NCAA football is already greatly diminished by kids quitting on their teams in the postseason. Every game you play you're risking your pro career. I guess coming back for another season is riskier. A kid already with millions in the bank is set for life if he's wise. Darryn could be set for life and close to generational wealth if he came back anyways.

I'm sure there's other comps, but since I follow UW I'll not forget Frank Kaminsky after his junior year writing a column for the Madison newspaper on why he's coming back instead of entering the draft. In effect it was why go pro and play for a bottom feeder when you could be playing in college in front of big crowds for fans who pay more attention? He was from a comfortable living situation which makes it a lot easier of course. Not sure of DP's situation. Stay in school. He'll be forgotten in the NBA unless he is as good as some think he is. Cement your legacy as the next NCAA champion! Fans will talk about you the way we do Clyde L and Wilt and Danny. Danny was the best example of stay in school the NCAA maybe has ever seen.

@wissox Or.... hear me out... play like a legend, win the National Championship as a freshman, be MVP of the tournament, quiet the critics, go have a legendary career in the NBA, beat SGA and Wemby in the olympics and make enough money to do what you want the rest of your life.

        Rock Chalk!

@bskeet That would be ideal! But be like the UCONN kid who came back and won two in a row!

Here's another crazy stat, insofar as so few who have done it throughout our history and yet DP is "not playing hard enough, hates basketball, is too soft, etc."
This guy has some crazy stats. Who thinks of this?

I'm just going to say it... Darryn Peterson's shooting slump is because we run NOTHING for him! We just give him the ball, head of the key, and tell him to go 1-on-1. He just stands on the perimeter, then suddenly runs towards the ball to receive it.. then goes 1-on-1.

              This is ridiculous.

In a couple hours I can go coach a team and run off ball schemes to free up a shooter. He should be running right through the defenses, creating his own off ball screens by running by his own players. This isn't rocket science. He should be taking 20 catch-and-shoots per game! If he does, his % will bounce back to 45% or so.

I smell a run! (better buy more toilet paper)

Do you think the way defenses are guarding Peterson these days has an influence on the shots he's getting lately. Seems like every team is throwing 2-3 guys his way and he's not getting open looks.

@crimsonblu22 Looks like it changed in November. Same for me when we moved to the new host--I had to create a new name becuse my automatic sign in didn't work in the new site but 'prox got it fixed. RCIT's old user name's post count ended in November but the reputation points for her carried over to RCIT-0. Mine did, too.

Easy to do. I found the old KU Buckets one and chose it for nostalgia and HEM had the picture of Naismith on his. I've changed mine several times.

I have had the 0 at the end of my name ever since @approxinfinity updated but am starting over in post count because of the stupid 0 at the end.

@RockChalkinTexas-0 start a new thread please? I simply need a list of things that need to be addressed. No need for anger or frustration. Just tell me whats left and i will fix it. If you want the 0 gone, i can do that i think.

Well in a way it has been nice to see DP average 32 minutes over the last 7 games. Now I’m not hating but here are some numbers. Kansas has gone 3-4 in those seven games with two losses coming to teams that aren’t even on the bubble for the NCAA tournament. In this 7 game uptick of minutes DP has shot the ball 41/113 good for 36% and only 31% if you take away the 10/15 performance against one of the worst defensive teams in the P4 Kansas state. Do you think he wasn’t playing because he didn’t want people to see he is quite the next Kobe or KD. I’ve seen zero evidence that this kid is the best player in CBB this season heck I’d argue he isn’t top 25. Now this isn’t on DP he didn’t rank himself but look at the last 10 first overall picks. I would literally take every single player over DP and it’s not close at all besides the one international player. Watching the tournament this week AJ and Flemings can get their own shot about anytime they want to. DP can’t get open, he is simply put not athletic enough to do so at this level. Again not his fault but I’m calling it right now he is the next Kwame Brown. Mark my words he will be one of the biggest draft busts in NBA history if he goes number 1.

Darius Acuff is a pretty big 'what if' for KU. He has impacted games (especially offensively) far more than DP imo. Probably don't end up with Melvin if they take Acuff, but perhaps a wing/2-guard to play with Acuff would've been interesting

@kjayhawks2.0 i dont think he will be a huge draft bust. Hes very intelligent afaict and i think he will be a competent pro for many years. I dont think the team quitting can be put on him. Thats coaching. Floor is a very good role player imo. But a lot of your points have merit.

@approxinfinity I think he can be a off the bench spot up shooter at the next but don’t see him being a super star as projected. I’ll always wonder if this team was better without his circus, beat several really good teams without him.

@kjayhawks2.0 i think the answer is nuanced. We were better without him at one point, but the lack of depth with this roster and the short rotation of usage of that depth and the Big 12 grind… all of that contributes to a “no” from me if the question is “would we be better now?” We would have gotten the brakes beaten off of us down the stretch, imo. Also our off season would have been a crisis if he hadnt signed with us. Flory would have left and im not sure who we sign with a bare cupboard. I dont put this BS on DP.

I figured we'd probably know about DP eventually. Just didn't think it would be this soon. And now we know. An 18-year-old with an NBA future experiences FULL BODY CRAMPS during bball preseason and is taken to the hospital. Imagine how painful that would be. Imagine how frightening that would be. To me, it explains it all. It made it almost impossible for Bill to develop DP and for DP to develop as a teammate. What I can't figure out is why his agent and his family thought it would be best to try to hide it. Had we known, every KU fan would have been sympathetic and understanding and supportive. That's the part I don't understand. (Because you know the NBA would have found out before the draft) Above board would have been much better.
