I promise you Drew told his team to foul Mason. How did that work out? The cat can recruit, he just canāt x and O it. I posted this in another topic. Is there coach that has done less with the talent Drew has recruited? If I was him I would swallow my pride and attend a Coach Self camp. He could learn something, and make him millions.

@brooksmd What Drew inexplicably had no clue about was how to get his guys to drive inside in the 2nd half to foul LL out. No passing to high post. Mottley can drive, why not feed him? Baylor fans must be frustrated. So must Mottley.

Not going to claim that he is a great or even very good Xs and Os coach, but what talent? Does he have anyone on this team that was a top 50 ranked player coming in? Iām asking as I donāt know, but my guess would be no. Regardless, much less talent than KU, AZ, UNC, Duke, UK and probably many other teams. Heās gotten pretty good results out of this bunch and they won 20 six years in a row and made an E8. So, IMO, he doesnāt deserve all the flack he getsā¦

The second half is the prime example of why Scott Drew is a turd. Motley was great in the first, drew LLs third foul early in the second only to touch the ball about 3 more times all night, while the rest of the bears jacked up 3s. Lol I could out coach Scott Drew.

Either way you slice it, this aināt your big brotherās Baylor Bears. These guys are tougher. They DID benefit from some horrible-looking bank threes, but we also benefited from some bad calls. Props to them tonight. Itās a two-horse race. If we can figure a way to beat them on the road, that should at least seal a share for us.
I noticed afterwards that Self was slightly more cordial to Drew afterwards. Playing Drewās zone probably bridges the gap a bit between the two in Selfās mind.

Part of this was brilliance from Self changing defenses and point of emphasis.

Agree. Iām not a huge fan of Drew but the job he has done with this team is tremendous. As I mentioned earlier in the thread he has three players that would very likely be at KU if KU didnāt basically pass on them in Freeman, Wainright and McClure. Well, Freeman and McClure could have easily been Jayhawks, not sure KU ever showed much interest in Wainright.
So letās look at what Drew has on this team. Lucas type of ranking PG in Lindsey, fringe top 75 kid McClure (fell off late after starting higher in rankings), fringe top 300 Maston, JUCO scrub Omat, JUCO , NR JUCO Acuil, Top 150 Motley, and top 75 guards Wainright and Freeman both of whom slumped in the rankings iirc. Drew had this team on the precipice of being the #1 team in the country and was #1 earlier. Hell of a job.
Edit I forgot Lecomte, TOP 300 GUARD coming out of hs.

@BShark heās a solid coach but they made no attempt to get the ball to motley in second, we will always find a way to get JJ or Mason the ball.

@kjayhawks A bit easier to get a guard the ball in a zone defense versus a big. Still Drew should figure it out, but probably not a fair comparison.

@chriz agreed but Baylor played zone most the game and JJ got plenty of touches, he shot more than anyone else on the team. Iām a basketball coach myself. Idk what you could call that but poor coaching.

@kjayhawks I hear ya. If I recall correctly, didnāt Motley get all his points posting up against our bigs? I know in the 2nd half he eventually did get touches but we doubled him. Then the one time we didnāt double him, he scored.
Josh isnāt a post-up big, heās obviously more of a small 4 in a 5-guard lineup. I think Josh is the PERFECT zone-buster because of his passing ability (in addition to his scoring) and knew heād have a great game tonight.
Motley simply isnāt as talented as JJ, so thatās part of it. Should Motley have known how to pass out of a double-team? Yeah, probably. But he just didnāt. I think thatās where the coaching comes from. At the end of the day, Motleyās a post player and itās tough to post in a zone, particularly when double-teams are flying at you and you donāt know how to pass out of it.

@Crimsonorblue22 I donāt get why that report about Vick is even coming out now. Kind of stupid in my opinion since it happened over a year ago. Someone leaked it just to drag his name through the mud and pile on to all the other crap thatās going on. In all reality itās really none of our business. Obviously the cops and/or the victim didnāt want to pursue a case and it was handled internally by the school.

@Crimsonorblue22 everyone always says we get the calls at home and tonight we shot 27 FTS to 6 but Mason drove the ball to the hoop in the second and drew fouls while Baylor jacked up 3s. Anyone that watched that game knows thatās what happened.

@HawkInMizery It also very well could have been the same nut case that Bragg was hooked up with a few weeks agoā¦ that entire family is strangeā¦ Someone not governed by the rules of the investigation could have given out all the info they hadā¦2nd or 3rd parties, counsel, a misery grad, who knows ??

@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah and all of the scouts are hearing about that report now which should have never come out. Those investigations are supposed to be restricted and only certain people are supposed to have access to them.
