Beaty FIRED

  • Interested in what the presser will be about later. I’m guessing (without any real info) is that it’s going to outline the plan moving forward, both the search process (since legally KUAD has to do a formal one) and for the remainder of this football season.

  • @FarmerJayhawk - pretty well came out and said no assistants might as well not apply. looking for a proven leader

  • @jayballer73 for sure. I mean barring something unforeseen it’s Miles.

  • LIVE at 6PM.

  • @FarmerJayhawk - I’d think Miles would be more interested in the Maryland job, which has a proven talent base and decent attendance already in place… Thoughts?

  • @Gorilla72 I doubt it. The Maryland administration is a total shitshow right now and it’s a tough place to win. KU, while also a tough job, has a new and seemingly really solid leadership structure and money to spend. Don’t underestimate how important it is for a coach and AD to be able to work together. Miles and Long go back to the Michigan days.

  • @Gorilla72 Les Miles has known Jeff Long for a very long time going back to their days at Michigan together. Les Miles is going to be the next head coach at KU.

  • Ok, I have to say this one more time… Beaty FIRED…

  • @Gorilla72

Maryland is currently a bigger dumpster fire than the MU basketball program was. Even the basketball program there is in trouble and Turgeon’s seat is rumored to be hot and getting hotter.

  • Wish I could stink at my job, get fired and then get paid an additional $3million. I can be a nice guy too!

  • Beaty is a good guy no question and he may have actually been able to be successful if he hadn’t inherited a complete dumpster fire from Weis. He may never get another shot at HC. People forget he also took a risk in taking this job, he wasn’t the right guy but I thank Beaty for running a clean program and doing his best tho I am happy that he is being dismissed.

  • One positive for opening up the job this early is that you maybe be able to get the next coach before some other high profile jobs open up. Louisville and USC seem like they have a good chance among others of being open. Everyone I’ve talked to with any connection is saying Miles is the guy but I’m not gonna bet the farm on it til I hear more or they announce it.

Here is Coach Beaty’s statement; pretty classy.

I really do like Coach - I just feel the poor guy was in over his head. - - I have no doubt about his love of the University and the players - - ROCK CHAL ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • From Beaty to Les Miles …what a difference. That’s like going from Roseanne to Sofia Vergara.

  • @kjayhawks USC won’t be open this year. They’re having a down year, but it won’t be enough to get rid of Helton.

There won’t be a top tier job open this season. Michigan is the one that could be open if Harbaugh doesn’t beat OSU, but I’m skeptical of it happening this year. North Carolina might be the best job that comes available this year.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I would say that with Helton winning the conference last year he is fairly safe, if they make a bowl but one other thing to consider is they also have a new AD that probably wants he guy in place.

UNC will be Littrell if he wants it. Really good fit there.

  • @kjayhawks Lynn Swann has been the AD for 3 years and wasn’t brought in because of the football team being bad. Helton won’t get fired for this year. Another year or two like this though would be another story.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Agreed, just saying several places have him on the hot seat.

  • The Maryland HC job is available although it seem radioactive at this time but probably the expectations will be lower at the start.

    K-State making a move here.

  • @BShark Supposedly Littrels agent was in Methattan last week. Also heard that he is waiting on Riley @ OU to make the NFL jump in the next few years before going elsewhere. I still question if KSU has the guts to stand up to Snyder. There is always a ton of rumors floating around on boards this time of year, its tough to know what all is fact and fiction.

  • @kjayhawks Fair points.

Also, even if he takes the KSU job I would see him leaving in a second for the OU job if it opened up. He’s an OU guy.

  • @BShark You would think if he was really interested in the OU job he’d go outside of the B12 conference so he wouldn’t be jumping to a rival school. That and lets be honest he could do better than KSU if the right job opens up in the next year or two.

  • K-State is not OU’s rival. OU doesn’t even wipe their butt with the likes of KSU or KU. OU’s rival is Texas. OSU’s rival is OU, OU laughs at OSU.

  • Maybe rival isn’t the right word but still changing HC positions within the conference isn’t seen too often.

  • @kjayhawks True. Saban and Chip did it, but they had failed NFL stints in between.

  • KU and KSU have only one winnable game left and it is against each other; the loser finishes at the bottom of the conference and in KSU’s case places Snyder in the super hot seat. Losing to KU and finishing last might be what finally drives Snyder into retirement. Lots of unhappy fans in Manhattan that want to move on from the Snyder era, preferably with ALL the Snyders gone.

  • I don’t know that Littrell would risk waiting that long to get paid. If Riley doesn’t make the jump after this season, it would be dumb. Someone is going to offer Littrell stupid money this offseason.

They will cave. - - Snyder want s Sean to take over his spot- - -this is part of the reason things are crumbling- -Bill’s being so bull headed - -quite frankly - -today’s football has past him by.

Here again him refusing to change - he is still back in the days of Osborne - -wanting to run Literally run like 3 runs and a cloud of dust - he is not keeping up with todays football - has a lot of fans upset

Heard fans of K-State say step down NOW - -Leave on a good note why tarnish what you have accomplished , why stick around - - less talent then before - unrest in the program - getting ugly there. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73 I don’t believe the athletic department or the fans want Sean as the coach is the problem. He is the Special teams Coordinator. They pretty much lost to TCU and Baylor because of simple errors on special teams. Hard to go to bat for a guy that can’t even run the special team side of things.

  • @kjayhawks That for sure is almost 100 from what I’ve heard— there are some that want all the of them gone are all gone - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • KSU is going to clean house, from the top down. Could start as soon as tomorrow. Littrell isn’t going to KSU. File it under “Guys who want to appear in demand.” Littrell will have much better opportunities. UNC being one. Or he could pull a Herman and just wait a year for OU or another premium job to open up. KU almost definitely will not be open by the time Littrell really hits the market.

  • @FarmerJayhawk I highly doubt they fire Snyder before the KU game, it maybe a similar deal as to Beatys where he announces he’s retiring at the end of the season. I’m also not here any of this chatter from some KSU guys ik. Will be interesting to see what happens.

  • @kjayhawks they won’t have to. Officially it’ll be a mutual parting of ways. There will be a lot of “I believe it’s time and all good things come to an end” yada yada. In no uncertain terms Snyder was forced out. Monied interests in Manhattan were done with the status quo.

No , I agree – I don’t think that would ever happen. Gives Snyder that chance and the K-State fan base one last time for Snyder to best KU. - You know with the situation going on there that pace will be insane. Their players will be all jacked up to win against instate rival for Snyder for sure. - Now if this to played at KU I think we would have a lot better chance. Not saying we don’t have a chance but just not as good. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73

Likely the last hurrah for both coaches, certainly for Beaty, but looks more and more like it will be for Snyder as well.

  • If Snyder announces his retirement this week, they win this game going away.

very much so. - -Just was reading from the message boards , there is ALOT and I mean ALOT of their fans saying it’s time to go. - -Had to laugh at one post, the poster said - -Well if KU is focusing on Les Miles then w need to focus on Saban lol

  • @jayballer73 LMAO Saban wouldn’t leave Bama for Texas and a $10 million a year contract a few years back, then it would take about $50 million a year to get him at KSU.

  • Have any of you read ku sports or tweets from Ben Heeney about Charlie w. And coach Beaty? Insightful.

Insightful is one way to put it. I would expect nothing less from a former player though.

  • @BShark fires me up all the more about zenger, he should pay us!

  • I would not bet on Snyder leaving. He is the God of football in Kansas. He may be stubborn. He may be put off by the talk.

Of course, he may truly be the type of person most see him as, and that may lead him to step aside.

  • At least we can say that the program moved forward – if only slightly – under Beaty. Not sure any coach since Mangino can say the same.

I give him credit because the energy necessary to reverse a downward trend is significant.

  • So Beaty is now helping Texas preparations for Oklahoma in the B12 championship game. Apparently he was dealing with delays in getting to Austin with the current winter storm that rolled thru Kansas. What’s everyone’s opinion on this? I personally think it’s kinda a weird move by Herman. I mean all coaches trade game film and give pointers towards friends that have a common opponent but flying Beaty down to help seems laughable. I don’t blame Beaty for doing it, he very well could be auditioning for a job. It’s just seems odd that he gets fired and is helping the team that he just played against from the same conference, as bad as the play calling was in the first half, maybe he blew he the game to Texas lol.

  • @kjayhawks I think the optics of it are pretty bad. I agree with what Lincoln Riley said yesterday in that it sets a bad precedent going forward. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a rule change in the near future to ban this from happening.
