The impact on NIL donations to programs I'm reading is already starting to suffer. Give to the athletic department fund you read and so you give a wad sitting around to your favorite university so they can get this guy or that guy and then he drives on down I-70 or I-35 to some other university with your wad of money now in his own pockets, or at least some of it. I'm guessing these donations are going to dry up real fast. I understand the D(n)P situation is different, but goodness how many people made sure that D(n)P got paid and have been rewarded very little for their investment in the program. I'd be pissed, but I don't have to worry about it because I don't have the kind of money needed to donate to KUAthletics.

@wissox83 wait, isnt Kansas basketball being a top 10 program again reward enough? Do you think Flory comes back if DP decommits? Are you sure Tiller, Melvin, and Tre come?

I would argue that said people should stick to selling cars or whatever they do.

Will we pay that much for the next DP? Probably not. We'll do what we need to do every year to field a competitive team.

@approxinfinity the question becomes could we have gotten a AJ or another top 5 recruit that actually played over DP? I also was told DP coming was huge in Flory and several other players staying or coming in but they may regret it if he never plays a meaningful minute here.

I’ve read several times the players really like DP and want him to be able to play! Tre said that when he’s on the court it opens it up for the rest of them due to him being dble and triple teamed. He’s getting treatments 4 times a day. I believe he wants to be a teammate!

@crimsonblu22 I want him to play too! I just don't think he will, for whatever reason(s)

yesterday's update from Self was so riveting. I'll just keep the rest of my thoughts to myself.

He's practicing and doing everything," Self said. "The thing about it is, it's unfair for people to assume the way something is because it's not like that. He hasn't been 100%. He hasn't been in a situation where he can do the things he is capable of doing, even though he's practicing. There are still some limitations. And part of the rehab part of him is him practicing. That's part of it. Just because he's practicing doesn't mean he's 100%, even though gosh dang he looks good to me. And he can do some things that nobody else can do. So I think we're definitely — of course I said this last week too — but I think we're really, really close. And hopefully immediate. But who knows, it may be a little while longer. But certainly, I feel like he's put himself in a position that he can help our team if in fact his body feels up to it. His rhythm is getting back and that kind of stuff. But he still probably doesn't have that explosion that he had prior to straining his hamstring and getting these cramps all the time."

@BeddieKU23 That’s my issue with most of this, if he is well enough to practice without causing further injury, why in the hell can’t he play? I get protecting his future but how many no contact injuries have we seen ruptured achilles or torn ACLs? Would be more acceptable if he was at home on the couch and not leaving the house to prevent injuries. Maybe he’s a hypochondriac idk but if you are basically doing everything but playing I’d say you have almost the same amount of risk of injury at this point. You play 4 hours of games every week and probably practice for 25-30 hours a week. Something just doesn’t add up in this situation, we just have to support him and hope it works out for him to play.

@BeddieKU23 at point I’m betting it turns into a Remy Martin type of deal where he basically plays in the NCAA tournament only. Which yes it did work for Remy and us pretty well but people forget Remy played most of that season. If memory serves me correct he ended playing in over 30 games and basically shut it down the last 3 weeks before the NCAA tournament started. He played most the year with the team.

@bskeet yes I think you are correct, my point is he was playing the majority of the year and building with the team. He didn’t just show up and go. Practicing with the team does help DP but nothing compares to playing together in game situations IMO

Remy sat almost all February that year, returned at the end of season, played in Big-12 tourney and NCAA's.

I think if this next go doesn't go positive, they will shut it down for the season. Just my current opinion there.

@BeddieKU23 I’ve had that feeling for much of the year l’m just waiting for the official announcement at this point. The odd thing is he supposedly has been dealing with this for a few years and still was playing. Just not getting paid which adds to the head scratching of this deal.

OK, here is the thing . If you really wanna know the truth- - -I really don't think Darryn has hardly ANY SAY in this whole dam thing. If that is true then that's truly sad. I mean I'm feeling that the show is being totally run by mommy and daddy. This kid has had his decisions made probably for almost entire time, by Mom & Dad and agents so on and so on.

So now Darryn is what 18 ? - 19 years old? -- and I think the parents are still wanting to make the decisions , Darryn is an adult now I am beginning to think the wrong people are still trying to tell Darryn make the decisions. IF that's the case and Darryn wants to play then these agents AND THE PARENTS need to step back and let it go. He is a grown man starting his own life, his future is in front of him. The longer he sits the more he faces the possibility of his value going down. I think the wrong people right now are still making the decisions

@ROCKCHALK2025 you're probably right, but what's really sad is that HE IS THE ONLY ONE that should have any say in it. Unless he's truly, seriously injured.

Maybe this circus would make sense if we knew about the onset of his issue. He could play in prep school and all star games, There was a hammy cramping and moving to a quad tightness. I think the hype over Darryn and $50,000,000 made the agent who has an iron in this fire maybe pushing the big money into the families face. He could possibly sit until the ISU contest five games from now. An Ill wind is already being felt in the distance and at this time it really shouldn't be.

This is all way too dramatic. So many rumors floating around. I dunno what's what, but it sure seems like we got scammed, but the NIL donors got it much worse.

I hope he plays, but it seems like cramping is an issue he's had since high school at least. Maybe he can spend some of that estimated $4 million and see some specialists? Mayo Clinic? Let's get a move on here! Clock's a tickin'. time's a wastin'.

I can see it now ... we grow some team chemistry without him, then he decides to play in the Big Dance and all chemistry and feel is lost.

@nuleafjhawk Exactly what I was trying to say. Darryn is a grown up now , it's his future we are talking about here. So if it's his future then he should be the one to have the final say --- not the agents- - -not his parents

@rockchalkjayhawk right at what point do the donors just say I’m done? I gave you millions to field a championship caliber team and the key piece didn’t play. I’m saying right now, this current model of college athletics is not sustainable for the future.
