Wait, KU is playing?
-
Danny Manning in the handshake line and does ESPN show him? No of course not.
-
@wissox I don’t get it. Why? I thought he was a HC of some colleges, never knew he’s with Boyd.
-
Like I said at this point we have to celebrate every win we can get even if it is against a team that won’t even sniff the NIT. Until we get different players and shake up our staff. So Ya!!! Got the W
-
Just Curious , hoping someone can tell me the answer. How did this team ever just dog stomp UCF by what ?- -51 points ? – watching this team play just don’t know how that ever happened and on their home floor. I know UCF is no dominant team , but they are not total trash either. - -Just watching this team that’s on the floor now just amazes me how that ever happened.
I mean seriously where is the flow to the offense ?- -where is the rhythm - sorry to say but it sure just looks like that we really struggle to score, this offense bogs down - -choppy, seems like we have been getting ourselves deep in the clock and then in the end are forced to throw up some hard contested three or just a wild shot. I think if we are honest with ourselves we would admit that right now it’s hard to watch these guys - -painful- -just no flow what so ever.
Franny made a comment about Dickinson during the game saying at one point " That’s what you will get from Hunter game in-- game out talking about him scoring right around twenty per game-- -that’s very true BUT what you can also count on practically every game is his liability on the defensive end,- Every game just getting Schooled by a man driving right by him for easy scores -just getting torched on D - makes it really frustrating,- - So in the end what’s happening with him is - - Yes he scores the ball but negates all the positive from the offensive end by all the negative on the defensive end, so actually zero effect from him-- Boy wish we could get out and run like wild horses looks so much bette. The offense we are running now just looks stagnant
-
I can barely watch this team now. Might as well play Hunter at half court. Their offense is a big mess and their defense is hit and miss. I’m hopeful Hunter can prove everyone wrong and hit his second trey in B12 play before the year ends. That will really make my year! I’m so grateful we eeked by the 0-12 Buffs. But you know, everyone brings their best game against us.
-
Self needs to go back to the defensive focused line ups with Moore starting and letting him guard the other team’s best perimeter player. That defensive intensity Moore brought is what fueled KU’s best stretch of the season. I don’t care if that means the offense struggles to score 60. This team isn’t good enough to play up tempo against good teams. Slow the game down, make it ugly as possible, play the race to 60 game, and give yourself the best chance possible to beat other good teams.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Dajuan / Moore / Mayo / (Bidunga/KJ) / Hunter then? Bump Rylen?
-
@jay4ever He’s an assistant coach for Colorado. Thought seeing him in AFHS might be more of a story line than what they made it.

Hate this type of ball but since we screwed up the “guards” who transferred in this is the best option - spot on
Want it on record t-hawk and ballin agree
-
@drgnslayr D2, Moore, Griffen/Mayo, KJ, Flory
3 good defenders, 1 decent when he is not tired, 1 bad defender
-
@kuballin10 i think our offense is too anemic with Hunter out. But would be thrilled to be wrong

Harris, Moore, Mayo, Adams, Hunter with Flory rotating for Adams and Hunter, then Griffen and Storr for Mayo, whoever the hot hand is, and Coit for Harris and Moore.
The goal would be to have 3 of Harris, Moore, Adams, and Flory on the floor together as much as possible.
-
@approxinfinity I don’t disagree but he scores 20 and gives up 25
Analytics claim he’s good defensively but per film and just watching the game that isn’t backed up
Zags torched us last year and any team can on pnr right at him and d2
-
I liked Adams effort last night. Looked the most healthy he’s been since the injury. He’s making some effort plays like tip outs on offensive boards and some defensive plays that nobody else is really doing. Had 5 dimes as well. The energy plays are where he shines most it seems.
Would take last nights game from him and bottle it up every game. That’s what he can continue to do for this team
-
Wondering if what comes easy to one guy and requires effort from another to replicate does not make the latter a better player.
Unfortunately with slothrocious defense for 30 min a night from our 5 seemingly a given, one must choose between these 2 at the 4.
-
One thing from last night that was negative from the game that stuck with me. Passmore getting the quick hook in the first half after a 3 attempt. Just not sure that’s a conference builder for a kid who’s seen limited time due to depth at his position and being a freshman. You gotta give him a chance to play some possessions and learn.
-
I think Passmore is gone for next year. Kid would have to be nuts to stay here. Another victim to the strange distribution of minutes here.
I’ve been happy with KJ last few games.
Self’s million-dollar question: how do we get consistent play from any of these kids today? I know it’s something common everywhere in college basketball, except a few teams are more consistent.
We all scream at players for making too much NIL… Is it possible the NIL creates a lot more chaos in their lives?
-
@drgnslayr I have to agree I think Rakese is gone, dam shame really wasn’t given a fair shake - never got to play extended minutes, I actually thought he would of been gone already, tough kid I think he will land some where and be fine
-
I believe he’s been out for 3 weeks, 2 hurt and last week flu.
-
How many People genuinely expected Passmore to come in and be a rotation players from day 1?
He came here knowing he wasn’t likely to be in the rotation as a freshman. Passmore 100% fits the mold of a role player. If he’s not patient enough to wait for his turn, then is that a player you really want?
He absolutely reminds a bit of Travis Releford. A guy who’s projected to make most of his impact on the defensive end of the floor, but will have the ability to get to basket and make some 3’s later in his career.
Can we please get rid of this notion that a freshman has to be an instant impact/rotation level player otherwise they will or should leave? I can just about guarantee that Passmore wasn’t guaranteed minutes from day 1 and that he would have to earn them.
Even in the limited minutes he’s had this season, he hasn’t good. He’s got a PER of 1.9 and 35% turnover rate. Passmore will be a good player in time, but it was never expected to be this season.
-
Yeah unless there are major rumblings about a player being unhappy, I’m not going to put too much stock in speculation of who is gone and who is back. Every comment here over the offseason was that Jamari was going to be gone and he is still with the team.
-
Passmore basically gets walk on minutes. He isn’t even a role player. A hundred miles from a Travis Releford. He can’t be judged when playing 1 or 2 minutes every 5 or 6 games. I never thought he was ready for rotation minutes… but he’s not even above walk ons.

Releford wasn’t a rotation player either as a freshman, and had several DNP’s that year and then redshirted his 2nd year. Obviously, I’m not comparing 1st year Passmore to 5th year Releford, but that’s the player comp for Passmore. That’s what Passmore can eventually develop into if he stays at Kansas. And no, you don’t need to see exclusively his KU film to see that comparison.

I just hate how he get pulled after one mistake and we go back Bill playing favorites. Some guys can get away with some pretty silly plays as long as they are Bills pets. The more he does that and the more Flory sits on the bench, the less recruits will be interesting unless they are already on draft board. Remember how Self rode freshman Grimes coat tails for 30 minutes a game tho he stank up the place more often than not. Feel like their needs to a happy medium

Grimes played the minutes he did because there weren’t better options that season. That team had 8 guys start at least 9 games and only 3 that started all 36. Doke only played 9 games before injury ended his season, Vick was kicked off the team, Self had to pull Ochai Agbaji’s redshirt because that team had no depth. 5 different players started between 9-20 games that season. The other options for Grimes minutes that season were Charlie Moore or KJ Lawson.
Who would’ve gotten those minutes over Grimes? The two options were Charlie Moore or KJ Lawson. Self didn’t have a quick hook with Grimes because the other options were the two that were worse than Grimes.
-
@kjayhawks the quick hook for an open shot is bad coaching
Even worse was his taking shak out after 1 turnover when he’d came in for d2 a game or two ago. D2 goes right back in and immediately proceeds to turn it over but of course he won’t get yanked
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 roster construction was still a problem then, but not minute distribution… good old days.

Roster construction wasn’t a huge issue that season. That team was just insanely young with Vick and Dedric Lawson being the only upper classmen in the rotation, and I’m deliberately excluding Doke because he missed 75% of that season. The core of that team was who ended the next season as title favorites. Dotson, Doke, Agbaji, Garrett, and McCormack were all back the next season and the core of that 2020 team.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Vick could’ve blossomed late that season. Not sure whatever happened to him. He worked really hard on those 3pt shots.
-
@jay4ever Vick left the team for “personal reasons” and didn’t return meaning was kicked off the team. One of the biggest positives abiut Self is that when he kicks someone off the team, he doesn’t always frame it that way in order to not ruin a kid’s career.
With Vick when he declared for the draft after his junior year, that was Self kicking him off the team because Vick wasn’t an NBA prospect. The expectation was Vick would withdraw from the draft and transfer. Somehow, Vick got back into Self’s good graces enough to return to KU for his senior season. The story is Vick’s attitude deteriorated later on during the season and the family emergency was real, but something that would’ve only meant missing 1 or 2 games if I’m remembering right, and Self used it as a way to kick Vick off the team without publicly kicking Vick off the team.
The team chemistry that season was much better and KU played a lot better down the stretch than before Vick left the team.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Muchas gracias, senor. That explains it. I hope he’d find something to make ends meet for fam.
