Isn't Chukwu supposed to be visiting like right now ??
-
@konkeyDong no way would our prized star be asked to “pay his way”! I heard one reason he looked at the draft was because of family financial reasons. Don’t know if it’s true.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 there’s no way Perry would give up his scholarship he worked hard for that
-
@Crimsonorblue22 It’s just an answer to a hypothetical. I don’t realistically think Perry would be asked to go off scholarship. I just think he’d be the most logical choice to start with if you were going to go that route. For some reason I remember hearing that Brannen’s parents moved to town, but now I can’t find anything that corroborates that. But if that were the case, he’d be a potential candidate too.
At any rate, we’re putting the cart before the horse here. Chukwu isn’t in the fold and it doesn’t matter unless that happens.
-
@konkeyDong said:

Is that because he would pay in-state tuition, which is much cheaper than out-of-state?
-
@konkeyDong I think BG’s parents are in kc area.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 agree 100%. there is no way the leader of the team, your leading scorer would give up his scholi, and WHY SHOUD HE? lets face it we are done and I’m fine with that, we have had a very solid recruiting class, 3 incoming recruits really solid, plus the transfer, its just time to focus on next year, I too believe probably Paschal will end up at Mich St or Virginia. yes true would of been nice but its not the end of the world, we will be fine, my question why we so anxious to boot a Jayhawk that’s already here kick him out. SERIOUSLY? plenty big men out of nexts year class of 2016 available, concentrate on them. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
…or any player could say he is an “undocumented” student; Kansas allows “undocumented” students to pay in-date tuition…talk about lunacy.
-
We have seen kids forced out but what do we gain this year by doing it. We’ve went through the possible’s- Traylor & Mickelson would need to quit basketball or graduate this summer, all of which we have zero info to back any claim that could happen. Extremely unlikely either would quit, unlikely they graduate if they hadn’t done so in May.
We’ve mentioned Lucas but he red-shirted and is just a junior so unless he’s on track to graduate early, again just a very unlikely option.
Then we have Greene who besides getting himself in the doghouse a few times and depending on who you ask about him, has serious NBA potential still left in him. He likes it here, his GF is at KU and from all things said by Self and family, Self really wants to see Greene succeed here. He would have already transferred if that was the way he wanted.
So what’s left to theorize because no other current player is leaving and why would anyone give a scholarship to someone who can’t even play this year.
What’s left is the pay your own way avenue. If his intentions are really to be at KU that’s his only route. But why pay for schooling at one, when you can get it paid for you by Michigan St, Nebraska, Iona, or Virginia.
I think the situation would be different if Chukwu was a player that could help us now, but he can’t and that’s what makes me think he’s here to see the campus in case something unexpected does happen. Hopefully some real news comes out that ends all this talk…
-
@JayHawkFanToo Lunacy indeed.
-
We see this every year. SOMEONE is transferring. I don’t know who BUT HCBS knows who it is.
-
@ParisHawk Yeah, Perry or Brannen wouldn’t have to pay as much. Also, Perry is on the cusp of a pro career, so the burden of taking a student loan for a year would be a lot less to him than anyone else, so that’s the logic.
-
Walk on pollard is transferring.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 AND Self said the Jayhawks were not looking to add any walk-ons at this time.
-
with Chukwu visiting and Coach Self stating he is not looking to add any walk-ons at this time. The Transfer speculation should hit full tilt!
-
@Statmachine any news on BG’s progress? Would think some sports writer would be checking it out?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 No, I haven’t heard of any new news BUT he did tweet that he and Frank were killing it or something like that the other day. Probably talking about a video game? If anything he is in good spirits lol.
-
So Crimson broke it Josh IS transferring as we speak. I dont think Self would make him do it unless that spot was going to be utilized immediately…
-
Ku still needs a player that’s on scholarship to go to make any room for the 7’2guy to even be on the team
-
Landon Lucas is in a good position to stay with Ellis, Traylor, Mickelson, and more than likely Cheick leaving next year. Lucas is not a flight risk due to the possibility at this time to get big minutes next year.
Ellis not a flight risk.
Traylor is Self’s golden boy/ spark off the bench. Not a flight risk
Our guards are all set and happy with their role if you ask me?
Our incoming Freshmen will be on campus this weekend.
Mickelson is the ONLY guy I could see transferring due to being stuck behind Cheick, Ellis, Traylor, Lucas, and Bragg. Probably in that order. He is a senior that has burnt his RS and the only saving grace is he should be able to finish up his course work this summer and transfer.
-
Josh Pollard is leaving because he doesn’t want to pay out of state tuition and is going to enroll at a school in Utah. The walk on comment is referencing a Pollard, Manning, Self type walk on who wouldn’t be good enough to merit a scholarship at KU.
If Paschal Chukwu does end up at KU, he would be the walk on for 2015-16 and moved onto scholarship in 2016-17. None of the current players on scholarship are going to be asked to move off scholarship.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Curious, how do you know all of this?
The KU Sports article on Pollard references Pollard paying out of state tuition which is only relevant if that’s an issue. It also makes mention of a family commitment, which given Pollard’s age and that his family is Mormon likely means Pollard is going on his Mormon mission which typically happens after the freshman year of college.
@Statmachine You’re the source for the Chukwu comment with the The Shiver article you referenced on the other thread about how that situation would play out should Chukwu choose KU.
-
@HighEliteMajor I’m itching to know also?
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chukwu
In the Igbo pantheon, Chukwu is the source of all other Igbo deities, and is responsible for assigning them their different tasks. The Igbo people believe that all things come from Chukwu, who brings the rains necessary for plants to grow and controls everything on earth and the spiritual world.
Bring the rains, big fella.
-
@approxinfinity I heard he did!
-
@approxinfinity Then maybe he can be accompanied by a large crew of Igbo agronomist’s to imbed rotating their rears in the seat of my tractor to sickle & scythe the veldt my orchard & pasture have become ?! Tell em’ it wouldn’t hurt to bring some paddles plus a mechanic for the endless PM to keep it running. Rained most of the night again & already have 15+ in for the past 30 days…
-
Way too much rain if you ask me…only 3 days with no rain in May in the KC Area.
-
@JayHawkFanToo So let met get this straight growing up in KC which is a heck of a lot closer to KU than MU, I couldn’t get In-State tuition but a person who isn’t even a citizen of this country can get in state tuition? What a load of crap!
-
Well, I guess we can abandon the transfer talk. According to Rustin Dodd’s twitter, KU has offered Paschal for 2016, but he’d have to pay his own way for a year or take a hiatus.
-
@konkeyDong Dodd said Chukwu would “likely” have to pay his own way. This is near dead, but not totally dead. The body is still breathing, though the breaths are very labored.
How does Chukwu pass up a scholarship at Michigan St?
-
@HawkInMizery Does KU not grant in state rates for the KC metro area? I always assumed they gave the in state rate to those who lived in Jackson County and those on MO side of KC.
-
So Pollard is gone, making one empty spot on the bench, via a walk-on scenario.
Question…
How many hours of school must a walk-on be enrolled in to qualify as a basketball walk-on?
1 hour, maybe?
So if Paschal can work out his room and board…
-
@drgnslayr My question is, If you are on the basketball team and room with the team and the team stays in the NEW team housing HOW much would a walk on have to pay to stay there? Wouldn’t a guy that is forced to stay with the team get a reduced rate?
-
@HighEliteMajor Apparently he will, at least according to the latest from the rumor mill. Hearing he’s no longer expected in Lansing (not yet confirmed, though). Now if he cancels on Iona…
-
@konkeyDong I checked online and all I saw about Chukwu cancelling MSU was this article.
It cites the Matt Scott article mentioning that he referenced Michigan, not MSU … but the Scott article has been corrected to say MSU … here’s the link.
Have you seen anything else?
-
@drgnslayr Back in my day, any athlete regardless of walk on or scholarship status had a minimum 2.0 GPA of 12 hours per semester.
To my knowledge it has moved up to 2.5 GPA, and maybe 15 hours per semester.
-
Thanks… I’ve never really thought about what it takes to be a walk-on.
-
The good.new is every athlete is held to the same standard to be eligible. Walk-on freshman girl volleyball player or senior male scholarship basketball player has the same minimum GPA and minimum hours required. Of course “on line” credits or “special majors” did not exist in my day and that can be a can of worms as UNC is finding out.
-
Passing thought : he signed Coleby instead of Chu-Chu because he has a bead on another big with higher upside for 2016, and wanted to clear a path for playing time for the new arrival. Maybe Chu would’ve prevented this from happening.
-
@HighEliteMajor Yeah, if I’d known the rumor had been started by something from Matt Scott, I would have never posted it. He seems like a nice guy, but he’s a total homer and completely unreliable for recruiting news.
-
@KUSTEVE I thought about that too. When Chukwu’s name came up, I was concerned it might cost us some other guys. But then I thought, “bird in the hand.” And that’s why I think he took Coleby – the “bird in the hand” theory.
You are right, though, Coleby’s not a roadblock yet (as part-timer for Ole Miss). However, I think Self would take Chukwu in a minute. Again, the “bird in the hand” – if Chukwu is what we think he is, or could be with develpment, take him now if possible. But that window may have shut.
Self did a great job securing Coleby.
@konkeyDong - He is a rather biased projector.
-
That is indeed the case and Kansas is not the only state that does that, California heaps lots of financial aid on top of that. Like I said…lunacy.
-
That would constitute improper benefits.
-
So my inside source told me that they sold Chukwu on walking on as we expected. But, they said he loved the idea and was eating it up. Apparently his parents/guardians are doing ok on the money aspect.
On top of that, he worked out for the coaches here and he didn’t on his Nebraska visit.
-
Matt is biased but he’s a KU recruiter so I have no problem with his one-sidedness.
He is though the most connected guy when it comes to 2 recruits in 2017, Michael Porter & Trae Young both of which we have serious interest in. He’s well connected with their families so sometimes Matt is actually going to know something.
