Yeah, if it was super serious, he'd be at KUMed by now. Hope the team is locked in tomorrow night. Late game, so I'm not surprised they didn't travel earlier.

I don't know if coaching (what he's done for three decades) is worse for him than golfing or sitting on a beach waiting to die, so whatever he wants to do is probably what he should do until he's ready to quit. IMO

Damn, hopefully he's okay and can make a speedy recovery.

Definitely throws a wrench into this week.

@BShark so, do u think his heart is fine? Fluids maybe for flu? If his heart was the problem would they have taken him to KC?

Was it reported that he ended up at KC?

@drgnslayr just hearing bits and pieces. Needed fluids, for sure. Heard he was light headed, made me think he had flu, vomiting maybe. This past yr I had a bout like that. My son had to come over late one night and take me to the ER. Pumped me full of fluids, I couldn't walk in w/out help. So weak! Guessing it was something like that. Really surprising nobody else has been sick as much flu is going around.

I have two questions for anyone who has legit answers.

                        1. Who do you suppose Bill talk to at halftime in the KU locker room and was it a call or text?
                        2. Why does KU continue to use a "switching five" defense that inevitably ends up with Jamari guarding the opposition's big man?
BTW I thought Tad Boyle did a marvelous job coaching last night. With younger, inferior talent, he had an answer for DP AND he was able to take advantage of our five-man switch.

                              Found this

Right before KU left, Self said he was feeling some abnormal chest issues. Based on past issues, Self said he didn't feel good about it. He was very dehydrated and has AFib. He couldn't get on the plane. He could have coached last night, and he can coach today. No limitation. It was suggested that he not fly last night due to the altitude. Bottom line is Coach Self is okay, and he's back on the court. #kubball

My take is that he was dehydrated, but from what I don’t know. When you are dehydrated, your heart has to beat faster to compensate for a lesser volume. Whether this threw him into a-fib or he already has a-fib and went into what is called RVR (rapid ventricular rate) could cause chest pain as the heart gets its own blood supply when the heart is resting. Faster heart rate with decreased blood volume means less blood to the heart muscle which already has narrowing in the arteries as evidenced by his need for stents. If you add altitude with lower oxygen concentration, it adds further stress on the heart. Also, with dehydration, the potassium may be low or high that can affect the heart rhythm. If you are dehydrated enough, you are also in acute renal failure that would be further stressed by a higher altitude. Hope it makes sense whether you wanted to know it or not.

Sounds like precautions were taken given what was happening (and his past), it was ultimately the right decision. Sounds like he will coach Saturday which is a good thing to hear.
