2024 MLB Season

Now that FA signings are in full swing, let’s look at what is happening with Royals and other clubs.
I was not expecting Royals to spend but they have been very busy and have signed several veteran players including pitchers.
They have long ways to go but if these pitchers perform well, with solid group of core players, Royals can surprise, recall Rangers went from worst to World series champs.
-
Shocking!
-
Royals signed Witt Jr to 11 yr $288.8M deal.
-
Finally! Got rid of the tightwad

Sounds like the ownership is spending money so they have a competitive team to fill the new stadium when it opens.
-
They have spent over $100M in FA signings this year to make them competitive, unheard of in recent years.
-
It appears they are just trying to get public support for a new downtown stadium. Once they get the tax dollars we shall see if ownership continues to spend money on the team.
-
Crossroads it is
-
@FarmerJayhawk Is that the old KC Star printing press location?
-
@dylans I believe so
-
Brad Keller has signed a minor league deal with While Sox @wissox
-
@AsadZ It’s part of a running joke around here with “Kansas City White Sox” being the general punch line. Rich Getz, Pedro Grifol, Nicky Lopez, now Brad Keller, I forget whom else, but rebuilding the team with KC discards doesn’t seem to be the best plan for future success! (no offense Royals fans!)
-
@wissox You’re supposed to to the Yankee thing and overpay the Royals free agents so the home team can’t retain the good talent they’ve developed.
-
@dylans Yeah, we’re just like the Yankees. I think I heard there’s two teams that have never given a 100 million$ contract, and the Sox are one of them.
-
@wissox Who’s the second team? Cincinnati? I think the Royals signed Bobby Witt to a huge deal.
-
@dylans I thought I’d heard the A’s. Yes the Royals were on that list until the Witt signing.
-
I was hoping Pratto was in the roster instead of Minors
Also I would have liked to see Lynch get 5th spot in the rotation instead of Marsh
-
Never been so uninterested in a Sox season opener than I am right now.
-
After scoring 2 runs in first two games Royals had an outburst scoring 11 runs with 5 HRs.
Witt Jr had a big night.
Singer was solid, looked like an ace.
-
Two blown saves already, yikessss.
Instead of 3-3 Royals are 2-4.
Ragans was electric, sorry to see him not getting W.
-
While it is early, Royals starting pitching is looking solid.
Bullpen is okay but back end needs to shore up a bit.
Hitting is work in progress.
Overall, much better than last year.
-
-
It is early but Royals are becoming entertaining, on a 7 game winning streak.
-
Will Smith has been a disappointment so far, cannot get outs.
-
@AsadZ At least he hasn’t slapped anyone…
-
Royals are half a game behind first place Indians.
Are they legit or an aberration?
I think starting pitching is solid but hitting is mediocre, need much better production from outfielders.
Bullpen is so so, can definitely use an upgrade.
I am enjoying the ride tho, hope they can continue on the winning path.
-
Royals are back to doing Royals types of things.
Bullpen is a mess.
Lower batting order cannot find a hit.
-
Royals came back from 8-0. Still down 9-7, top of 7. My kid from Lawrence and gson are there, ksu pm.. Ksu lost their bb game. Gson got a ball from Lowry, our pitcher who gave up 7 runs in the 1st inning! it’s lynch not Lowry.
-
The boys are playing some ball!
-
@AsadZ Royals doing some 1985/2015 Royals-type comeback things!
-
Another comeback W today!
-
I like it.
I think they need to strengthen bullpen and add another outfielder/bat to catch up Cleveland.
-
Royals got bombed big time by Bronx bombers at the K

ya the Royals been playing well this Season, now I’m not here to start anything as most know I’m a NY life time fan, not here tryin to rile up anyone, giving credit where credit is due KC doing well - - Just Ny having a good year also -so far , in a dofg fight with Baltimore. got to admit my goodness Stanton and Judge have had some moon shots in this series. -436 ft - 445 ft and 449 ft those are some blasts
-
Royals starting pitching has been grounded after a solid start, June has not been kind.
They have played high caliber teams in past few weeks but still just sayin.
You have to compete with the best to play baseball in October.
-
Royals hitting is getting into “awful” category.
They cannot hit and score Runs…
-
@AsadZ Need to regain their mojo. Hope it wasn’t just lucky timing on the run production earlier in the season.
-
I hope so
The season is long but I hope they don’t get into a massive gap to catch up with Guardians who are smoking hot and playing really well.
-
@AsadZ I would be surprised if they caught Cleveland. Wild card I hope.
-
It was nice to win series 3-1, starting pitching was very solid in the series.
I am extremely impressed with Guardians scouting, farm and development system, year in and year out they are in contention without signing expensive FAs.
-
Royals have forgotten how to hit, very frustrating to see them lose games when hitters can’t score runs wasting solid effort provided by starting pitchers.
-
Royals traded for Harvey from Nationals for bullpen depth giving #2 prospect Caden Wallace and #39 draft pick.
What do you think about this trade?
Also, whatever happened to Jordan Lyles?
-
@AsadZ sounds like prior to the Nats he was constantly injured. From The Athletic:
Harvey’s so accustomed to being associated with injuries that he routinely takes digs at himself and his unfortunately brittle history. There was Tommy John surgery in 2016; a fluke shoulder injury in 2018 when he tried to get out of the way of a foul ball in Bowie’s dugout; and oblique, lat and triceps issues in 2021.
He has never made excuses about the injuries, but the reality is he couldn’t stay healthy as an Oriole. Even when he felt good, there was always that feeling of “what’s next?”
Also seems to have good stuff and a good attitude.
-
Just 10 years ago, the Royals were at the top of the MLB. It’s been a while now, but not so long that I can’t remember how sweet those 2014 and 2015 Royals were.
-
Entering into final month, can Royals keep pace and get into playoffs. They have a tough schedule ahead of them.
While Erceg has been lights out and an excellent addition at deadline, bullpen is still a mess.
Singer seems to be regressing.
I’d sit Garcia and play newly acquired Dejong over him.
-
@AsadZ I’m not really sure if Dejong can cut the mustard
-
KC now tied for 1st. Best record in AL since the All Star break.
-
Kickin rear!
-
The boys are playing some ball!
-
Witt, Pasquantonio and Perez have been rolling, more than 90 RBIs for all of them, I think it is a record.
If bullpen can hold I like KC Royals chances to win the division, I could have never imagined this earlier.
Kudos to Piccolo and Quatraro,
