Tevin Mack
-
Interested to see if Tevin Mack is visiting this weekend. Not much confirmation he is, but there was one source last night on Twitter.
-
he will be visiting Texas This weekend
-
He had a good time at his visit to Austin
-
“Former VCU commit Tevin Mack did not orally commit to Texas on his unofficial visit over the weekend, his mom, Paula, tells Zagsblog.com. Mack, a 6-foot-6 senior wing out of Dreher High in Columbia, South Carolina, is still considering KU and Georgia. He’s also had Clemson, UCLA and West Virginia on his list of schools. Last week, Paula said her son would hold a Skype conference with KU’s coaches, who would take Tevin on a video tour of KU’s campus and facilities.”
Wow… we compete with a video tour? Doesn’t sound too likely for us, but then, the video tour of the new apartments might finally help us land a recruit!
I wonder, with all their money in Austin, what the player dorms look like?
-
Just switch the video to this Link and give him the Fax number to send his LOI.
-
@drgnslayr what spot or whose spot does he take for Texas?
-
-
Texas is doing what KU did in football, guarantee contracts for unproven results that end up costing a lot of long term money. I personally think Smart is overrated, but he seems to have a lot of fans.
-
@wrwlumpy So are all the Big Red bball fans. They can’t wait to see him play. They have high hopes for him.
-
I thought this kid would follow Shaka to UT. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if Self lands him, not Shaka’d, just pleasantly surprised.
-
@JayHawkFanToo It’s easy to bring it in a tourney as a flash in the pan, but to bring it every single game on a big time stage like the B12 is a different story. I agree, he does remind me a bit of Turner Gill and KU football. I think Shaka will get a rude awakening in the B12. I see him lasting 2-3 years and UT fans will be calling for his resignation. I think he had a great ride at VCU, but again, it’s not the B12. I love Turner Gill and he’s a great guy, just wasn’t D1 head football coaching material. I think the comparison, though different sports is fairly interesting to say the least.
-
@JayHawkFanToo If you think that the past few KU football coaches contracts were bad, you must not remember the “lifetime” contract that Jack Mitchell got for winning the 1961 Bluebonnet bowl. He was forced out after the 1966 season to be replaced by Pepper Rodgers.
-
Sorry, a little before my time and since I am older than most posters here, likely very few have heard of Jack Mitchell. Gill and Weiss, on the other hand, are pretty recent and likely everybody is familiar with them and the multimillion contracts KU is still paying.
-
Smart has not won a single regular season championship in his entire career. He did not win one while in the weak Colonial Conference and he did not win one while in the A-10 either. He is like the Kardashians, he is famous for being famous and not necessarily for his record.

“@EvanDaniels: Tevin Mack told Scout he will likely decide on Tuesday. He said he’s down to 3 schools. Has visited Texas.”
-
@JayHawkFanToo I just saw your post on Smart. Smart did do something that gain him fame, and he did something that deserves high recognition – he got a team to the Final Four. Not only that, it was a team that was in a play-in game. Of course, VCU beat top seeded Kansas in a game we’d rather forget. While I know you don’t place much value on this achievement – relative to conference stuff – a large percentage of the basketball universe does.
The point that you’re perhaps making though is he had his 15 minutes of fame. He has not proven that he is anything more than a good coach that had a nice run one season. And he’s lived off that burst of fame for quite a while now. I’m with you there.

Tevin Mack to announce Tuesday; former Mizzou F Johnathan Williams III lists KU as possible destination http://ljw.bz/1HkNNha #kubball
-
#LONGHORNS is where he is going. Just saw.
-
He was probably going there any way. I think KU picking up Vick made his decision a lot easier.
-
UT will have a dangerous back court in a couple years! They signed a pg, sg, and a sf all inside the top 50. Eric Davis, Kerwin Roach Jr., and Tevin Mack. Its going to be good for the Big 12 if you ask me! IF their new head coach can have some early success recruiting in the deepest pond in the US and on the court then he could give KU a run for its money?
-
I just saw a this link on Williams. Sounds like we’re not his main focus.
But did anyone see this kid on the market – Paschal Chukwu?
Also, I saw at kusports.com that UK is the leader with Papagiannis if he did come to college and that he would be a one year guy. So that looks dead. If he’s a one year guy, then it should be.
-
@HighEliteMajor I saw that Paschal was on the market BUT I think HCBS wants another American born BIG for the WUG. The way he has stopped recruiting Papagainnis and was talking about Williams leads me to believe he NEEDS another big for the WUG? With a name like Paschal Chukwu I cant imagine he is indeed an American? I could be wrong but with Diallo out for the WUG we need another BIG that can fill the 5 spot desperately if you know what I mean?
-
@HighEliteMajor As far as UK leading for Papagiannis on kusports.com I could get better information from a psychic hotline! 247 sports said that Vick was 88% UK and 12% KU. These recruiting sites are a joke!

@Statmachine I don’t know, I’m not sure any big we bring in fresh would better than our guys right now. I’m with you on the recruiting sites. Never know what you’re getting. I am a mere reporter of information there.
-
@HighEliteMajor " I am a mere reporter of information there."
I completely get that lol. Thanks for posting I do enjoy reading what you have to say!
-
Here is a peek at Chukwu… he is from Nigeria and is not eligible for WUG… but seriously… who gives a f&%# about WUG! We should sign this guy! Not many guys his size floating around in HS.
-
@drgnslayr Wow … could you imagine how good he would be if he had a full year to practice against Lucas, Traylor, and Mickels … er, uh, … a full year practicing?
Seriously, though, add this kid and Bolden to Bragg and Lucas for 2016-17, that might be pretty solid.
-
I think all these players transferring from one school to another is rather disgusting. And commitments and decommitments. I can understand those from VCU or Florida St. that ask for a release of the LOI. But i don’t like it when there are so many decommitments.
I wasn’t aware until this morning that Caleb Swanigan had decommitted from Michigan State. It couldn’t have been more than 30 days ago that he committed to the Spartans. I wonder what he knows now that he didn’t know then. I just read that he has now committed to Purdue.
-
@drgnslayr wu tang clan ain’t nothin to chuk with! Holy smokes! Would be fun to see how far we could develop a kid like that.
-
I loved the coaches comment about being completely thrown off guard by his unhappiness. Called this generation of kids " the microwave generation". And he is completely right!! This kid would have started this year and they returned an All-American type PG, sounds to me he would have been fed plenty with development…
Maybe it will be KU’s gain but we won’t be the only fish after him…
-
Really hard to say. I mean… come on… the guy is 7’2" and looks pretty coordinated and he only averaged a couple points/rebs and averaged only 9 minutes a game? I can’t believe it would have been that way at Kansas last year for this guy. Even if Cliff had stayed eligible. His FG% was 66%… far above everyone else on his team. They couldn’t have created some offense around this guy, while making him a huge defensive asset? This guy offers immediate defensive help, something Self puts above everything else. He would have seen the court.
Of course, now that he is transferring, the coaches say he would have started. They had a better option last year?
I think his stat line is what should raise the red flag about his unhappiness. At that slow pace, he may have never been able to build a decent stat line and earn himself guaranteed NBA money.
He really doesn’t look so different from JoJo. Good feet and hands… coordinated. Needs more strength and confidence. I know if I had a guy like that on my squad, I’d be working with him to plug him in and get him going immediately.
-
I remember seeing some of Chukwu’s games on the AAU circuit and he was all defense. He was one of the best shot-blockers in his class coming in. His offense isn’t there and even with a year with KU, I’d say his offense will be a few years away. He was a top 60 guy that was dominate on defense, his mobility around the rim for his size is hard to find.
He really didn’t get the chance with Desrosiers their starting Center last year. Cooley is a good coach but he also plays a short bench, and will play his starters a lot of minutes. So I’m speculating why he left had to do with his coach, because its hard to see him leaving when the 5 was his this upcoming year. You can’t teach 7’2 size and he’d be a nice stash and develop big. I’d still rather get Bolden but I’m sure Self can sell that we will need him anyway regardless of Chuckwu coming.
-
I’d be happy with his defense and stuffing ability for the first year. That is more than we had with Cliff!
