Big Cliff to sit out after NCAA alerted KU to his eligibility.
-
Argh. Not what we needed.
Anyone care to speculate on WTF is going on? How often does the NCAA swoop in and question the eligibility of a player mid-season? And what happens to the games he’s played in if he’s deemed ineligible?
-
Not good
-
I don’t know but I believe KU is making the correct move by sitting him.
-
@DoubleDD yep… sounds wise… But it’s hard to imagine a much more disruptive distraction.
-
Of course they would swoop in right before we play the tallest team in the Big 12. it’s the NCAA… it’s what they do.
-
Argh…
-
I wonder if this is like the Derrick Rose situation?
Either way KU is making the right decision to go ahead and sit Cliff.
-
NCAA had to academically approve him for us, then allowed him to play for us.
-
Lace em up Lucas
-
looks like his last game in a KU uniform if this is the way its going… and in terms of the tourney means nothing good
-
Mickelson por favor!!!
-
right about now, i’m dreaming of Embiid. what if…
-
I hope the hell,we dont have to vacate this season. How embarrassing thatd be
-
@cragarhawk Might be a good time to try the one in and four out offense.
-
I was just gettin ready to post that!
-
No I don’t think it’s like that. Cliff cleared the clearing house, so KU is good. Plus I think they could still play Cliff, but they’re not going to take any chances. Either way the NCAA found something on Big Cliff.
-
thats as likely as ku playing zone defense. or finding jesus in the stands
-
@DoubleDD as did Rose if i recall…
-
Damn it…WTH is going on now? Who in the hell allowed this to happen? This is all we need and hope it’s a simple infraction. Why do I see sneering and tongue in cheek looks from other programs? How in the hell do we recruit and sign a top pick, only to be screwed this late in the season? This smells of conspiracy, plain and simple. Also, you never hear of them sniffing around uk or many other programs lately. Ironically, KU has one of if not the best team GPAs. So what eligibility is in question?
Do you all find the timing and before all games interesting? So…either this is a minor issue and a mere sitting will satisfy or they are going to screw the program from KU getting #11. What a sports story. This may be partly the reason for Alex’s inconsistent play of late. Self may have been anticipating something.
Now my question is…eligibility prior to signing during all that mess at his high school? Can’t be, he was cleared by the NCAA. This has got to be since he’s been attending classes at KU.
-
@lincase true story. But whos in? Ellis? I like him better out honestly
-
Unbelievable. Horrible timing. The NCAA didn’t know about this issue weeks or even months ago?
-
Memphis was warned the Rose could be endanger of losing his eligibility. Yet they chose to play him anyways.
-
Wow, Oklahoma completely bailed out at the end here. TCU had them turned over.
-
@DoubleDD okay. Thanks. I was not aware of that
-
you didnt really think they would win did you…
-
@BeddieKU23 well i was hoping atleast. Ha
-
Obviously we know nothing but is anyone else concerned this is going to be major and Cliff is done? Very early to speculate but I am speculating…
-
@joeloveshawks perhaps its something to do with this latest semester. Meaning it should be minor for KU. Other than the fact. That Cliff may likely never suit up,again for us
-
i was too but TCU just inst that good
-
@joeloveshawks No. I think it will definitely put him in a bad situation. He’ll either stay and we’ll take our lumps like we did with Mari and BMac. Worse case, I hope, is, Alex simply sits maybe rest of the regular season. Maybe serves a suspension for regular and conf tourney. He may get to come back for the NCAAs. Or pending how bad, he may be finished. Thankfully, our head coach is an upstanding guy and won’t sell out the farm to have a winning season. KU is compliant and has always been above board with the NCAA, unlike other programs. We see it right in front of our eyes too. There’s too much parity with NCAA investigations.
It definitely makes no sense to return next year, unless this can be resolved within this season.
-
@BeddieKU23 But it does show that OU is becoming vulnerable. I think the entire B12 has reached points of vulnerability.
-
So many good coaches in the B12 that every little fissure in a team is being exposed and exploited.
They all know each other’s weaknesses and are trying to place their swords directly in the chink in the armor.
-

Agreed. Feels like a hit is being carried out by a corrupt organization.
-
Right before the Texa$ game. The same Texa$ that is big $$$$ for the N¢AA. Con$pira¢¥? Ya think???
-
@cragarhawk I would agree with Ellis as one of the four outs. Lucas or Michelson in, I guess.
-
@KUSTEVE On the other hand, maybe…just maybe…the good 'ol NCAA is doing us a solid now, so we don’t end up having a Memphis experience. I don’t think it’s anything like Memphis and Rose. That was the dumbest thing a player/coach could ever do/allow.
Interestingly enough, to this day, Calipari still claims NOTHING. I love it. BTW, he says there’s no way to monitor what his players or recruits do. Hello, I’m no million dollar coach, but if I have a top recruit, my butt as head coach will be all over him to guarantee he’s above the eligibility requirements. Derrick Rose should’ve never played in college at all. Calipari smiles and crawls on his belly like a snake. He crawls through a pile of crap and comes out smelling like a rose…I love D1 college coaching, it’s the American way.
-
@truehawk93 Soooo, the NCAA is somehow…helping us?
-
@KUSTEVE never know what events are going to transpire to get you where youre going. Perhaps the combo of Lucas Michelson becomes serviceable enough over the next 6 games to take us deep in the dance. Thatll be my hope
-
@KUSTEVE Who knows what they’re doing. That’s my point. They definitely seem to have an agenda. They dictate and manipulate everything. Oh, don’t forget that UK has a former athletic staff member on the NCAA investigative board too. It just gets better and better.
-
WTH. is happening is right. The timing???
This stinks.Just watched the refs give OU every call they needed down the stretch. This stinks too.
-
Often these things have to do with benefits…but we don’t know what it is. Hard to speculate. It could be very minor or nothing at all. We’ll just have to wait.
-
For those wondering if Cliff would declare after this season, ready or not. This is your answer.
-
@cragarhawk I’ll take my chances with Lucas. Mickelson has been sitting too much and the pace of these games, this late, are too much. If I play Mickelson, and it wouldn’t hurt, Self needs to slowly work him into the lineup. Maybe he and Lucas can split 20 mins a piece. I’d just go with whoever seems in rhythm.
-
Who knows?
The problem I see is that the NCAA can do this with impunity.
They approved Cliff. Once the NCAA makes most decisions, the decision is final. Why is this one different?
Bringing something forward in the middle of the season means that they can manipulate the game of which they are supposed to protect the integrity.
KU has no choice. NCAA plants the seed of doubt and if KU decides to ignore it, they can take everything away. If KU complies, NCAA might come back and say “never mind” or might not.
-
@bskeet Who was it that had a similar player issue and they recently cleared? I think Arthur comes to mind and all his Science class mess. He was freakin’ cleared by the house and then they found that something wasn’t right. They then said, “Oops, sorry, our bad…he’s good, congratulations!”
-
@truehawk93 Who knows what they’re doing. That’s my point. They definitely seem to have an agenda. They dictate and manipulate everything. Oh, don’t forget that UK has a former athletic staff member on the NCAA investigative board too. It just gets better and better.
True That. So let’s reset: a really pissed off Hunter Michelson, angered about being buried on the bench all year, puts on a scoring/blocking show, making key buckets, blocking a slew of shots, and making key passes to our 3point eagle eyes beyond the perimeter , who bury the trey… After the game, Coach self tells the NCAA to kiss his ass. OK, I feel better now.
-
@KUSTEVE The Crimson and Red-headed B12 menace, I like it. Unleash the Red Fury.
-
Nine fouls and six points for Cliff the past four games. I don’t think we’re going to miss him a whole lot today.
-
@truehawk93 THE RED FURY…that’s beautiful…like a work of art…
