@BeddieKU23 nit status
There are posters that think KU might not even make the NIT next year, others calling for Self to be fired etc…
Sounds about normal. Imagine if Doke didn’t come back.
Hasn’t been a good year even I am restless with all the negativity surrounding the program and recruiting. Hopefully once this roster is in place I’ll snap out of it
-
@BeddieKU23 Doke certainly improved the baseline but I think there is still a wild swing for next year based on guys KU is still in on. Add Tucker and Holyfield and that’s a top 10 roster easily.
-
@BeddieKU23 I wasnt

Doke being back is monumental, if healthy. That’s the million dollar question that will loom over the team every game and every practice.
I agree that adding those two transfers alone would make this a Top 10 team if Dotson returns. I guess we shall see what happens.
-
The question is, who is even good next year?
UNC taking a step back. Duke has a great class coming in, but Carey isn’t Zion and Hurt isn’t Barrett. Marquette could have been a top 10 team if the brothers had stayed. Virginia is losing their top 3 players. Tech lost some players. Yet to be seen at Memphis. Georgia has Tom Crean as HC.
UK and MSU are 1A and 1B.
After that it’s a crapshoot. At least that’s what it looks like to me.
-
Looks like Johnny Juzang is going to reclassify to 2019 and commit to Kentucky. He just scheduled a OV there for Monday. KU was believed to be a leader for him a while back.

Well he was Adidas but you know, Cal decides he needs a player and Nike is like okay we got this.
-
That’s funny. Juzang is good, not elite by any means. Cant see him playing much
-
It’s unreal. Duke and UK getting top guys for bench spots. We can’t sell a starting spot.
-
Dam Saw Jeff Goodman updated his to early top 25 today. - - Jumped KU all the way up to # 3 in the Nation behind Michigan State and Duke. - -Dam - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

This blows my mind as well. Makes no sense at all.
-
A lot of you follow recruiting closer than I do. But, given the way top recruits have shied away from us, I am not hopeful that anyone that thinks they are going to be here one year is coming. I am thinking Holyfield, Tucker , etc. are going to shy away just as the top freshmen have.

COREY EVANS @COREYEVANS13M UK JOHN CALIPARI IS EXPCETED IN TOMORROW FOR TOP- FIVE JUNIOR RJ HAMPTON, A SOURE TELLS @RIVALS @ROWLANDRIVALS

@JAYHAWKFAN214 Could you interpret that? It makes no sense what you wrote.

UK COACH IS GONING TO GO SEE RJ HAMPTON
-
At this point, I’m going to let all of you do the research and keep me informed about which recruits may or may not come to KU - these shoe company connections and how spoiled these kids are who may or may not make it to - yes, I’m calling it - a dying NBA (which I quit watching a long time ago) is really urking me. Hell, even prognosticators like Wilbon no longer hide the fact that defense is not even played and that the fix is often in. Coach Self will sign a few more recruits and that coupled with what we have coming back will make a more than solid team next season. After that all of the FBI/NCAA crap will be behind us, and even if there is punishment - which I do not see us getting - we will be able to recruit accordingly. All will be fine in Jayhawk basketball land. Why? We are KU, that’s why.

Hampton is coming. It just has that feel. And I’ll eat my words about Adidas today.

I’m trying to not get excited but it’s hard. I hope this decision is mostly up to RJ.

Well it sounds from the sound of that article , that as long as Hampton gets the proper credits and is eligible - they said they think the elite talent will be Lawrence bound
Also kind of think Tristan may just end up here - he visits on the 28th of this month - -he has already had his visit to Miami and Creighton- -hopefully we can hear something positive for a change ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

BOY if we could get Hampton and then somehow manage to pull Tucker away from Auburn we be good

For all of you “statistic geeks,” I would love to know how many NBA players there are that were NOT ranked in the top 40-75 coming out of HS. Seems like there is a lot of NBA talent that weren’t OAD’s or highly ranked coming out of HS, but I could be wrong. I’m always rooting that the Hawks find some more “diamonds in the rough” like Mason, Graham, etc.

Hagans, Quickley, Maxey, Whitney, probably Juzang… does Kentucky have room for Hampton?

NOT REALLY

If that happens I’m done watching college basketball. I am. I don’t care if he goes to Memphis. But if he goes to UK I’m done.
-
Ok , so Juzang re-classified , to 2019. - - 6ft 6 - SF - -article says can score at all 3 levels.
My question and yes I understand UK offered. - -yet my question seeing as how we ere at like 50/50 in the old CB thing - -with him re classifying - since he has even WITH UK offering - you think there would be a possibility that w could get a official visit from him now?
Virginia - - USC - - UCLA - - Villanova - & KU was on his list of schools before Kentucky. - -Rated as the # 21 prospect in the class of 2020 - -maybe we still would have a shot - -we got and opening for him - -take Vick’s place right?
Chances are he is a wrap to Kentucky now but you would think Coach Self would be on the phone planting a bug in his ear to at least come Visit since he has re-classified. - - I say lay the Hammer down on him now - -lay it down hard - Hey open game - would be funny as hell to yank him away from Kentucky - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Jesus, even the high schools - and I am truly hoping that Hampton reclassifies and that we land him - are in on it. How many of you out there reading this had enough credits to graduate high school after your junior year? Anyone, anyone? Now (whether you did or didn’t aside), what are the odds that these jocks have legitimately stockpiled so many credits? Thank you…
-
@Marco I could’ve taken 2 summer school classes (an English course and an elective) and graduated after my jr year. Instead I took mostly college level courses thru the local juco for dual Hs/college credit. I don’t think that’s too unusual.

HE IS A GOOD KID AND A SMART KID HE HAS GOOD GRADE
-
@JAYHAWKFAN214 Lol! Yeah, I’m sure those jocks are really hitting the books.
-
@dylans See Jeff run. See Jeff run fast
-
Man… If we land Hampton and Enaruna I hope that we might also have a shot at getting Zeus Jackson and Poseidon Williams.

Closest I came was having enough at Semester my Senior year. Wasn’t ready to hit the job market yet so I took like 5 out of my 7 hours was physical Education of some sort - none of my buddies was able to grad early so I didn’t want to just sit at the house the afternoon while they were in /school lol
-
@JAYHAWKFAN214 agree on the smart kid! His parents are bringing him up the right way!
-
I guess what I am getting at is that these kids seem to decide spur of the moment that they want to graduate early and, wallah!, they already have enough credits to do so. See Jeff run. See Jeff run fast. It seems that I remember it all starting - can’t remember it happening before then - with Duke, even before Bagley, but I can’t remember the player right off the top of my head.
-
@Marco I’m not sure. I thought maybe he had jumped around (up and back) classes. He’s already 18. But all I can find on his prep career is his 3 years at Little Elm https://www.usab.com/basketball/players/mens/h/hampton-rj.aspx
However, it’s been stated he’s out of Texas HS eligibility, so maybe he played a year elsewhere?
-
I would have thought if he had plans to visit now that re-classified he would have already done so. Seems clear his intent is to go to Kentucky. They only have 8 scholarship players so I guess he sees that as a good situation for himself. He’ll be stuck behind Maxey, Quickley, Whitney & Brooks though.

Can Hampton and Dotson co-exist on the court? Someone needs to be able to shoot on the perimeter…

They’d fit better than Dotson and Garrett…

If I’m Bill I’m reaching out to Zeke and Josh Green today and making sure they know he’s there for them if and when Miller gets fired

He can love Marcus and Still start Hampton over Marcus. I’m not so sure REALLY if Marcus is the type of kid that gets all caught up in starting . I think he is happy to do just whatever he can to help our team. Marcus could still see a lot of Quality minutes especially when he could Back up Dotson & Hampton and even the Small forward for a few minutes if needed.
I mean I know in the end run it’s all on Coach - - just saying if it was up to Marcus I don’t think it would really matter , just don’t see him as a type of kid that is - -well what’s the words I’m looking for , anyways I’m pretty sure they could work it out with a lot of problems. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Holyfield & Tucker would make bigger impacts then Green/Nnaji. Change my mind

100%. I’ll have to find who it is, but someone on Twitter that seems somewhat knowledgeable said Self has personally been more involved with RJ than basically any recruit in recent memory. He wants him bad.
Garrett only started 13 of 30 games last season… I don’t know that Self is THAT in live with his game.

For those of you that follow KU recruiting closely does it seem like this past year there has been almost no coverage of it? There just isn’t a good site that provides any information on updates on any of the recruits that we are after. I just never read anything about who we are visiting how visits went and such. Holyfield visited Monday and I literally haven’t seen one word about it.
The only information I really ever see is from Corey Evans or Eric Bossi and it is usually in their little weekly write ups. Just is a lot different than it used to be.
-
@Woodrow new owners of the LJW and the good writers went to the KCStar who hates KU.
-
Yeah there’s a lack of coverage as well as a lack of connection into the program by those that are paid to do it. If there was a huge market for KU basketball/football recruiting I think you would see it change. Football has to become prominent again though.
-
Good points. I hope his investment into RJ pays off. Just going to sit back and see how it goes. These types of recruitments don’t usually pay off for Self. Hopefully that changes with this one
