UConn to B12?
-
I miss the home and away! I guess the money is important. Does he get paid by the amount of teams?
-
I also totally miss the home and away!
Honestly though, we are at the point of constant chaos with conference realignment. With no end in sight.
Survival of the fittest. Grab who ya can now and sort it out later.
-
Addendum: I wish there were a higher power who could look down from above on all conference realignment (ahem, TV powerhouses) and fix this stupidity.
-
It’s really the BIG’s fault. They had ten teams, we had 8, the PAC had 8, ACC and SEC didn’t have numbers with their conferences. Then the BIG goes out and gets Penn State. Now there were 11 teams in a 10 team league. 1995 started it all. 2 years later the Big 12 is formed out of the Big 8. Madness ensues as everyone wants to be like the two greatest leagues.
-
Followed more on the U Conn coming to the Bg 12 , watched several , material today - -Some Brett McMurphy , Some Ross Dellinger Some Pete Thummel and thought would list some reasons why they probably come - -why they got voted in podcasts, heard some , rasons why Big twelve would vote them in, things are more favorable then some time back.
First, Probably the biggest thing in this which makes it a lean for coming- - - – -- - Danny Hurly is not opposed to U Conn joing the Big 21/ Like they said id Hurly didn’t like it, then it would be end of storyU Conn would be coming in with not full share right now-----their football wouldn’t start till 2031 show wouldn’t take away from existing sixteen teams , ESPN has mentioned very well could add more money to BIG 1 if U Conn joins—ESPN would love U Conn in the Big 12 , The brand coming with U Conn Men’s & Womens Basketball , The Market new Market Ny/NE Huge market. Being able to create true rivals-- U Conn / Wv - -Pitt / WV, --and even though we are considered the best in Basketball adding U Conn would leave NO DOUBT that’s a few. Yormork meeting with Big 12 Presidents this coming week.
-
Here is a novel idea… College sports form just one conference. All current D1 programs are invited. You have to join or you play no one. Then, since it is such a huge conference, we break down schools based on their location and history into regional groupings. Traditional rivalries count big. We make up recognizable names like ACC, B12, B10, SEC… We fire the NCAA and form our own conference system. Schools mostly play schools in their groupings. We develop a playoff system that is fair. We DICTATE to TV networks how it will be and it has to be fair to every region and school. We come up with a FAIR REVENUE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM!
I know… it would suck to bring Texas back into our world. But we would also get back Oklahoma! And Missouri! (oh shizzz… I should have shut up while I was ahead!)
-
Yormork is in meetings today I heard to sell the financial advantages of adding U Conn – and the other benefits it would create ,getting new marketing, – getting into the NY/NE market - -the revenue that U Conn men’s & Womens Basketball creates.
Might be a vote taken some time this week, could take place tomorrow - -going to be interesting needs 12 votes to pass
-
This is kinda crazy - I talked to the ticket office this morning. - tier one is all the good seats, tier 2 is ok, 3 is marginal and everting else is junk - no bad seats my ass. To get into tier one would require a minimum of an $18,000!!! “donation” to the Williams fund over the $1,900 per seat ticket price. - Next year they will switch to a more upfront pricing schedule - a seat will have a price tag as opposed to making a donation and hoping you get the seat you want. That’ll maybe be better.
That pricing kinda makes me dislike KU basketball on principle. The wine and cheese crowd is ruining it for everyone that actually goes to the games to have fun as opposed to going as a status symbol. I hope the 1,000 seat they took out didn’t affect student seating.
-
It comes down to big $$$ everywhere.
-
This will happen, next season. Duke quite possibly the season after that.
-
@AsadZ Piss on all of them. Every last college team out there. And Pro, too. I’ll sit in my man cave and watch re-runs of the 1988 season - Danny and the Miracles.
Anybody got a VHS Player I can borrow?
-
Sigh. We have to get out of this league.
-
Well, as of this point according what Matt Norlander put out Things aren’t going good for Yormork at the present.—Right now hearing SIX Schools are in favor - - -TWO are against voting them in – and then multiple Schools are skeptical.
Brett has a lot of work to do to sway SIX more Schools to be in favor, -Although this wasn’t an official vote - - this is just wats being heard as of right now, I don’t think he pulls SIX more schools in his favor
-
The more I hear today I just don’t see ANY way for U Conn t get an invite from the Big 12. The biggest draw back a far as the Big 12 Presidents are concerned with I can’t argue after hearing some numbers being thrown out and tat is the obvious one it’s U Conn football The main question being raised from the presidents is can we the ( Big 12 ) afford U Conn football ?
U Conn’s whole financial status is one huge mess , the Big downfall for U Conn in football is they have to pay rent on their Stadium , as they don’t have an on Campus Stadium- - - -they have to pay for Parking- - and they have to pay a ticket sur charge… One thing the Big 12 is using as requirements is the football doesn’t join till 2031 , and they have many requirements that would have to be met to show they are invested in football.
Right now U Conn is making about 4-5 million from revenue , if they come to the Big twelve the revenue sharing right now is right about 40 million-- -quite a jump for them ,the Presidents just feel that’s not a good investment in U Conn’s current state. - Yes U Conn would have to come in at a reduced share, being mentioned probably 20 million, but at the earliest the football would not come in till 2031 , which just happens to be the new Tv contract comes around. People close to the source in the Big 12 say Big twelve expects the Next TV deal to be right around 90 .
The way the State o Conn—U Conn handles the money is a mess. , their Athletic Dept running at a deficit at 30-40 million a year , crazy set up Their Athletic Dept has to pay the State , then the State then turns around and pays the University , who then turns around and pays the Athletic Dept - - -WTH LOL. Yet the question remains can the Big 12 afford to add U Conn , another big question arises even if U Conn happens to meet the requirements that is given to them for their football, are they invested ? --Their football brings Zero Brand – Can they pay what it takes with the or paying their revenue sharing which is right at 20 million pe School , plus all their other expenses -we could get stuck on the revenue share- -Lot’s of questions.
Bout the only way U Conn get’s and invite is as if they drop their football, they would still have their other sports but not football and so far U Conn hasn’t even entertained that thought - -they need to they are only one of two teams independent in football , the other being Norte Dame – -drop your football down to Division two and good to go, I don’t think they get the invite – The only way they come more likely is Basketball only , which sources are saying vey likely could happen but that is down the line
-
UConn football is an albatross that shouldn’t come near the B12. This is where the B12 could get creative and invite 2 or 4 schools for basketball only. That would potentially open the door for Gonzaga as well went that route. Maybe Creighton and Wichita St. to round out a 20 team basketball league.
-
I’m so excited about these possibilities. UCONN in the league means conference tournaments in Boston, or NY, or as Yormak seems to want, in Vegas, or Phoenix. Nothing says B12 more than the conference championship game in New England!
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 They plan to delay football until 2030/2031.
UConn is pitching to B12 how their FB program will become competitive by then.

There is a lot of stipulations for them to even be accepted, The Big 1 presidents want to know how invested they are in their football. The Big twelve doesn’t want or need to be paying their way- -this athletic dept is losing 30-40 million a year, will they be able to pay their bills and produce quality football,- - their football add absolutely Zero. A lot better chance of being added as a Basketball only member if they can decide to drop the football
-

UConn football will never be worth it. Even the one year they won the Big East and made the Fiesta Bowl, they lost money because they couldn’t sell their allotment of tickets. The New England area just doesn’t care about college football. Of the 3 FBS programs in the New England region, 2 are independent because no other FBS league wants them right now and the 3rd is an ACC doormat that’s going to get left behind whenever the ACC implodes. People in New England just don’t care about college football.
-
At this point U Conn needs the Big twelve more then the Big twelve needs U Conn. U Conn needs to join a power Conference so they don’t get left behind. Again right now their revenue payout is four-five Million for revenue payout - -their Athletic dept is losing thirty-forty million a year.
Why now ? Why now should the Big Twelve be in a hurry to add U Conn with so many risks ? -Why not wait and see how this ACC implosion plays out .- - -If things go like they are saying teams are going to be looking for a place -Louisville has talked to the Big twelve, they want to come bad.- -possibly Louisville-- - VT - - Pitt -NC State or Miami. Strong chance Big twelve goes to twenty team conference. -Like being said no way can the SEC or Big 10 could ignore or acknowledge big twelve as a P-3
Sure U Conn would be a greet add for Basketball , Big twelve already known as being the best in Basketball-- -you add U Conn and would undoubtedly be, no question ask. That is what Brett want’s When it comes time for the next TV deal , he wants to separate Basketball from footballl – Basketball have it’s own deal - -he thinks Basketball revenue will soar and tight ow being said Basketball is under valued. -We all know and has been said - no way does the Big Twelve ever catch the BIG or SEC with revenue payout in football---- BUT they can say OK you have the best football and you want to try and leave us out -Great we have by far have the Best basketball and we are leaving you out. They are figuring revenue is Basketball is going to soar , the NCAA tourney going to expand again and there is more revenue. Football my pull big in football and we can’t catch them but Yormork thinks we can close the gap
-
Yormark will stop at nothing just to see UConn play at the Garden

He is fixed on getting the North East market. That’s another thing that was mentiooned- -how long if we added U Conn would it be before they wanted to move the Big Twelve tourney to the Garden.
Oh another thing didn’t know, when U Conn plays Basketball in Hartford Conn -they get charged, the best thing they can hope for in those games is break even or lose money - -just insane

Remember used to think about the same thing about KU football lmao ?- Laughing stock of the Nation

On UConn…
How quickly ya’ll forget that Kansas football was at the BOTTOM of the NCAA barrel for a long time! Look at us now! Go Hawks!!!
A little cash infusion and UConn can get it together eventually.

How many opportunities has the ACC had to add UConn over the years? Why did the ACC, a conference known more for basketball than football repeatedly pass over UConn? That’s how big of a black hole UConn football is.

@rockchalkjayhawk What a difference having a good coach with a good QB can make! Now to sustain it.

@wissox Yormark didn’t have the votes to get UConn, so it’s dead (for now)

ummm not so fast my friend lol – No -" FOR NOW " doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. The Presidents want to see what’s going to happen with the ACC–plus the judge was supose to make some kind of ruling on this dam revenue sharing today, they want to see how that turns out.
No School can afford to take a hit money wise, just because they said no doesn’t mean this is going away- -just not right now - -They are not dum enough to know that there is no way in hell can they ever catch the BIG or SEC in football revenue, That’s exactly why Yormork is trying to find ways to generate revenue. - That’s why he is trying to generate this whole separate package in Basketball.
Like the said too is it’s either the Big 12 or the ACC for U Conn and they sure don’t want them to end up in the ACC, a lot more going into this then exsposed, ya, not now but it will continue to have a presence
-
@jayballer67 he’s gonna need a lot more support among Big 12 Presidents and Chancellors to get it done
-
Oh I have no doubt he will get it done – - just not now. It will happen , it’s just the presidents are waiting to see how this revenue sharing turns out, what the house settles on .
Yormork is seeking ways to create more revenue for the Big twelve , that’s why when the new TV contract comes out he thinks along with others that Basketball is under valued, and Yormork is smart enough to realize that if we want to remain a player in the overall grand scheme of things - - this is something that needs done.
Their thinking is there is no way the Big twelve can ever compete or catch the BIG or SEC in football revenue , but the thought is if they get a totally separate Basketball from Basketball , totally separate contracts as people seeing Basketball revenue soaring- – --there will be no way those two conferences can ignore the BIG and try and leave us behind having only two Conferences. - -That’s where U Conn becomes a major player, their National Brand in Men’s Basketball and Womens Basketball as Womens has become alot more popular -their brand is bringing major revenue. You add those two Basketball programs , the men and Womens will be a boost. – Then you have the viewership the Market aspect, opening up totally new ground - the NY/New England region New Region , gives Wv - - -UCF - – -Cincinnati some closer games , new recruiting ground – -ESPN wants this, they pay etra money for U Conn to jinn . Brett isn’ stupid he is looking for the best interest and keep us relevant We add U Conn to what is perceived as the Best Confence would be huge, would make us with no doubt THE BEST lot’s of money to be made --chances very good it will happen – just not now

UConn doesn’t add that much in basketball. They don’t get great ratings and UConn is a financial dumpster fire. They won’t get added without a real football stadium and a big increase in their investments, which they don’t have the money to do. It doesn’t give you any markets either. It’s an oddball. They don’t belong here even though I know Yormark would give his left nut to have literally anything in the northeast for purely parochial reasons. If basketball is that undervalued we’ll be gone anyway. They can replace KU that way none of us have to care about this second rate league anymore.
-
@jayballer67 How many times did the ACC have a chance to add UConn and why did they pass on them every single time? It was just 2-3 years ago there was serious discussion about their football program dropping back down to the FCS level.
-
UConn has a large TV market in NY and Boston which will be lucrative for Big 12.
Furthermore, KU will have opportunity to recruit in these crucial markets.
-
@AsadZ we’re likely going to land our next PG and he’s from New Hampshire. I don’t think UConn brings NY and Boston any more than Rutgers carries them. It’s just kind of… there. If it did it wouldn’t be in the Big East and a financial basket case.
-
@FarmerJayhawk I am just saying because I have lived in Northeast and UConn men’s and women’s teams have massive following in the region. I would imagine more highly rated kids in the region will consider KU if they were playing in the region closer to their homes.
-
@AsadZ said in UConn to B12?:

That’s what the talking heads are also saying , they know this league will never survive if we try and compete in football only, Like farmer said him self, if the Big 12 tries to keep up with just Football , then we will be right behind the Pac 12 & ACC and will be that so call 2nd rate League and e will be the ones imploding and left behind
It will happen like one source was saying he was talking to U Conn executives, and they are saying it’s a done deal - it’s just not IF but WHEN.-- i think we are probably looking at more like in 2031 when the new T rights deal comes up.
ESPN is 10000 % behind this , they would love for U Conn to be in , This still gives U Conn until2031 to gets things in order and when hey wok the new TV dal out—Yormork is going to present to separate deals - -Football AND Basketball , and also at that time announce U Conn will be coming to theBig 1
-
While TV revenue is the main driver, UConn is one of the best state schools when it comes to academics and research.
I think Big 12 wants to have such schools who excel in academics and research.

They know that , they are also wanting to more likely then not get U Conn in the league BEFORE the ACC tries. In the past the ACC wasn’t in the position they find themselves in now. – -IF & When they implode - - FSU - Clemson - -N Carol – -Virgina end up leaving and they will at a reduced rate if FSU & The ACC settle- -for teams to leave is going to be a lot more less expensive When those teams leave the ACC is going to try and find teams to back fill with and the 1st one they are going afte because of their Value/Brand they have. How many other conferences can claim the value that they have with what they have accomplished in NCAA titles with the Men & Womens Basketball. I’m just relaying what the popular belief is from people inside the know. - U Conn coming to the Big 12 if Yormork breaks these into two separate deals is a 1000% must get, Again several people that work with this truly believe that Basketball value is going to increase sharply, as it’s gaining more & more popularity - -especially;;y after Katlin Clark. , Plus the addition of the NCAA tourney expanding- -ummm – ya.
If they get the deal , and then add U Conn on top of what is considered the best league in the Nation in Basketball it just makes it a no Brainer, adding U Conn - -thee is no way we are left behind if and when the BIG & SEV end up breaking away from the NCAA. -As soon as they do that , everyone else that isn’t in a power Conference is screwed ad left behind, Yormork just making sure we have a seat at the table
-
@jayballer67 UConn doesn’t have anywhere near the value you think they do. The ACC has passed on adding UConn at least 3 times in the past so they clearly aren’t interested in dealing with their football program either.
If the ACC implodes and all the powerhouses leave, especially their basketball powerhouses, why would UConn want to join a depleted ACC when they already fought to leave a depleted AAC to rejoin the Big East? UConn basketball alone isn’t attractive enough to major conference to justify housing their football program.
-
@AsadZ one game up there during a kid’s career won’t move the needle. It might appear big but the viewership numbers are really not great.
-
@jayballer67 so the thinking is UConn isn’t good enough for the ACC so get them before the ACC gets absolutely desperate? So we’re taking the 3 home from the bar before our buddy can even after he repeatedly said no?
-
@FarmerJayhawk …better than than that Uggo Gonzaga. But be sure to kick her out before your roommates wake up.

@dylans at least she’s enthusiastic?
-
My God… The Big12 lost two powerhouse football teams and traded them for several marginal programs. This is not trending positively! We can’t add programs like UCONN, or it will be one more step to losing all reputation in football. I love their basketball program… unfortunately, it is football that decides the athletic prowess of universities.
We don’t know the net result yet of losing OU and UT. That will show itself over the coming years when we have several recruit years going for recruits to play in a conference without powerhouse teams.
If that sounds confusing… read it a few times.
