THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS

The contracts between TWC Sport KC Chanel and KU was negotiated by Zenger. They get exclusive rights to several KU basketball, football and several other sports games and ESPN 3 blacks out all these games in the State of Kansas and areas like the greater KC Metro area. Although we are mostly familiar with the men’s basketball games that get blacked out, several football, women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer and track and field events get blacked out as well. How much money do you think KU gets in return? Nothing, Zero, zippo, zilch…KU gets paid by in-kind programming and features about sports at KU. What do you think the audience for a feature on the women’s rowing team is? Not counting the parents of the athletes probably in the dozens? maybe hundreds? The TV audience for one blacked out men’s basketball is likely several time larger than the combined audience of all the features run in an entire year about all the minor sports combined.
A large number of die hard KU fans in the Kansas City Metro area have been left with no options and most every body I know around here hates Zenger…even more than I do. LOL.

If you can take care of the pop ups and ads, first row sports.com is an option - they have games for all sports across the world. I don’t use it anymore because I have the Cox sports tier, but it worked for me in the past.

@Ralph My sling TV shows it too, hopefully we can watch it. The thing I most hate about the TV deal is it favors big city, Kansas is full of smaller towns like the one I live in. Most think KU fans are only from the big cities but I’m not and know several others aswell, hell I know farmers that are big KU fans.
-
@kjayhawks I looked ahead and it shows Washburn and Emporia State also. We’ll find out in a couple of hours.
-
I use GOatdee.net for sports streaming.
If you have an ad blocker, this site is hands down the best streaming site that works 99% of the time.
-
@jayballer54 A spoofer will hide your location so you don’t get blacked out. If you’d like, I can PM you on how to get it set up.
-
PHOF!
-
-
@JayHawkFanToo well you were correct the volleyball game is blacked out on espn3. But I’m watching it on the watch espn app.
-
@Ralph I’m wondering if the app is so new that the providers are actually allowing some things to be shown now that will eventually get filtered out by sweetheart deals between individual providers & partnering sources, Does that even make sense? I’m sure as hell trying it next & will keep you guys posted.
-
@globaljaybird looked it up the watch espn app launched 25 Oct 2010.
-
@Ralph weird!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 what’s that
-
@Ralph that you are blacked out on ESPN 3 but get it on the watch ESPN app
-
@Crimsonorblue22 same way I watched late night and a couple other things. I’ve said try the app a couple of times and have been told it won’t work.
-
@Ralph guess that shows I don’t know shit … I just recently came across it lookingfor alternatives as I’m now in SW misery on suddenlink & will likely be out of even radio coverage this season. Am just not a fan of anything espn, ABC, Disney, blah, blah, so I rarely ever look at anything represented of their networks…
-
After dropping cable and going to sling I had to learn different ways to get what I want. In April I will drop the espn package and get the fox package to watch the Royals.
-
@Ralph glad it works! Don’t understand but glad you can get it
-
@HawkChamp I also use stream2watch.eu. Once I fight through the pop ups it works well
-
I’m watching Ben Mac, Cole, b rush and Wiggs.
-
ESPN 3 was blacked out for me aswell. The thing that I don’t get is if use the watch ESPN app on my phone or tablet connected to my homes WIFI its blacked out as well but if I don’t and use my mobile data it is not blacked out but I only can watch for minutes at a time due to data usage (watched a game LY and was about 2.5gs for it). It makes no sense to me.
-
@kjayhawks I use a roku to stream it with home WiFi, I would rather watch it on a tv than a tablet
-
@Ralph Forgive me for I am not super tech savvy but what is roku
-
@kjayhawks a streaming device. how do you watch sling
-
@kjayhawks The ESPN app looks for the service provider. In your home wifi (I presume) it has to go through your television or cable provider or satellite internet if you have it. Your home provider has a contract with ESPN that results in the blackout because the provider blocks it in certain areas. Your phone network provider apparently doesn’t.
In my case, I get everything because we are far away from blackout areas, but I still sign in to TW on the ESPN app.
Is the game available on the app after it is over, or is the blackout permanent?
-
@kjayhawks Roku is the future. For as little as 30 bucks, you have a device that streams tv onto your tv through the internet. There are gazillions of channels, some cost, some are free, but you have tons and tons of choices to watch.
-
@kjayhawks Russell Robinson set the standard for team-oriented PG/combo guard in the Bill Self era. Devonte Graham may finally, actually be better. Thank you for posting a pix of #3 RR!
-
@mayjay I’m in the KC metro espn3 was blocked but the espn app worked for me, both streamed with the roku to my tv. Maybe I’m far enough east the app doesn’t show KC.
-
@mayjay The game is available within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the live broadcast.

@kjayhawks funny pic, is he letting it go or what there?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 looking at the net I’d say he ether just dunked it or went up for a tip in and pulled his hands back because it was good.
-
Just one more day before we get to over analyze an exhibition.
-
What else are we supposed to do, we have overanalyzed 18 year old kids for the past 5 months
-
Oh I’m excited for sure. I’ll have to find a stream for it since I will no doubt be blacked out for ESPN3.
-

-
Actually it makes sense. When you connect to wi-fi it goes through your internet provider which block the signal. if you stay with your cell provider, the signal comes through your cell and not through your internet provider. I should try with T-Mobile since I have unlimited internet and I have a huge chunk of the high speed type already stashed away.
-
You can download an app on your internet browser and stream it through your computer. I use Hola! and it says I’m in the UK and I can watch the game that way. I’ll test it on my phone tomorrow and see if it’ll work through my Chromecast
-
If you have the right TV set, you can mirror your phone screen on your TV set…
-
So I just downloaded Hola! on my phone.
What it does is put a new VPN number on your phone so it looks like you are in another country. I believe I will be able to stream the game from my phone on my own home wifi and Chromecast it.
More to come tomorrow.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yea I can’t mirror without connecting to WiFi unfortunately
-
In that case you are not mirroring but most likely you are streaming. Many of the newer cell phones and TV sets have the option of duplicating the phone screen on your TV without any other equipment. I am waiting for Black Friday to get one with that specific feature.
-
@JayHawkFanToo have you tried the watch espn app
-
I downloaded an IPad app called Betternet which apparently moves your IP address to a different part of the country. To test it I tried to get the KU vs texas volleyball game on watch espn and got it. My son tried to get the VB match on his phone watch espn app and it was blacked out. I’m not guaranteeing anything but there’s hope. It sux that the AD hosed us by selling out to TW. This is going to be a special year!
-
Can anyone explain to me if games are sold out how would it hurt to put them on ESPN 3?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 No. Because it is stupid.
-
KU basketball games have been sold out as far back as I remember. There is no rational explanation why they should be blacked out…other than the KSU alumnus who happens to be the AD trying to limit viewership.
-
Game day!
