Texas Tech Red Raiders - Saturday - 3pm - ESPN or 2

Kenpom has this a 12 point win for KU. Haven’t seen Vegas line but predicting its lower then that.
Tech gets out and pressures the perimeter and forces turnovers (Top 15 nationally) in turnover %, top 5 in non-steal turnover rate. They will try and limit post touches for Doke because that’s their biggest weakness, zero size in the post unless they go to freshman.

ya, I think that is kind of high. - -Thinking more on the lines of like 7. Realize were at home but like you mentioned they pressure well , and as poorly as we entry fed the post example ( Oachi’s attempt to feed Doke and the ball goes in for 2 lmao ) - he couldn’t do that again if he tried in 100 times holy cow lol. We’ve been doing some better handling the ball but turnovers going to be key.
Am actually feeling now glad we didn’t get Holyfield he hasn’t shown THAT much to me, is okay but not a difference maker . - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

We should win, we’re the better team and its at home. We get Dave back so we have 8 guys to rotate. They don’t bring an experienced team to Allen, only two guys have even played here so that’s something that could have a big impact. Still the only caution I have is Beard having some gameplan that makes our talent, experience & home advantage go out the door. They beat us in Allen 2 years ago, completely beat us down last season in Lubbock. Completely different teams for both sides. We have Doke inside this time. I’m hopeful we win as comfortably as Kenpom predicts.

@BeddieKU23 we kicked their rears by 26 last year at home! Thinking positive!

That would be awesome if it happened

I think the Vegas line will be under 8 if I’m guessing. That’s such a toss up to me.
This is where the Money is made though. Saturday will be a race to 65 I think. And I expect the O/U line to be like 135.

I was expecting the WVU/Tech game to be first to 60 then they went and scored 170 combined. Hard to explain how that game came out of no where regarding their two styles of play.
It doesn’t look like KU is going to be a team that hits 70 on the reg so I’d agree we’ll likely score in the 60’s (hopefully high) and if the defense does its job they won’t hit 60

I think of it this way. KU hasn’t allowed 70 points in regulation in any game except the Dayton game. So while we are due, if Duke, Baylor or Nova can’t score 70 I don’t think Tech is.

@Kcmatt7 Wow. I did not realize that.

I doubt Dave starts this year after his suspension. Braun really seized the opportunity.
Dave needs minutes and confidence to prepare for next year. Thoughts?

He will still get minutes. He just isn’t going to get the ceremonial start he’s been getting most of the season.

Self said he would probably play the same amount minutes as he was. It is not like his minutes are drastically going to plummet just because he is not starting.
-
Well we’ll see. Self would have to think that our offense operating at a disadvantage — Doke and Dave together — is wise midgame. It seems easier to rationalize that by starting your alleged best players. Best alternative is Doke and Dave’s minutes adding up to exactly 40.
-
Against Tech there could be an advantage playing Dave with Doke in some limited minutes. Tech is so small and I can bet Dave is eager to put the suspension behind him and play well. I think it’s something that KU might be able to steal a few baskets with them both on the floor due to how much of a size advantage they have. Of course there are factors to that possibility. Kentucky’s big man Richards really made the difference in their game last weekend and I’m banking Doke is going to have a similar impact

ya, we might see some of the two together. Yet don’t really think it will be a matter of big minutes. - Came to the realization ,we just look so much better with this team 4-1. - -It just seems when Dave & Doke are in at the same time the whole offense is just clogged - -jerky - -inconsistent. They just seem so much fluid & easy flow with the 4-1

Lol , had to laugh. Was listening to the Tech Pod Cast , gotta say their Pod Cast guys seem to like KU quite a bit. - -all laughing and saying they just don’t really see much chance of them repeating what they did what 2 years ago?
Made me laugh , they were saying wonder how would could get KU to thinking that our game is a trap game, maybe we wouldn’t be so focused. - -One said who does KU play next ? - - they said TEXAS , they laughed and said umm ya that’s gonna happen this being a trap game, They said ya KU thinking dam what do we have to do to beat TEXAS & Shaka? - - then almost in unison - - they said - -SHOW UP lmao - -just show up , lol that was crazy.
One said that he actually thought KU was the best team in the Nation , he says you know how much I hate KU he said but I actually think they are the best team in the Nation - - Saying Doke is a Beast, that he just beats you up inside and then Devon – talked about we have it all and that this year we have a really good defense. - -we shall see. I mentioned like day before yesterday , I was glad we didn’t end up with Holyfield. - -Sounds like Tech fans are giving him the business pretty good too, said he doesn’t need to be on the court, like I said I just don’t see a lot there – nothing special. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

KU- 9 is what I am seeing

I haven’t seen much of Tech on the tube this year. Just missed out on those games.
They look like a typical Beard team… mostly medium-sized utility players who do a little bit of everything well… mostly listen to whatever Beard commands.
@BeddieKU23 - Yeah, it would be nice if we actually learned how to use our size in the post (2 bigs). It really hasn’t happened yet and we still will need that as a tool in March, regardless what the stats show that 4-guards are superior.
My mind hasn’t changed on this team. I still think this is a team that should run a fairly rigid offense through structured plays because we just aren’t figuring it out in free-flow mode. If we could get up to 1/3 of our offense through play calls I would be thrilled! I know the modern players don’t really like the rigidity but we could use more structure in our offense and it would tear down about any defense we face.
Best to signal from the bench so we can hopefully speed up our offense. We are running one of the slowest offenses in the country! That just doesn’t make sense!!!
I am liking to see the backdoor alleyoops called again!

Little heads up about today. Don’t be surprised to see Russell Tchewa for Texas Tech to get minutes today. He is a 7 footer 260 pounds that Tech is high on says offensively go a ways to go , but looking to add height to their rotation even possibly taking Holyfield out. The fans sure want to see more of him really like his energy , and the staff likes him also.
They loved the way he came in and played against Kentucky coming in and he only played 5 minutes BUT had 4 points and 5 rebounds in the 5 minutes and a block - you can almost bet they will use him to try and counter Doke - plays pretty good defense - did a pretty good job on Edwards, just a player to be aware of on Doke today.
Texas Tech also having issues. Tech player Joel Ntambwe 6’8 forward was denied his appeal for the 3rd time recently, Tech had been counting on him this year - -Thing is he is a transfer from UNLV averaged 11.8 and shot 38.8 from the 3 last year, - -you remember two days after Beard took the UNLV job he turned around and took the Tech job. - -well Ntambwwe wanted to transfer out and follow Beard to Tech. UNLV had 3 others transfer out and had no problem getting they’re release was granted instantly.
Tech fully believes there is something really fishy here with them not granting Ntambwe his release. - Bad blood between UNLV & Tech & Beard - - that has to suck. - - Going to be a nice piece if he ever gets released. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Fantastic mutual admiration between Beard and Self.
