 years or longer. That clear cut top guy in the class. Granted this year is unique, as there are several players (Parker, Randle, Gordon) that would usually be the best of the best most any other year. As I mentioned with guys like Cliff Alexander, I’m confident we’ll get plenty of top 20 kids regardless of how Wiggins does.

@civilhawk Me as well, Civil! I’m also thankful for all you guys and your manyfold contributions to a constant stream of Jayhawk consciousness, and Jesse Newell and his outstanding insights, and the other writers that produce the quailty KU stories we devour… the KU Sports guys, Rustin Dodd over at Kansas City Star, kenpom, Bilas and the other guys who started tipping the collective media cap towards the last decade of Jayhawk dominance, and back to all things civil, a country where we can afford to pontificate over our favoUrite (and thanks Julian and the Node BB guys! I can’t spell favourite without U!) sports teams. It’s been a good year for sports, and a good year in general.

Agree @JayDocMD Last night we really needed a PG, but Greene was not. And White has been playing well, so Greene seemed redundant and we were never in danger of losing the game. But 3 minutes was very short especially given the fact he played pretty well during that time.

      Mr Miyagi

I think this is great. It will keep Kansas in the spot light and of course be good for recruiting to play in this tourney. Hopefully we can approve upon our record beginning THIS year. Here is a link to the ESPN official Champions Classic page for this year. ESPN: Champion Classic
