@jayballer54 Don’t worry … I’m right with the LORD … and a peace with my future … and I really look forward to that time. Thanks for your comment.

@Red.Rooster Praying for all the best for you.

@KUSTEVE and we all need to be grateful for all the blessings @Red.Rooster has given us!

@justanotherfan KU does generally play out west at least once most years. In fairly recent history, we’ve played UNLV, San Diego St., Cal, and USC. This year we got road games at Stanford in Sacramento and Arizona St. Because of California law, KU can’t play any public schools in California, but there’s always Stanford and USC as options in PAC 12 to play at along with the Arizona, Washington, and Oregon schools out there. I’d like to us return the Washington game and play out in Seattle considering some of the recruiting successes KU has had in Seattle over the years.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I thought the law only prevented trips by publicly funded Calif schools to schools in offending states? No?
-
@mayjay It prevents trips to those states and from public schools hosting schools in those states as well. The Stanford game was originally supposed to be against Cal in Berkeley, but the law forced the cancellation of that game and KU replaced them with Stanford.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 It just seemed so unlikely, so I decided to look it up. The California law only applies to travel to states deemed to have discriminatory laws. (Calif Attorney General discussion: https://oag.ca.gov/ab1887)
Multiple news stories last winter say that at the time it was enacted, UCalif and KU were planning a home and home series. Because Cal could not travel to KU, KU would not travel to Berkeley, so the discussions were cancelled. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2017/feb/03/lgbt-advocates-push-repeal-laws-deemed-obsolete-or/
The Stanford trip was already planned as the return trip from last year. An extension to make it a 4 game series was announced even before that game, before California’s law was passed. http://www.gostanford.com/news/2016/11/22/mens-basketball-stanford-and-kansas-agree-on-four-game-series.aspx
I could not find anything stating no public school can host schools from KS or other states. If my research is wrong, can you steer me to something?
-
D. — I incorporate all prior arguments and discussions.
-
I forgot about the California law.
Without the ability to do Home and Home, that limits KU’s options. That’s out of their control obviously, but I doubt the legislature backs off that position anytime soon.
-
I love that Cali discriminates against whomever it determines is discriminating. It’s perfect for that state.
-
@mayjay The ASU series might be the replacement for the Cal series then because I know KU replaced Cal with another school out west.
-
Put your money where your mouth is, California. If one of your teams makes the NCAA tournament, then demand the team forfeit the game if they are scheduled against a team from a state you deem as haters.
-
I want to play Mizzou and WSU every year. We just have to keep going with Self making us “elite” to the point that we will mash these two wannabes every year!
It is looking like the Big 12 will be down this year… What if our only real threat is WVU? Is that good basketball? When we only have a few games of high interest every year?
I want us to kick Mizzou and WSU’s butt so hard every year that they will beg to stop the series!
I want to be able to tell their fans, “Chickenhawk? Better than being a chicken sh#t!”
WE have the capabilities to truly keep these teams as “wannabes” in everyone’s heads by blowing them out by 40 every year.
-
Multiple upvotes for @Red-Rooster our MVP! Praying for wisdom and encouragement for you.
-
Nt unless it’s the tourney. It would break my heart to beat him, and I would hate losing, too. He is different the other guys.
He is Dan the Man!
-
@Red.Rooster Best news of all, be blessed.
-
Blessings to you, good sir, and continued good health through the holidays and beyond.
-
@wissox Thank You for your comment … .

I love how friendly this board is.
-
I can really appreciate your condition. I take care of my dad that now has advanced dementia and my mom had early onset dementia when she passed away so I see it as a likely condition for me in the future and I can already see early signs. My prayers are with you my friend.

That law already cost Kansas and a few other states the opportunity to host games in the NCAA tournament. You can say what you will, but the money isn’t flowing away from the states that don’t have those types of laws. Not trying to turn this political (we have had this debate already and I don’t want to re-start it here), but the NCAA and pro sports leagues have stated their position on this. Its up to the individual states to decide how they want to respond, and whether hosting NCAA events and pro events like the draft and the all star game (as well as other events like conventions and such) is important to the local economy or not.
-
Isn’t Wichita hosting NCAA games in 2018?
-
North Carolina is on the list as well and there are a ton of NCAA games hosted there. Missouri must not be on the list, didn’t KU lose in the Sprint center last year? I see no effect so far.
Who cares if KU plays any Cali schools? Other than that giant who played for the Anteaters those schools are usually boring. UCLA is only relevant currently because of Lavar Ball. Yuck. Can he go to China too?
-
Here is the $64K question…what if the NCAA assigns a California Public school to play in Wichita, would it forfeit the game? Having said that and considering how the East and West coasts are catered, there is no chance the NCAA would ever do this. Remember that the higher seed KU had to play UCLA in its own backyard.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Higher seeded UNC had to play KU in St. Louis in 2012. Pretty common when there’s debate between 1 seeds to give one team the higher seed but give the lower seeded team home court.
-
I pick A
If we happen to play Missou or WSU in the tourney or in a fund raiser game then I’m ok with that.
-
Yes, but…San Jose is in California while St Louis is in Missouri. Yes, it is a little closer but St. Louis is by no means a KU town like KC is.
On the other hand, how many time have UNC and Duke played in North Carolina? I would say a lot.
-
@Red.Rooster Dude. Much love to you man.
-
They are. The NCAA did not take away any games or events that had already been awarded. The D2 football championship has been held in KCK the last few years.
Those sites can’t bid for future events, which means KCK and Wichita will miss the next round of bids.
-
They did take away games from North Carolina although now they seem to be back in good graces.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Since when is the Bay Area UCLA territory? It’s a very apt comparison.
-
My point is that fans from a state tend to root for the other state (or conference) teams when playing teams from out of state (or conference) at the NCAA, I know I do and so do most people I know with a few exceptions. Let say UCLA is #1 and KU is #2 and they play in Wichita (not necessarily a KU stronghold), who do you think the audience would support? My guess is that it would be overwhelmingly for KU.
KC is a very rare town where an out of state team has the bigger fan base than the state teams. The huge growth of the Kansas side and proximity to KC has a lot to do with it. In 10-15 years the metro population will be roughly equal on both sides of the state line.
-
I think some of the Mizzou fans shifted allegiance to Kansas after Mizzou quit the Big 12. Granted, these were not the hardcore antlers, but if you look at fan bases there are always a bunch of fair weather fans in them.
-
The largest concentration of KU alumni is in the KC Metro area and a fair number of them live in the Missouri side, so naturally the entire Metro are is heavily pro KU. interestingly enough, the second largest fan base in the Metro area is KSU and then MU.
-
I can believe that.
I could be wrong, but thinking back to my days in the late 70’s in Lawrence it seemed like most of KC was Tiger territory.
-
In the 70s, the Missouri side had a much larger percentage of the population of the area so the MU fan base share was larger. Since then , most of the growth has been in the Kansas side and while some parts of the Missouri side, like Lee’s Summit have been growing fast, the bigger growth is still in the Kansas side, particularly Johnson County, although the Speedway and the Legends have given Wyandotte County and KCK a huge boost.
-
Somehow I had forgotten about this forum. Glad to see posters from 247, Scout, and LJW but best of all is seeing jaybate and HighEliteMajor. They’ve posted some of the all-time best comments at the old LJW site before you needed to use Facebook to verify identity.
-
That reminds me ESPN merging to facebook comments was awful.
-
@drgnslayr About the only thing that would be more satisfying then beating Wichita, Kansas State, and Missouri in the same year, would be to make it into the Final Four. Maybe winning the BIG12 Conference and Conference Tournament.
-
@Red.Rooster I know that it’s not the same, but I was paralyzed when a crackhead put a knife in my neck at an ATM machine on New Year’s Eve 1996. Been in a C6 quad ever since. Life events come and go without any reason or fairness. Best we can do is to let others into our lives and keep on going as long as possible.
