Not that it means anything....

When I was young I saw a sports illustrated cover with a St. John’s player on it. His jersey was wrinkled and obscured the S. I tried to figure out who in the world was playing for Taco John’s for awhile.
-
@dylans Taco Juan’s was a favorite late night stop back in the day.
-
but,did you drop the chalupa? Some of the older football fans will know what I mean
-
@JayHawkFanToo My best guess is something gross.
-
Would it really have cost them that much to put the " T " in StJohns?
-
@nuleafjhawk The “T” is there, man. Keep looking.
-
@DanR Oh. Well, I guess I feel kinda stupid now.
Not the first time!
I WILL say this though - they ain’t very proud of that " T ".
-
@nuleafjhawk won’t be the last!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 WOW !
-
@nuleafjhawk couldn’t resist, you set yourself up for that!
-
Nothing gross, actually kind of funny unless you are Dion Rayford in which case it will follow you forever…
-
I kind of wondered about that. KU has kind of become a home for top foreign players. Well see if it continues.
-
“Would it really have cos them hat much to pu the " T " in SJohns?”
What hey missed was he "Saint "… wonder why?

Interesting recruiting information here…
Tyrone Outlaw sounds like an interesting prospect, really good shooter but we have plenty of those…
Ebuka Izundu, the 6-10 senior forward from Victory Christian High in Charlotte, North Carolina sound interesting but I had not hear of him before. Looks like there are several programs looking for bigs including KU and UK and not many left available…shades of the year before last and Tarik Black?
Here is a link on Izundu and another, and another…
BTW,whatever happened to the 7’ Greek that was so popular a few days ago? Is he not playing college and playing pro ball in Greece?
-
Looks like St. John’s got in another visit with Cheick today and it’s being widely reported that he’ll announce at the beginning of next week. I don’t know if Self can pull any last minute surprises and I really have no idea if this is last second desperation on SJU’s part or a totally brilliant coup. Man I wish he’d committed a couple weeks ago when he was hot on KU. It’s anyone’s game, and SJU is playing for blood.
-
@konkeyDong I hate this!
-
@konkeyDong Crap - that just can’t be good at all No one would visit St Johns twice if they weren’t already sold
Crap
-
Interesting article on SB Nation. I had to laugh when I read this gem about KU…
With Diallo, this is likely the deepest front court in America.
You can’t make this stuff up.
-
@konkeyDong If he goes with SJ, all that tells me is he isn’t serious about basketball.
-
as his biggest supporter on this site, I’m moving on. If he was coming to KU he would have already done so. All the pressure on him to stay home. And St Johns will visit a million more times to drive that home.
-
Don’t despair. Keep in mind that these are 17-18 year old kids making the biggest decision of their lives and one that will set the tone for their future careers and one that involves a lot more money than most of us will ever make, so it is understandable that they want to take their time. Our time table and/or impatience is not and should not be their concern; they will make a decision when they are ready. Don’t you think that if you were in that situation you would take as much time as possible to make that important of a decision?
Ingram is announcing Monday and I imagine the rest will do the same in the next few days as well, not that big of a deal in the big scheme of things…plus gives a topic for ongoing discussions.
-
We’ve beat home the Diallo topic enough. Social media has made it a circus. I’ll just be happy when its over regardless of where he’s going. I’m just saying I’m detaching myself from this so if he stays home I’m not going to be mad about it. It’s nothing new KU losing to a home school., its the same with Ingram.
The level of sleazyness by St. Johns at all costs to keep him in-state is exactly what’s wrong with recruiting. They’ve now visited him what 4 times since Lavin was fired, and bought 2 assistants that were recruiting him at other schools.
-
“Don’t you think that if you were in that situation you would take as much time as possible to make that important of a decision?”
At that age, I probably would have reacted quickly and screwed up… unless a parent was with me slowing me down. I’m sure Diallo has someone older to help him slow down and think it out carefully.
-
Let’s not be hasty. Remember that KU has been accused of the same thing when it hired Danny’s and Mario’s fathers. How about hiring Darnell Valentines’s coach Lafayette Norwood? Many would even say that Snacks got his job to get Alexander…It is not that uncommon, it happens all the time.
-
@Statmachine has anyone posted pictures of the new basketball dorms on these recruits Facebook pages recently? Maybe they need a reminder of where the should be living next year.
-
@dylans I’d have to say 100% sure on that! The new Naismith rules addition, world games, Maui, rings, locker rooms, Embiid, and wiggins. Lots of good stuff!
-
Sure Mario & Danny are good examples. Didn’t we hire Mario’s dad after he signed tho if I remember correctly?? Snacks was a former player of Self’s at Illinois but it sure didn’t hurt that he was also recruiting Cliff at the time. Not going to argue that we haven’t done things to position ourselves in the past as well.
But I felt like ranting that if all these moves St Johns has made is the reason why he stays then its not even worth following these kids recruitment’s anymore. I know KU has put in as much time and effort “the right way” as any program could possibly be with recruiting someone and to possibly lose out to St Johns who will struggle to win 15 games next year is maddening. We’re supposed to be in that elite group of teams and I feel like kids are treating us the total opposite this recruiting period.
-
@dylans I would BUT I think they have all shut out the social media and know where they want to go. Just a waiting game for us fans now.
-
@drgnslayr I see the “T” at the top of the J. Don’t you? See that line across the J?
-
" Laws… like, sausages, cease to inspire respect in proportion as we know how they are made" - John Godfrey Sax, 1869.
I think the same could be said about recruiting…
