Yeaaaaaaaaaaah not thinking MJ Rice is likely to suit up in Lawrence. Traore and Bona also straight pro risks. We are going to see more and more of this but at least they did the NIL thing.
-
@BShark if we start bigtime recruiting a player who while not even close to the same but somewhat fitting Rice’s skillset, then we’ll know without anyone even giving any inside info that he is not going to step foot on caampus. Personally, I think that he is going to be a Jayhawk for one year. I want that dude in Lawrence! And we need to sign Udeh.

Miller could still go pro. If not, it will be Bama with Memphis having a darkhorse chance. KU is not in the picture.
Neither is Memphis they are not in the picture PERIOD according to his dad - I’m gonna be one of those guys wait and see on this one BShark I just think there might be more there then what your seeing

I wonder if the staff created an NIL recruitment program that is sufficiently competitive with those considering to go pro/g league.
“You can now make money either way… Why not come to the cathedral for a year, kick off your sponsorship business here as well as your basketball career?”

Agree, we need to be on our game just for GP, never against people making money. …
Other side of the coin, the big-trunked elephant in the room though? How do you keep certain players engaged when they are already millionaires, but not yet able to enter the draft?
Case in point (I know, not basketball related), Spencer Rattler. He went from being Rattler to just flat out Rattled, and he was the pre-season Heisman frontrunner and projected #1 overall NFL draft pick. Caleb Williams, a highly coveted true freshman who didn’t even play high school ball last year, has made him look totally pedestrian. Why?
I know, Williams was this year’s number one qb recruit out of high school, is the real deal and has to start - bigtime talent, OU flows with him at the helm. But Rattler was also a number one duel-threat qb recruit coming out of high school, and is a 3rd year sophomore and OU flowed with him last year - totally shellacking Florida in their bowl game.
He is now a shell of his former self. Why? What, he suddenly couldn’t stand the spotlight and or crumbled with newfound competition? Naw, I say he lost his edge due to being fat, dumb and happy, and it did not do him any favors. To the transfer portal Rattler comes, because at this point it is a stretch - a couple months ago he was the projected #1 overall pick on Mel Kiper’s big board - for him to even be selected in the first round. I wouldn’t burn a 1st round pick on him, sure wouldn’t.
Prediction - high school football recruits will soon ask, “why can we make millions from NIL but not be able to enter the NFL draft?” Not a big NFL fan anyway, the product sucks when compared to college ball, ditto the NBA (btw, I don’t make decisions or rules, just a guy who pans through crap).
The one and done rule in basketball will soon go the way of the dodo too, undoubtedly. It only benefits the NBA it tries to protect an already shitty and too young product, and once OAD is tossed the league will be even more young and shitty, but oh well - I will not give one let alone two farts in its defense… If a product is sound it will stand on its own, if not let it fall.

When is Udeh announcing?

@Marco I believe he is announcing Tuesday. I feel good about this one

Virginia Gold looked loaded and Prolific looked a lot less talented as a team but MJ did not back up any part of his ranking against them

I myself think it’s 50/50 at best bud
-
I don’t expect he does. Recruiting 5 star types now is a complete crap shoot
-
Well the way things probably play out is - - - Last year COVID knocked us out of strong possibility of a National Championship - -THIS YEAR the IIARP or whatever it is /NCAA will probably see we are stacked with another really good chance at a Championship and they will ban us from post season play this year. Figures that’s how the NCAA will screw us this year

He’s tied to some people that were involved with other kids that committed to college and then skipped for the G League. Huge part of why NC State backed off.
-
@BShark thanks for the info.

Agree I saw this as well somewhere else. It was a gamble taking his commitment but I think for recruiting purposes it was beneficial to have a 5 star type player as the headliner at least until he really decides what he’s doing. Sounds as if him working on his body (getting more lean) & working on some parts of his game (jump shot) has him looking like a potential g-league/prof option after the upcoming year. If all else fails then he goes to KU I guess for a year.
Now I saw some of his first and 3rd games that showed him playing better then I saw against Virginia Gold. Saw that he averaged 21.3 ppg during that tourney that had lots of talent there. He’s definitely a physically imposing player at this level. KU would benefit getting him for sure. He’s in that mold of Henry/Oubre/Wiggins/Selden esque wings that come here and produce as freshman. We’ll see what happens.

Sorry I’m here to kill dreams. :p
So riddle me this Batman - -If it is now being widely said that he will play College ball and the only 3 colleges he has listed is Alabama Tennessee St and KU - -where is he gonna play his College ball ?
Another reason I think neve say Never IF it is College cause if he was so set on Alabama why even bother bringing KU back into the discussion ? & Visit - -so is it Tennessee St ?
He just wants himself a party weekend, more or less being wined and dined. Wouldn’t you as a high school baller take an all expenses paid trip to Lawrence on a weekend? He is not going to play one minute of college ball.
ummmm , not so fast there my friend lol - geez where have I heard that phrase before Lee Corso maybe lol. - - anyways alot of people now saying he WILL play college for a year anyways. - -If I just wanted to wined and dined I could think of a LOT of other places then in Lawrence lol

I have to say I’m impressed (as long as he commits) that we landed him. Month ago I definitely thought the Portal was the only option for another big the way things were trending. Good to see this class with for now possibly 4 Top 100 kids.
-
So Ernest is going to announce at 6. - -With him being in Florida , which would be Eastern time Zone - - So does that mean 5 O’Clock our time ? just curious
-
Announcement is 6pm Kansas time

4 top 50 kids!

@rockchalkwyo Don’t think Rice sticks (hurrr) but it is nice to see recruiting back.
-
Rebounds and dunks.
-
There you have it guys - - - NASTY - -rim to rim - -shot blocker & rebounder. - -I will take that any day - -every day ROCK CHALK

For sure , and they actually said KU has 4 out of the top 41 recruits , just wish MJ would stick but I don’t think he ever steps foot on Campus as a player for KU

According to ESPN, Doke is 6’10” ️
-
-
He’s got to have a 7’2 or more wingspan. Evident when he gets up there for dunks that he’s got some reach to him. More natural athlete at the basket then McCormack. The lob, rebounding, rim protection and ability to dunk are things that will translate for him. With development on his footwork and refining his skills in the post he’s going to be a Bill Self favorite if he sticks around
-
@BeddieKU23 If ever there was a front court to tempt Bill to go 2 bigs again it’s Zuby and Udeh. He is definitely going to try it lol.
-
Udeh is seriously a great fit for what Self loves to do with bigs. Gonna have him seal, screen, get angle passes for dunks etc…
-
I like both of them a lot. They both fit what Self wants. Both are athletic and can punish the rim.
-
At least on offense, Clemence and Udeh works great. Defense might be a tad iffy
-
You know before it’s all said and done , Zuby and Udeh just might makes a pretty nasty duo. I’m thinking they will chances are they will be here for three years. Well I think anyways I guess how quick they really develop.
Last I heard/read on Juby today was could very likely play small 5 ball , Zuby has a High Motor , Powerful , Explosive & Ultra Agressive. I like how that sounds you put that combo together hell maybe both on the floor sometimes in small amounts. Gives Bill multiple options to work with. Ya I like it - - I like it ALOT
-
@jayballer67 feel better now? Lol…
-
You love to see it. How does Udeh project as a defender? Is he a shot-blocking type player?
-

I completely agree. As you said awhile back, the Death Star is back in operation.
-
@jayballer67 I’m not ruling him out. Step up our NIL game now!

very good protector I’ve heard runs rim to rim aggressive rebounder and rim protector
