Can someone answer how allowing kids to profit off of their likeness ruin CBB?

  • What would happen? What do you think would happen? I seriously want to know what the downside is. I’m apparently just blind to it.

  • THE END OF CIVILIZATION AS WE KNOW IT.

  • I will admit that I was against forever, and only in the last year have I changed my opinion on this. I do NOT think the schools should pay the student athletes. Nobody is making these kids go to school. They can go to the G league, Europe, or sit out a year and train. There is a reason 99.99% of them go to college.

However, I do think that if said company wants to endorse a kid then they should be able to accept that money and still be able to go to college. It would be interesting if for example Josh Jackson went to Kansas and while their was endorsed by Under Armour. I am not sure how that would work. Obviously he would have to wear Adidas while in uniform and practice.

  • @Woodrow That’s my stance. And I think the shoe thing would work itself out. They do it at all levels in Pro Sports. Nike is currently providing all three major sports uniforms.

  • @Kcmatt7 the main difference is obviously pros can wear whatever shoe they want. If you went to KU you would have to wear Adidas I would think or the apparel contracts would be drastically affected.

  • @Woodrow I don’t think they would have to be drastically altered. There would have to be a minor amendment made that players can wear whatever shoes they want.

Even if they didn’t, they could probably get away with posting pictures and things in certain shoes. Either way, I think it would work itself out pretty smoothly.

  • @Kcmatt7

If that is the case why would shoecos give contract to schools? Shoes are the primary money maker and if players wear what they want shoecos contracts with schools would cease to exist.

  • @JayHawkFanToo No shoes aren’t even a little the reason for the contracts. KU fans buy A TON of gear. Enough to cover even the crazy $191M contract. I worked in this exact field, first hand, as a manager, and know some numbers to back this up. The paying players behind closed doors is more of a compound effect of this. I can make a longer more detailed post if you’d like tomorrow.
