NCAA proposal to expand NCAA tourney to 72 or 76 teams.

Thoughts?
Here’s the skinny.
The proposals were outlined to the commissioners this week by NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt and NCAA vice president for women’s basketball Lynn Holzman, the source said. Under the proposal, expansion of the 68-team field included both four- and eight-team models. The NCAA would keep its 64-team bracket but would add play-in games involving the Nos. 10 through 12 seeds.
More games would provide a small boost through ticket sales and merchandise, but the pool of money the NCAA uses to pay out conferences and member schools would essentially stay the same. What could change, however, is how that money would be divided up if the tournament broadens.
The earliest the NCAA tournament could expand would be the 2025-26 season, the source said. The NCAA basketball oversight committee meets next week, and the tournament selection committee has a meeting next month.

I personally don’t think it goes far enough.
I’m all for some version of all 351 Division 1 basketball schools in the tourney. I haven’t thought through the minutia, but what the hell. Get rid of the useless conference tournaments and have at it! And no, I don’t care about the money involved.

32 teams would be better for KU

How about we just keep it where it is. -getting diluted down enough already the way it is -keep going you’ll have teams in with 12-29 records playing in the dam thing - -they just can’t leave well enough alone, Like they say if it’s not broke - -don’t fix it
-
I think they should just make it a tourney of 1. Give the damn trophy to UCONN every year and save everyone a lot of money and expense. Plus, I could finally pick a decent bracket.

The conference tournaments all have automatic entries into the Dance for the winners. So, effectively that is the opening round for any team not good enough to be selected by the committee. So, you already have your all-inclusive tournament!
Well, except that it excludes independents (are there any now?).

There actually was one independent last year! Ha. Chicago State. But anyway, take away the subjectivity and let’s get some Hoosiers-style NCAA tourney action!

@rockchalkjayhawk Isn’t the conference tourney in effect a playoff for all teams in the country?

Isn’t that the round we lose in every year (besides 2022?)!!
-
@wissox round 2 or 4. Bill is better with time to prepare.

I don’t want to see it change but this sport figures to be a shell of itself within the next 5 yrs so it’s going to be a lot of disappointment anyway. Pressure to expand seems evident from schools. Money wise there seems to be little incentive. Lots of decisions keep plowing forward with little regard for what fans want
