Rabb commits to Cal

  • No surprise here but one would think these guys want to go somewhere that they can have a legit chance at a championship. Making the tournament will be a challenge in itself at Cal. Seems like a bit of a waste to me but to each his own.

  • @RockkChalkk

Close to home, the Cal coach made him a priority and gave him that family atmosphere. I bet if Zeus went pro he would have went to Zona. At Cal he can play 30 minutes a game with no competition.

  • @BeddieKU23 This is pretty funny … here’s your quote about Rabb:

“Close to home, the Cal coach made him a priority and gave him that family atmosphere. I bet if Zeus went pro he would have went to Zona. At Cal he can play 30 minutes a game with no competition.”

    Now change that to Diallo:

“Close to home, the St. Johns coach made him a priority and gave him that family atmosphere. I bet if Ellis went pro he would have went to KU. At St. Johns he can play 30 minutes a game with no competition.”

Hope my attempt at humor isn’t reality.

  • @HighEliteMajor Yup. I’m afraid Perry’s return won’t help pull any of the remaining targets. Which is okay. I’d rather have a senior Ellis than a freshman OAD, but adding any of the remaining blue-chippers would make next year’s team an instant final-four contender. (If it’s not already…)

  • @HighEliteMajor

Ouch, I’m certainly in the camp that hopes that’s not true.

I’ve put all my eggs into the Diallo fortune.

    @Stupidmichael

Adding any of the remaining front-court blue-chippers would instantly make this team closer to a Final-Four contender. The Greene injury scares me on Wing depth now though.

We have 3 spots to give, I assume give at least 1 to a OAD type and find some others to red-shirt or transfer sit out. Injuries can and will happen and that has killed us the last 2 years.

  • @BeddieKU23 Always true that a key injury or two can derail a campaign. If Greene is 100% by the middle of September I think that will give him enough time to get back into game shape. It sounds like the injury was bothering him quite a bit, so there’s a good chance he could return an even better player. Maybe his lack of defensive prowess had more to due with his hip (lateral movement, especially) than a lack of passion that we - as fans - sometimes railed him for. Probably a combination of the two, actually.

Let’s pretend, for a moment, that Greene does not recover fully from the injury. Worse case scenario, Perry gets to play the 3 for 10-15 minutes per game, while Bragg plays the 4.

  • @stupidmichael

You could certainly be right about the injury effecting his play/maybe even his defense. It certainly could have hurt his jump shot and confidence in shooting.

I give you Selden from last year for reference though. Found out to have a bum knee, gets it corrected and is back to full contact within I think a month of so. Had the entire off-season and we hyped that a healthy Selden would perform much better. That certainly didn’t end up being the case.

Now we have Greene who is going to miss the entire spring/summer games/practice/individual work on his game that he needed. If his recovery is quicker, the better if it takes him longer its questionable whether he will be any better than his Soph. year. I think its safe to say we need to find another wing or Perry may see a lot of time at the 3 depending on his summer transitioning to that spot.
